Restaurant with view of Eiffel Tower I appreciate all the debate on this thread! I think I will suggest a different spot and then a toast with a view. It's really a shame to pay a premium for a view and choke down a bad meal. I'm curious why the two can't be combined! |

Restaurant with view of Eiffel Tower We are looking for a restaurant open on Sunday in late May for the celebration of a 60th and 70th birthday. I have looked at Les Ombres and Cafe de l'Homme. Can you suggest something else or give me an idea as to whether these are good choices? Thank you for your help. |

We will be staying a week in Monmartre in mid-May and would like restaurant recommendations near by. Our flat will be near Abbesse. We tend to like moderately priced restaurants (35 euros per person but will go higher) with interesting, authentic food. All ethnicities are wecome. Food takes priority over atmosphere. Thank you for your help. |

Paris Restaurant for 21st Birthday No recommendations but you brought back a sense memory of turning 21 in Paris. I was doing a studies abroad program in Italy and traveled to Paris by train. On my birthday, I had a drink at the Ritz (horrified when realized how much it cost!), Algerian food somewhere near the Seine on the left bank, and watched Rudolph Nureyev dance Swan Lake in the courtyard of the Louvre. Have a memorable birthday! |

I agree. I always observe and follow suit. The market at Bastille is my favorite....very large and lively. Even if you bone up on your language you'll be out of your league so smile and count on sign language and charm. Some vendors are harried and impatient with tourists, others are very kind. I'm sure this is true of your market in NY. |

By the way, for those of you who live in the US and subscribe to Comcast, the "on demand" menu carries Anthony Bourdain's No Reservations. They recently posted his show on Brittany which highlights Roellinger's restaurant and culinary point of view. Of course, the oyster beds in Belon are featured as well as crepes and plateau de fruits de mer. My appetite is primed! |

Yes, Normandy will definately be on the list of places to visit. My husband grew up in villiers-en-desoeuvres a small village 120km west of Paris, so we will meander west to Brittany. |

We ate there years ago when it had just openned (perhaps in 2000....?) The smell or roasting meats pulled us off the street. We made a reservation and had the most memorabe meal of our lives in the patio. Everything was perfect. We later learned that it had closed, much to our sorrow. |

And one more thing, Parigi, what happened to Les Maisons de Bricourt, Roellinger's place? The website is alive and well with not mention of the restaurant closing. |

Thank you, Parigi! This is exactly the kind of tip I was looking for! I'm dreaming of Cancale as I type! We just returned from Appalacacola which is the oyster capital of the southeastern US. These are fat and sweet oysters that are unlike the salty oysters I've had in western Brittany. Can't beat the price though - $5.99 for a dozen at an atmospheric shack on the marsh! |

We are planning a trip in late May to Brittany and will most likely base outselves in Dinan. We plan to take day trips in the general area, including up to the Normandy beaches at some point. Any suggestions for food experiences? We are all passionate about food and wine and we also like to get off the beaten path. One of my best memories from years ago was traveling near Mont St. Michel and stumbling upon tents set up on the side of the road for calvodos tasting. We were able to taste the newer to older calvados. Fabulous! I am especially interested in coastal towns such as St. Malo. Also, language will not be a barrier. Thanks for your help. |
