This summer in Asheville

The Biltmore has some excellent dining.

The Dining Room at the Inn is probably one of the best restaurants in Asheville. I've been lucky enough to eat there several times and it has always been a perfect experience ~ wonderful ambiance, delicious food and perfect service. It is very expensive.

The Bistro has always been very good as well. They've gotten a new chef in the past month or so and I haven't been since then. However, he is Bill Klein, formerly of Fig in Biltmore Village so I would expect it to be great.

Cedric's is nice, but with a pub atmosphere. They have live music and a nice patio.

The Deer Park is now open for Brunch on Saturday and Sunday. We had a terrific time there a few weeks ago. Simple, but very good brunch and live music in the courtyard. I loved the Bloody Mary bar. All 10 of us agreed that we wanted to make this a monthly excursion.

I really miss the Arbor Terrace patio that was just below the Bistro. It was outdoor dining with live music. Perfect place to sip bubbly on a summer afternoon. They decided not to reopen this year.

Reservations are strongly suggested at any of the above (we saw several people being turned away from Brunch). You must either have an entry ticket to the Biltmore Estate or be a passholder in order to dine at any of their restaurants. Passholders may take dinner guests onto the Estate after 5:30 pm. And.....for Brunch at Deer Park, passholders may bring guests as well (suggest any passholder verify this information at the time you make a reservation).

Enjoy your visit ~ these mountains are wonderful.

But, haven't tried it and don't know if he's still there - the move was almost a year ago.

Market Place Asheville

Totally agree, and the Italian Night is great fun. Excellent Italian food ~ just love the wild mushroom lasagne ~ 1/2 price wine by the glass ~ live music. There was one in February and one in April; if we're lucky, there might be one over the summer.

Asheville Public

Our dining group tried Asheville Public this past Wednesday night. There were 15 of us and we sampled almost everything on the menu. Favorites were the various house sausages ~ they came on a bun, a side condiment and chips. Mine was the jambalaya, somewhat spicy with a side of delicious red sauerkraut (I ordered, as did most of us, without the bun). The Ruben was also a hit ~ they cure the corned beef in house. Kale salad was excellent as was the watercress salad (it was a special that night).

My favorite was the cheese plate appetizer ~ it is probably the best I have had in WNC. Five different cheeses from all over the world ~ Gloucester Cheddar Chive, Triple Creme Creameaux, Parmesan from Argentina, a creamy goat cheese and the most amazing, heavily veined Buttermilk Blue from Wisconsin. It came with toasts (a few more would have been good), nuts and some dried apricots. Curate was my favorite for cheese, but now......I'm dreaming about that blue.

Kudos to our server Katie. She deftly handled our large party, keeping us well supplied with drinks and had absolutely no problem with separate checks. As an added bonus ~ Wednesday nights are 1/2 price bottles of wine. Everybody had a great time and are looking forward to a return visit.

Stoney Knob might be good for your party of 7. It's just south of Weaverville.

Food Recommendations in and Around Fletcher/Brevard, NC

Like you, I had quit going to Sq Root about a year or so ago. About 3 months ago we needed a quick dinner and are not a fan of Dugan's so we ended up at Sq Root. Have been back several times and it's all been good - especially on Monday or Tuesday nights with half price wine.

Food Recommendations in and Around Fletcher/Brevard, NC

Give Square Root a try. I had an excellent burger there Saturday night and it was medium rare, as ordered. They're in the alley between Main & Jordan. A few tables outside. Nice chocolate shop there too.

Asheville, NC: Place for Casual Reception/Private Party?

Bouchon has a private room that should work for 20.

Harvest Moon Grille - Farm to Table done right (Charlotte, NC)

Sounds great - where are you?

Well this is exciting- Asheville

I've done the Hendersonville Crawl several times ~ great fun. You can usually try 4 or 5 different places in an evening. Take cash, much easier and quicker than credit cards. Also, I hope the restaurants will include half glasses of wine - impossible to do a full glass at each stop!

Never Blue Asheville

Sixteen of us went last night and it was a hit. Some menu highlights ~ Witch's Cauldron soup of the day was Mushroom, wow! ~ Ch'Dings, duck wings (I think they are really duck legs) in a hoisin sauce ~ Forest Pasta, wild mushrooms and penne ~ Cuban sandwich, a riff on a typical cuban, but with pork belly ~ Spinach Salad was a winner ~ many more, but I can't remember them all. Wine is very reasonably priced as is the food.

Many thanks to our server Sara who managed to keep us well supplied with drinks, food and separate checks!

Lots of gluten free, many vegetarian (not vegan) dishes.

Consensus ~ Never Blue is now one of our regular Wednesday choices.

Note ~ I think the menu on the website for Never Blue on Broadway is missing one page. It had many more items than shown on website.

Thanksgiving Dinning Out In Asheville

NeverBlue in Hendersonville is a good choice and the price is great. I guarantee it will not be your typical Thanksgiving dinner, but you will enjoy.

Just tried the NeverBlue on Broadway last nite. Excellent, but will detail in a separate post.

Asheville dinner....not too loud

Fig in Biltmore Village might be a good choice. It's very small and hasn't been noisy on past visits. http://www.figbistro.com/

If you're going to visit the Biltmore Estate, consider the Dining Room at the Inn for dinner. It's very, very good, not at all noisy, but very, very expensive. If you're a passholder, you may make a reservation for your party after 5 pm and they will not need tickets to the estate.

Romantic or just plain fun dinner in Asheville?

Definitely lots of rum at Storm, but many other very interesting cocktails. I'm not into sweet, so I stick with the East India Cocktail or the Perfect Storm Mojito.

Romantic or just plain fun dinner in Asheville?

Curate is definitely comparable to Jose Andres's Jaleo in Vegas (was there in March). One of the Curate owners worked w/ Jaleo for their Vegas opening.

At Feast event, Curate owner advised they are working on some additions to the menu. The dish at Feast was a sous vide short rib (delicious, but very, very rich) and might make it onto their menu.

Romantic or just plain fun dinner in Asheville?

Consider Storm or Curate. Both open Sunday, both downtown.

West First Hendersonville,NC

Remembered reading something about West 1st in Carolina Epicurean a while back. Could this be why the eggplant parm is different? Here's the blurb ~

'Formerly of West First, Kenny Martinez, will become our Head Chef beginning Tuesday, June 21st! We are excited that he will bring his experience and diverse talents to the Blue Note. Look for a new menu and some of his personal specialties! The Blue Note is going forward and we strive to be the best destination dining in Hendersonville. “It’s where you want to be.”

Looks like the chef moved across the street. Haven't been to the Blue Note for the last six months, so I have no idea on quality of

Upstate Foodie Fest ~ Greenville SC and environs

Starts Friday Aug 12 and ends Sunday Aug 21. Eleven restaurants participating; all have $30 prix fixe menus.

I'm familar with most of the restaurants, but have never heard of Plaid Pelican and it's not mentioned on this board. Has anybody eaten there?

Thanks, Nancy

Asheville is absolutely amazing in the quality and variety of restaurant talent ~ if you're lucky enough to live in/near Asheville, you're lucky enough.

Where is this restaurant?

Curate - Asheville

Ate at Jaleo in Vegas last month ~ totally agree with your assessment. Turns out that Felix from Curate helped with the opening of the Jaleo / Vegas.

Fine Dining in Asheville, NC?

If you are visiting the Biltmore Estate, I'd seriously consider the Dining Room at the Inn on the Biltmore Estate. Excellent food, perfect service, very expensive.

Or....if you're visiting the Estate, consider Afternoon Tea in the Library at the Inn. Beautiful views, bubby (slightly extra) and yummy pastries. My mother (same age bracket) absolutely loved doing this every time she visited.

You do need to purchase tickets to the estate, be a guest at the inn or be a passholder (passholders can take guests to the restaurants after 5pm, so that wouldn't work for tea).

If noise level is a factor in the restaurant, let us know your choices and we can let you know how noisy it is. Also mobility - Corner Kitchen has several steps up to the front porch.

Admiral is fantastic, but I don't think it's what you're looking for on this visit.

Also consider ~ Market Place, Cucina 24, Table, Fig, or Rezaz.
