Jersey City suggestions

If you feel like treating yourself to a great meal (and want something other than Italian or Schechuan) try The Light Horse Tavern. It is is a short walk from the Hyatt. If you get a hankering for Mexican try Taqueria Downtown -- the best tacos!

Pizza in Hamilton (Mercer County) I haven't tried

I suggest trying Brothers' Pizza on Rte 33 and Massismo's on Liberty Street. Both make great pizza and have some other great items on their menus.. Brothers makes a tomato pie, as well. Not sure if Massimo's does, but their Nonna's pie is awesome.

Dining in Cape May

Definitely make it a point to dine at The Blue Pig. It's a farm to table restaurant in Congress Hall -- we had an amazing meal when we were there back in June. And if the weather is nice, I recommend having diner on the patio.

And, 410 Bank Street was great too!

Italian Cheesecake (aka Ricotta Pie)

I second that! Penza Pies are wonderful in general, but their ricotta pies are delicious. They are about an hour south of Trenton and most definitely worth the drive!

Amazing Peruvian in Lambertville

Thanks to the reviews above, I went to El Tule for the first time last night -- we had an excellent meal and cannot wait to return!

From the peruvian menu, we had the ceviche lemono and a version of the causa de pollo which substituted octopus for the chicken (it was a special of the night). Both were delicious. The causa had this very tasty olive sauce. From the mexican menu, we had the guacamole (very good!) and carne asada tacos and spicy chicken tacos, which were on homemade soft corn tortillas and a side of black beans and rice.

The owners and the staff were very friendly, helpful, gracious and more than willing to make a recommendation from the menu. Everything was just delicious and full of flavor. We will definitely be frequenting El Tule. Can't wait for the spring and summer, as they have a patio in the back and we can enjoy our meals outside.

Tortuga in Hamilton, NJ

When i visited the Hamilton location the first time, we asked the owner if they related to the Tortuga's in Princeton, since the menu is quite similar. He said that they where years ago and then he split off and opened a Tortuga's location in Trenton. They moved the Trenton location to the new spot in Hamilton, which is also a BYOB.

I've been the Hamilton location twice already . I very much enjoyed my meals, as did everyone i dined with. The first time I had the Pollo Verde (which had a very fresh tasting tomatillo sauce) and the second time I had the Bistek Mexicana (cooked with onions, peppers and had a nice kick to it :-) ). And thier tostones are delicious.

I definitely recommend giving it a try. My frinds and I will definitely be visiting Tortuga's frequently!

Santino’s Bar One

I have only been for drinks on Friday night once -- the crowd could best described as Real Housewives of NJ and Jersey Shore had a love child. Friend of mine have been for a few meals, plus happy hour -- they found crab dishes most enjoyable and everything else was described as good - quite good, however, nothing was memorable.

I will say, I like that they changed the restaurant around. The bar is now when you walk in and seperated from the dining area. At the very least, try the happy hour to see if it is worth giving dinner a try.

New restaurant coming to Freehold Raceway Mall

I completely believe in going local. Local over a Chain any day. I was just responding to the question of whether or not anyone has ever tried Brio and gave my opinion of it as a italian chain.

New restaurant coming to Freehold Raceway Mall

I've eaten at Brio several times and have enjoyed my meals. I had gone in with very low expectations since it is a chain (and i was at a location inthe midwest -- for an italian jersey girl, eating itlain chain food in the midwest seemed like a risk!), but was pleasantly surprised. There is a Brio in Cherry Hill and one in Marlton. Of all the italian chains out there, Brio is definitely one of the better ones (Olive Garden being the ABSOLUTE bottom of the barrel). They have a nice fra diavolo sauce and the sweet potato and chicken risotto is a favorite among my friends.

Recommendations for BYO in Mercer County for 30, please.

La Piazza in Allentown is a BYO with a private room. The food is delicious and portions are large. I have been there for several successful parties.

Breakfast in NJ I-95 on Our Way to Sesame Place

Mastoris Diner is a short ride (about 10 minutes) off of the NJ Turnpike. I would take exit 7A rather than Exit 7. It is a little less screwy of a route, especially if you are not familiar with the area.

All of those counties should absolutely remain on the NJ forum board.

Is a proper Guinness available in the wider Princeton area?

You can definitely get a proper Guiness at Dublin Square on Rte 130 North in Bordentown.

And for the cider fans out there, they have Magner's on tap.

There is House of Cupcakes in Princeton on Witherspoon St. I reccommend the Fudge Truffle cupcake!!! (and chocolate cupcakes are normally not my first cupcake of choice). Here is there website:

Looks like they are going to be on Cupcake Wars.

Good Chinese around Bordentown?

If you want some Portuguese/Spanish fare and don't want to up to Newark, definitely give Malaga on Lalor Street in Trenton a try.

Ploy Siam in Robbinsville

Made my 3rd trip to Ploy Siam the other day. I had a nice experience the first 2 times. However, after this 3rd visit I will NOT be going back. The place was maybe a 1/4 full at 7:30. I ordered a jasmine tea and was brought a cup of hot water with a regular Lipton tea bag. We should have left at this point. We ordered 4 dishes to share. Thai Spring Rolls came out cold. Our soup was hot and nicely spiced, however she didn't bring out bowls to split the soup between the two of us, so we had to share the bowl. Our seafood penang curry was very mild even though we ordered it to be a 4 out of 5 for spicyness. And it was barely room temperature. Out Dancing Duck dish was cooked nicely, but again, barely room temperature and mild when we ordered spicy. Even the rice was cold!

With service like this, I can't see them being open much longer.

Good Chinese around Bordentown?

I second that -- I LOVE Jade Island. Don't let the 1980s "typical chinese restaurant" decor fool you -- their food is so tasty! I love their wonton soup, shrimp stuffed eggplant, their vermicelli dishes and chicken and peppers. They have really great and very fresh sushi -- all the rolls are good and BIG! Their homemade mustard is awesome and a real sinus clear :-) LOL!!! Plus, they have a bar.

Zylo at W Hotel was a disappointment

Another great place for the view is The Chart House that is up the road in Weehawkin. It's about 10 minutes north of Zylo. They have a spacious bar and the view is awesome.

Zylo at W Hotel was a disappointment

I would say give it another try -- I went there last week for the first time and throughly enjoyed my meal.

Our original intent was to go for happy hour, but when we arrived at 6-ish, there wasn't a seat to be had at what I think is a very small bar (15 seater, maybe). They easily accommodated us with a table for 2.

We did choose 3 meats (mortadella, salame con porcini and lombo -- lombo was the best!) and choose 3 cheeses (robiola, gorgonzola and parmigiano) from the salumi menu. Then we ordered the smaller size bowls of the gnocchi and the mushroom risotto to share. Both pasta dishes were great, but the risotto was superior (especially if your a mushroom lover! lots of bold mushroom flavor!)

So if you are game, definitely try again and order the lombo and the risotto :-).

Holiday dinner/lunch for group in central NJ- Hamilton,Bordentown, Trenton area....Help!

If you are looking to stay in Bordentown, you should try Toscano's. They have a bar. I remember them having a great bolognese sauce. Another great place for a big party of people is Spigola (love their eggplant rolletini appetizer with a glass on montepuliciano!!!)

All three are BYOB. Word to the wise if you go on a Friday or Saturday night, send someone from your party about 20-30 minutes early to put your name on the list for a table.

Anyone know where I can get burrata cheese in New Jersey?

You may want to try Vitella & Sons at the Trenton Farmers Market . It isn't listed on their website but it doesn't hurt to call and ask. I'm a big fan of Vitella's.

http://www.cannuli.us.fm/vitellaandso...

There is another cheese shop in the Trenton Farmer's Market. They may have it too.

Avalon - Stone Harbor advice?

I highly recommend The Diving Horse in Avalon. It was one of the BEST meals that I've had in while. Everything was very fresh and local. I had the steamed mussels in a potato leek broth, heirloom tomato salad, barnegat scallops and the fruit crisp. All dishes were suggested by our waiter and they did not disappoint. Plus, it is a BYOB. Here is the website:

East Windsor, NJ: Another new Thai place opening

I had my second vist to Tom Yum Goong last week. The first visit was good -- the seafood salad and crazy noodles were nice. On the second visit, we had a Duck Panang Curry and Pad Thai -- we were very disappointed with both. Although we asked for or curry to be spicy it was too mild, watery and heavy on the coconut. In fact, another couple in the restaurant complained to the waiter that their dish wasn't spicy enough either. The Pad Thai was quite flavorless and boring. Elements Asia makes much better Pad Thai.

I am looking forward to trying the new thai restaurant, Ploy Siam, in Robbinsville (Foxmoor Shopping Center). I think they open at the end of the month.

I've you ever road trip to New York State and have a hankering for Thai, check out Kwan Thai Restaurant in Pearl River, NY (about 90 minutes north of Mercer County). Their food rocks and they curries definitely pack a punch. Here is their website: http://www.kwanthai.com/

DeLorenzo's pizza

Per an article in NJ Monthly, "Trenton tomato pies are put together backwards. Cheese and toppings go on first. Only then comes the tomato sauce—seasoned, crushed plum tomatoes...".

Here is a link to the article. Happy reading!

http://njmonthly.com/articles/restaur...

Also, Hamilton Ave is DeLorenzo's Pizza, versus DeLorenzo's Tomato Pies on Hudson Street and the one on Rte 33 in Robbinsville. Although the families are related, they both have thin crusts, the end products are different.

Atlantic City

I reccommend Fornelletto at The Borgata. Food is execellent. They have something called "Wine Down Wednesdays" -- for customers who sit at the bar they offer specials on small plates and featured wines.

Conte's pizza in Princeton...any current reviews?

Conte's is good, plus they have bar service which is convenient. But I agree with the other comments DeLorenzo's and Nomad blows Conte's out of the water.

I also enjoy the Tomato Pies at Antimo and Gennaro's Brothers Pizzeria on Rte 33 in Hamilton (next to a tire place and an acupuncture place). I recommend giving them a try. But make sure you as for the tomato pie, not pizza (two different things). But their pizza is great too :-)

Great restaurant for small wedding in Princeton area?

Sorry for the over use of "under whelmed". I guess I've been watching too much Michael Kors on Project Runway :-)

I've always heard people rave about how great their meals were. Then I actually got a meal myself I found them under seasoned and lacking flavor. But perhaps I will give them a try again, as they may have a new chef since the last time I was there.

Great restaurant for small wedding in Princeton area?

I suggest trying Mediterra on Palmer Square in Princeton. Also, from a wedding phoyography perspective Palmer Square, Princeton University, the Princeton Battlefield and the town of Princeton itself offers a more interesting landscape for photography than Forrestal Village (which over the years has been a poorly orgnized collection of retail/outlet stores; assuming you don't want as maidenform outlet in the background of your photos) .

Over the past ten yeas anytime I've dined at Tre Piani (whether for leisure or business) I have been under whelmed.

Another town worth exploring is Lambertville, NJ / New Hope, Pa (about 20-25 minutes west of Princeton) There are some lovely restaurants (Anton's at the Swan, Hamilton Grill, The Landing, The Logan Inn, to name a few) thatt you an your fiancee should check out.

Fish Tacos, Middlesex County

If you don't mind the travel, drive up to Jersey City to Taqueria Downtown (236 Grove Street). The BEST fish tacos -- on par with what have sampled in Southern California.

The carnitas tacos are another favorite.
