I want to try Collards

Soulfood Style

Fill the sink with water, you can add a little dish soap or even bleach for extra cleaning, rip or cut the leaves off the stalk, roll the leaves and slice the roll in sections. Then put the greens in a pot 1/4 filled with water and throw in a ham hock or smoked neck bones. Lastly add Emerils essence seasoning, garlic salt, red pepper flakes, and pepper, bring it to a high boil then turn your stove on low and slow cook for a couple hrs. Put it on a plate with some buttered honey cornbread and it is DELICIOUS!

You can make Vegetarian greens (with flavor) but but instead of adding smoked meat
add a couple of tblsps of vegetable oil
add oregano
add a few chopped onions
add extra seasoning salt

What to do with a Cuisinart Food Processor ?

Ok, I've gotten beyond the "lets see what it can do with this practice food" stage, learned some things and actually made some pretty good dishes. I chopped my tomatoes and onions without making a puree, sliced my carrots and herbs ( too lazy to change the disk), shredded zucchini for zucchini cornbread and mixed it with the doughblade. I can't wait to slice peaches for peach cobbler, make hummus although I don't like it but I know someone that does, and create all sorts of condiments. Thanks for all the suggestions that have been posted so far.

What are your fav places to buy kitchen goods?

I recently visited Home Goods and could not believe it. I never knew about it and didn't know it's a subsidiary of TJMaxx. See, I didn't have it all covered!

What are your fav places to buy kitchen goods?

My fav places that have the best clearance sections are Macy's, Khol's, Williams and Sonoma, Wal-Mart (when they had the Kitchen aid stuff), Big Lots (found some Pottery barn and Crate and Barrel stuff in there), Dillards. Other fav's are Costo, BJ's, TJ maxx, Ross, Marshalls.

le creuset or heavy stainless?

I have had my set of Le Creuset pots for over 10 yrs. and use it for everyday cooking. They still look great and perform well. Its the only "set" of pots I have, along with a few other cast iron and hand me down pots from my mom and aunts.

What to do with a Cuisinart Food Processor ?

Thanks for the reference to the cookbook. Here is the link to my other post yayadave http://www.chowhound.com/topics/408307 sans the closed parentheses to make it easier for ya. Thanks for the link to the video as well. I saw the link before but thought it may be outdated like the Video that I received. Yes I do have the detachable stem and the disks that came with the machine. The only thing that I don't have is the instructional DVD but I wonder if its the same as this video link above. Perhaps someone can tell me :)

What to do with a Cuisinart Food Processor ?

I'm sure something along the lines of this question has already been posted, but I find it too time consuming to plough through the multitude of posts with the word "Cuisinart". I recently purchased a Cuisinart Custom Pro 14 chrome from Khol's on an open box buy in the clearance area for $96. I do not have the DVD (before you advise me on how to get the DVD pls read the message that I posted on this thread http://www.chowhound.com/topics/408307). I also have the Cuisinart Mini-prep plus that I got from Costco for $24 and want to make the most of that as well. I can really use advise, tricks, tips, and ideas for either one of the machines. I tried to CHOP onions, and made a nice onion puree. I know now that I can do a puree, can do pastry, chop nuts and herbs. I would like to CHOP my vegetables. I remember my aunt buying one of these way back in '79 and she crushed some oreo's in it for cookies and cream ice cream. I have not seen her use it since. But there must be something more to it than making sauces, purees, and cookies and cream ice cream. I would like to do fries and some more CHOPPING. I thought my CHOPPING days with a knife was over. Help me please!

Cuisinart Food Processor Problem!

I just bought my Cuisinart Pro Custom 14 from Khol's, open box buy, for $96. Myself and the sales lady thought all the parts were there until I got home and found that the DVD and the detachable stem was missing. I called Cuisinart cu service at around 10 or 11 o'clock at night est. time, someone answered and they promptly sent me a detachable stem and VHS (I clearly stated DVD, gave him the exact model ,serial , all the info he needed). Since then I have been calling my a... off trying to get through to someone to send me that DVD. I know they have it to send. And now they say they are open from 8:30 am to 8:30 pm . What the hell? I need that DVD. I had a fit to have this thing, got it at a hell of a deal and now need to know what the hell I can do with it, other than puree, pastry, and sliced cucumbers.
