best ice cream cake in la?
I'm really not a fan of the Carvel ice cream cakes that you can get at some grocery stores. Mouthful of air. Are there Carvel stores that have something different/better?
Braising Book
I have searched and read and read and searched. There appears to be a lot of love on this board for Molly Stevens' All About Braising, but I see recipes and other mentions from Daniel Boulud's Braise, too. If I'm going to ask for just one of them from Santa, which one? Anyone have both?
Thanks!
Wally George mexican plate? (Orange County)
"...which is long gone."
As is Mr. George.
This article doesn't mention the combo plate, but it looks like it has a picture of it:

Dodger Dogs All You Can Eat
Dodger Dogs are manufactured by Farmer John, a longtime sponsor of the Dodgers. Just google "Farmer John Dodger Dogs" and you'll find them. There are no particular toppings. Toppings available at the stadium are basic: mustard, ketchup, onions, relish. There might be spicy mustard, too. I forget. Grilled is best, definitely.
best pizza in the palisades?
I second Pinnochio's. Very good pizza. Lots of other good things, too.
Josie Tonight
If they ever take that mushroom sandwich appetizer off the menu, I may have to chain myself to the door in protest.
Whole roasted turkey to-go for Thanksgiving?
I've done Ralphs and I've done Gelson's. Gelson's is better and you can pick and choose components, you don't have to order the pre-set meal.
Be aware that even though these turkeys are pre-cooked, they will not be warm when you pick them up. They will need oven time and basting.
Great Restaurant That Caters - Westside/Pac Pal
Ok, then I agree with Kathryn that you are not that limited to the area. Almost any westside-ish or even further east restaurant or caterer will come there for the job, so consider other slightly more distant places. There have been a couple of catering threads on here recently as well as a "where can a party of 60 eat" thread. Those might provide some assistance.
Maybe the Il Fornaio in Santa Monica? The food isn't the oh-my-god greatest, but it is many steps above Jacopo's and probably won't break the bank.
Great Restaurant That Caters - Westside/Pac Pal
Well, not Kay & Dave's or Jacopo's. These are local quickie places with very mediocre food. If you were feeding a little league team, I'd say Jacopo's would be fine, but not for a 40th birthday party.
I'm confused about whether you're looking for a restaurant to bring food to your location or whether you want to find a restaurant with a big room. Clarify?
Thanksgiving...
Agreed. I have used them more than once for holiday meals and have never been disappointed. I do prefer to pick and choose items rather than get the pre-packaged meal, but I'm sure you can't go wrong either way. Just be aware that the stuff will be cold when you pick it up and you will have to heat it.
grocery store strategy [moved from L.A. board]
Try the TJs at Sepulveda & Palms when you must have something from there. It has the best parking of all of the Westside-ish locations.
