good that someone revived this old thread. if anyone is tired of paying ten bucks per fresh juice drink, wants to juice at home and wants a top shelf home juicer i would highly recommend the green power juicer extruder. after going thru a slew of juicers we have been very happy with this one for many years. it has a powerful motor that extrudes the juice thru a screw process. works like a charm. there is some cleanup, but not too bad. if you really compare juicers you will find this one was the highest rated. |

Randazzo Sheepshead Bay Amazing Sauce we just went a couple weeks ago. the sauce is as good as ever. we had some oysters and clams, scungilli mild sauce and softshell crab sandwich. yes the sauce can be erratic over the past, but never bad or anything like that. it was on for our recent visit that is for sure. prices have really climbed up and up, which is a bummer. but we always enjoy ourselves here. service is always nice and i appreciate the same staff over the years. |

San Diego foodie moving to Bowling Green, Ohio hey there - i would definately rec tony packos over those if its your first visit. that is not only toledo, but an ohio institution. and hungarian is something you never had out west thats for certain, so try it. ok as im hungarian i am biased, but i still say go there first lol! speaking of touristy or common places, do not totally give up on loma linda. although its totally mediocre and always has been, you are honor bound to go or be dragged there at least once. do it at least just so you can relate with the locals. we have a place near me in the west village called bennys burritos, its awful in the same mediocre way, but i still go on occasion, even with much better nearby. you'll come to understand - ha! |

cleveland: market garden brewery you are quite welcome. the brewmaster is the guy who did the dogfishhead 60min ipas and the rest of their stuff until he moved back home to cleveland to open his own place. so he has quite a cult brewmaster pedigree. and don't forget you have the belgian bier markt, abc tavern and of course great lakes brewing all right across the street. and more. the wsm area has turned into quite a monster craft brew neighborhood! |

San Diego foodie moving to Bowling Green, Ohio jenbak! look at you. niccce bringing it all up to date - bravo! all i will add is myles is in no way chicago style pizza. it stands out, or stood out, because of the two cheeses mix and how it was cooked. im sorry to hear if its gone downhill, but not surprised. never would have happened when mr. myles was alive that is for sure. one more thing is just that sam b's is what it is because even tho its moved around its a landmark bg restaurant, which you would know, but the op may not. great to hear about all this chowy tastiness in good old beegee and nw ohio. sounds much improved, i will look forward to my next stop thru town sometime. |

good news is of all the places we went i didnt notice anywhere that would be an issue at all for a solo dinner, male or female. to add to my post below i might rec kybele cafe for you in sultanahmet for a light lunch and peranostra directly across from tunel in beyogulu for a light evening meal. for drink about anywhere seemed fine as well. of the two main pub strips near taksim i might rec: cezayir sk > nevizade sk for a solo woman. just because its more atmospheric and less standard/hectic. let me know if you have more questions - have fun and no worries its an easy place to visit and enjoy, just make sure when you go to the aya sofia & topkapi you get on line in the morning an hour before they open, trust me on that tip if no other lol! |

Double decker sandwiches in Cinncinati? a bit off topic, but corned beef was a distinctly cleveland specialty back in the day. nyc had the pastrami and cle had the corned beef, along with polish boys, cevaps and pierogi. there used to be many places downtown, but only a few remain. i always loved the rathskeller. most would say today slymans is best. of course none of these things are unique, as the local cinci specialties are, with the exception of stadium |

Best Iskender in Manhattan? Also, anywhere make Turkish Delight in-house? well since no one has replied i will suggest istanbul grill. they have it. its just ok, nothing earth shaking, but will fill a craving. lower your expectations, its not as good as in istanbul. best thing there is the chorba lentil soup. i dont know what to tell you about the lokum. i have some i bought fresh in the fridge from a trip to istanbul, buzz my apt and i will bring a bit down for you lol! |

brunswick - pam pam & tipsy's [Georgia] we stopped in brunswick and were glad we did because pam pam bakery has the best and the best variety of cupcakes of all the so-called urban cupcake shops rolled into one. its that good. there is also a nice tavern called tipsys where i had a great citrus salad with salmon. perfectly cooked fish. they also have some nice craft beer on draft. make sure you enjoy charming brunswick before dashing off to the golden isles. |

this small restaurant is actually just over the river in a new urbanist planned community in north augusta, sc. i had an excellent nicoise salad there for lunch. the ingredients were correct and top notch. the tuna was served in what is mostly an american style, which is to say seared rare. i was almost shocked at just how fresh the tuna was. the rest of the menu looked good as did items on other peoples plates. recommended! |

Onsen Tamago at Sakagura: how to make it!?!?! [moved from Manhattan] wow first of all for being an iranian jew you picked a rather under the radar (as well as under a building) local favorite. i am impressed. also your english is great, i am jealous! i went through a japanese home cooking and sushi making phase and have made this dish and was amazed that the egg can out right. i am far from a great cook so, i bet you can make it too! dashi is very very simple you just need the ingredients. i recall using bonito in mine. do not worry, if it is a problem getting them in your country you can easily get them here. i like the dish, but i like regular tamago better, so i only made it a couple times. good luck...no i wont even say that because you do not need luck you can do it. |

cleveland: market garden brewery market garden brewery pretty crowded and 'hopping' both indoors and on the outdoor patio this past friday at noon. we had a tap beer sampler and the brewmasters meat+cheese platter. this platter was fine for 3 people who were not hungry for real food to share while jibber jabbering. in fact its kind of what its for. the wsm cheese selection was great, but the house meats varied. the green-chili sausage was very good, its not spicy and the chilis really do add flavor. the kielbasa was mild and ok, the jerky was not very good. i was a bit disappointed with it because i always get jerky in chinatown and love the stuff and while it looked good, it just wasnt. the beers were all tasty. the refugee saison is a perfect rendition of this style. some like saison some dont, but i love it and this was a very good one. next was the smoked porter. i am also a porter style fan and this was a very good version. the smoked maltiness is strong, but at the right balance. another sample was forest city brown ale. an excellent rendition of this malty style. a 'real ale' britpub taste they would love over the pond. two others were the pearl street wheat and wahoo wit. both similar, pearl being more flavorful and wahoo having a nice dry finish. if forced to choose, not going to make me give up glbc holy moses, but good stuff. a final sample was the viking pale ale. challenging, with a sharp and dry hoppy bite. loved it prob the most of all, although the saison was up there too. mgb is a must stop after a westside market visit. i think i read they are going to make spirits soon, if they havent already, so keep an eye out for that too. |

Uniquely Cleveland/Akron dining for visiting NYC hound? for next time -- two things that are uniquely chowish to the suburban akron area are, as someone mentioned, barberton fried chicken, which is serbian in origin and amish food. maybe you can try to steer that new mil towards these when she doesnt wanted to stray far from home ;) i didnt really get the observation that the wsm seemed small since its bigger and more diverse than anything like it in nyc?? otherwise, good reviews - oh except i better not hear anymore about your steering our ethnic cle restauranteers to nyc on your visits or i will hunt you down lol! |

San Diego foodie moving to Bowling Green, Ohio wow interesting. i lived in bg for years. lived briefly in toledo and worked and commuted bg>toledo and bg>findlay too. in addition i have spent a decent amount of time in san diego. if you can handle the often ruthless winters you can do this -- ha! first, you will love the local pizza in bg. myles is the best, even since mr. myles passed away i have stopped by a few times in passing through and it remains good stuff. get a tomato pie and ask for them to put oregano in before they cook it up. solid! yeah try paglia's and pizanellos too if its still there. remarkable pizza even for a small college town. sam b's always has good sit down lunch options if nothing out of the ordinary and there is an old school diner right downtown you might get a kick out of. explore toledo. you have to start with tony packos hungarian and a mudhens game, although you should try to get to the original tony packos over the new one next to the ballpark. an eternal ohio classic. yes beirut is a toledo classic as well. speaking of that, whole the region between detroit to cleveland is the hub of america's middle eastern population, particularly dearborn -- so explore that kind of food. to drive that point home -- you can't miss the huge mosque in the cornfield between bg-toledo - ha again! lets see, what else? mancys is another old timer to try up there if you like old steakhouses. i am sorry to report rustys jazz club has closed, rusty was a character and it was very well known in jazz circles. so please do report back often -- i would be interested in what you find and we can help you along. more importantly, overall bg is a nice place and a great learning environment -- a real out of the way small college town among the farms --- with all the good and isolation that comes along with that. |

If you were entertaining first time Tourists to New York?? there is nothing wrong with LES HALLES or PO. they are what they always have been, middle of the road. if someone wants to go due to whatever connection to these populist chefs its fine. just do not order any beef dish at LH, its awful. |
