Strange Pairings that Taste Uncommonly Good

Mount Olive kosher dill pickles sliced up on White bread with mayo. Wash this down with a glass of ice cold Nestle's Quik chocolate milk. Got me thru junior high school! I still enjoy this as lunch occasionally.

Strange Pairings that Taste Uncommonly Good

After my father had a stroke, there were a couple of years there that he wouldn't eat ANY THING but banana sandwiches. White bread, mayo and sliced bananas, yummy. Another good one is White bread, mayo and pineapple slices. Or, WB, mayo and sliced tomatoes, S&P.

The best thing your school cafeteria served

My husband reminded me to add the homemade peanut butter cookies, yum! And the school lunchroom was the first place I encountered rice krispy treats, wow!

The best thing your school cafeteria served

1960's-'70's Southeast Ga, elementary school at recess (any one remember recess?) they sold homemade popsicles, they were either orange or grape juice (the real thing) frozen in small paper dixie cups with sticks in them. Everyone loved the sloppy joes; I've tried again and again to replicate with no luck. Other recurring favorite foods in this thread, our sweet rolls and yeast rolls were to die for.
Absolutely HATED the homemade pizzas though-- thick, limp crust, CHEDDAR CHEESE (didn't melt properly) and hamburger meat. [shudder!]
Junior high school, I didn't eat lunch at all. Only options were the school food or brown bag, we attended a very remote rural school. I was told someone found a pantyhose tag in the Shepard's pie, I couldn't force myself to even go into the lunchroom there!
High school, one of my favs was some kind of stew beef and gravy over rice. I don't know how they got the meat soooo tender, but it was always very good.
I was considered weird, I liked the stewed prunes and the limp salad (iceburg lettuce and tomatoes with mayonnaise dressing)
