Anywhere in the DC/Bmore area that's like Amsterdam Falafelshop but with Meat?
Max's doesn't do serve-yourself, but it still rules. You can even tell the guys general guidelines and they'll take it from there.
Wisconsin Food in DC, MD, VA?
Is he the guy at the Oakton market on Saturdays? Those are good.

Max's in Wheaton. Will not disappoint.
Your Top 10-12 favorite DC Metro restaurants?
Probably depends on where you're from, where you're staying, modes of transportation available to you and then your tastes, of course.
Have motorcycle. Will travel for good food. (DC, MD, VA and WVA)
Oh, I would add Rt 5 in So. MD. There's Thompson's Seafood Corner, for soft shells and other things to eat there; crabcakes to bring back and cook at home.
Randy's BBQ has been mentioned a few times, though I haven't been myself.
Clarke's Landing was great a few years ago - I need to go back.
C&D at Solomon's Island is a very nice place. Sort of a "niece" to the Dry Dock (owners of C&D used to work at Dry Dock for a long time.

I need to try Crozet at some point. Used to go near that area a lot, but not since having kids....
Maybe it's time to get back on the proverbial horse.

Any new cheap eats discoveries around DC?
Any more info on it? The site is empty. How does it compare to places like Joe's, HKP, etc.?
New Peruvian Chicken in Reston
Was at Home Depot yesterday nearing noontime and took another chance. Everything that was wrong about the place has improved. Very good salad (far above what is usual for Pollo places). The yucca is much better and in line with what it *should be.
Real Buffalo Wings Needed
Just to clarify, you went to Buffalo Billiards or Bungalow Billiards? The first is in DuPont while the latter is in a few places (Shirlington, Chantilly, one other place?). Anyway, just trying to clarify. I've been to Buffalo Billiards, but that was years ago and only for snooker, not food (so I can't say about food).
Real Buffalo Wings Needed
Yes, they have beef on weck, and that was the sandwich I've ordered the most. It has been a while since I've had it, though.
Real Buffalo Wings Needed
I agree with making your own. However, I will vouch for Bungalow Billiards as well as Jimmy's in oldtown Herndon. At BB, get the 3 mile island sauce as a side. Not a traditional Buffalo style (you'll largely get that with the wings), but it's great. Jimmy in Herndon is from Buffalo and so if you have any issues, ask for Jimmy and talk with him. He's cool.
Moving to Pentagon City-a summary, please
Forgot to say that there is a Good Stuff that is opening in Crystal City soon. I haven't been to one of the other locations, yet, though.
Wisconsin Food in DC, MD, VA?
To that point, the OP might want to try the German Gourmet at some point, though it's not very metro friendly.
Moving to Pentagon City-a summary, please
I've started working in Crystal City a few months ago and have started venturing up to P City when I have some things to read and extra time. Saigon Saigon seems to be decent enough Vietnamese. The pho is definitely good and the rest of the menu looks good. I haven't personally had more than pho there (and there's the general rule where good pho and good other menu items don't exist together - but I'm wanting to explore).
There's a Leb Tav there, but I haven't been to that location.
There is a Thai place in Crystal City, but especially with a car just head to Columbia Pike to Thai Square or Bangkok 54.
Dining near the Renaissance Downtown DC and a random question
For question 2: Half smokes. And for them go to Eastern Market. Best yet, take a picture of yourself in front of Ben's Chili Bowl (U Street), and tell whomever that this is where the half smokes came from. Prolong the dreary misconception that Ben's really is any good.
Great Mom and Pop places Highpoint NC
Are you only interested in diners?
In Baltimore, in historic Fells Point is Jimmy's. While Jimmy's is a pretty good experience in itself, you'll be able to see Fells Point and take that in a bit.
Just South of Baltimore on 95 is Frank's Diner at Route 175 (and then just East of 95 one light, then South a few hundred feet).
Looking for good food south of Dulles Airport
I've put down a few times here that I believe their wings are some of the best in the area in the traditional style (albeit slightly different). Get the three mile island sauce on the side.
Moving to Herndon
On principle alone I really implore everyone not to go to Tipicos. When they had their first location service was completely awful. Food was good once you got it but how long does it take to make a taco?
Second, they ended up buying Teocalli, which was around the corner, changing the menu and degrading the service. Why? I don't know. Then they closed it down. A sad day for Herndon.
I don't understand why they are still in business. If in Sterling, Betty's is the place. In Reston, it's been a bit for me, but the market in the parking lot of Lake Anne as well as the Pharmacy in Lake Anne both had places that were at least decent.
Again, principle alone forces me to warn about Tipicos.
Moving to Herndon
Thanks for the tip on the pollo place. There used to be a great place near there, but they went out of business some years ago and since then I feel that Herndon doesn't really have stellar pollo.
Blacksalt, Lauberge Chez Francois, BLT or... ?
Which is why, for the money, I'd rather drive to Blacksalt. In general I'm not a fan of Town Center anyway. Instant City, just add water. PassionFish is (imo) easily the best, but I think your ocean liner description is right on.
Edit: And I always feel I get very attentive service at Blacksalt.
Garlic Chive giveaway
Ha! I have less than you it sounds like, but I also have given away a good few bunches this year. I'll have to check out the recipe.
DD Barbecue - Sterling, VA
Nice pic! That rig he's got is impressive and he seems to know how to work it. They gave me a bit of beans gratis after I talked with them for a while, but they were pretty much mush. I liked the flavor but they were too far gone at that point.
I need to try more of the sides, and I'm glad I'm not the only Hound that knows of them before now.
Oh, and I missed you by quite a bit. I didn't get there until close to 5 on Sunday.
Blacksalt, Lauberge Chez Francois, BLT or... ?
I concur! Blacksalt also has a nice gallery view, but not forced upon you, especially with the glass wall dividing the main room from most of it.
I like Passionfish for the food, and that there's a place that nice within a short drive of my house. However, I'd easily make the drive to Blacksalt first, and largely because of the ambiance and general tone of the vibe.

There are two numbers to try for the call ahead, etc.

DD Barbecue - Sterling, VA
I went on Sunday around 5pm. They did mention that a couple of hours prior there was a large group that came by and bought a lot of food from them.
I expect that if you go on Saturday, then nearly anytime will be good, but Kerry did say the trick was having enough without cooking too much. He said many items stay on the smoker for 12 hours or more.
He does have a call ahead number on his card, but I left it at home. I'll try to post that tonight.
Blacksalt, Lauberge Chez Francois, BLT or... ?
It's been a while now since I've been to BlackSalt, but it's generally one of the two places in the area we go to for a special dinner out. BlackSalt has always done good by us in the service assistance to pick items and match them as well. We've ended up mostly ordering items that were specials this way - and have always been very happy with what we got.
