china moon cookbook

This is my all time favorite and most used cookbook . My original copy was a paperback and its now in pieces. This is the Chinese food my children grew up eating, her recipes and my ones I've conceived using her "pantry items" . There are very few recipes I haven't tried but the ones my family and guests clamor for most are Chicken and bacon fried rice, Gold coin corn cakes , Wok seared tuna, dragon noodles, many mushroom buns and brined pork loin with pasilla pepper sauce. When my children left home both took bottles of Mala and Orange chili oil along with roasted Szechwan pepper salt. It's not a quicky cookbook but if you have the time and ingredients to make the pantry and cook the recipes then you will be rewarded with incredible meals that just may ruin you when it comes to eating Chinese food out side the home. Pictured below an assortment of her pickles and a bowl of Hot and sour chicken sandpot with Mandarin bread twists

Pork and Pâté Vietnamese Sandwich (Banh Mi)

I'm getting here late, but since this sandwich is showing up on the most delicious list I thought I'd add my 2cents. The Banh Mi baguette is made with equal parts rice and wheat flower. For matthewf01, the red color on the pork comes from star anise which is in the 5 spice powder which is used as seasoning on the pork or chicken or beef used in the sandwich . The pate consistency is more like an Italian bologna than a french pate.

Jalapeño-Corn-Beer Quick Bread

I made this to go along with some chili instead of my usual cornbread. I didn't have a pilsner beer so I used lager. I also added about a half a cup diced cheddar along with the jalapenos and corn. (I added these before adding the beer and butter, this helps the chopped ingredients stay evenly disbursed throughout the dough instead of sinking to the bottom.) It was a big hit with everyone and the leftovers were delicious toasted the next day.

Ketchup

Thanks for posting this . I have been eliminating all foods containing high fructose corn syrup from my pantry . This recipe looks easy and delicious. My family doesn't love ketchup as much as your boyfriend, I'm wondering if you know how long this will stay fresh in the fridge , could it be frozen or the recipe cut in half?

In the Kitchen with an Asian Grandmother

I bought myself the book for Christmas. I'm not Asian but I cook like one. I've really enjoyed the book so far. These are the comfort foods and special dishes you don't always find in cookbooks. The recipes are easy to follow and the grandmothers stories a delight to read. I know this is a cookbook I'll use again and again.

reinhart bread books?

I have been baking from the Artisan breads everyday book for about a month now . It's not nearly as comprehensive as the Bread Bakers apprentice but it has all the important info a novice baker needs to mix, proof, shape and bake really delicious breads. I'd say start with this one and move on to the Bread Bakers Apprentice when you've mastered the basics. Here's a shot of todays loaf , pain au levain, It was delicious and my favorite recipe for this type of bread so far .
