Residence Inn Kitchen

I will be staying here for quite a while and I am on my own. Meal expenses are out of pocket. I will have plenty of time to explore but my body and my wallet cannot handle eating out every meal every day. Graydon, thanks for the rec on the farmer's market. I'd seen it but hadn't ventured in yet. I've searched the boards a bit so I have a bunch of choices in Bergen County picked out but I guess I was looking to see if anyone had any specific recs that are near the hotel.

Thanks for the suggestions!

I will have a car! I am coming from small town NC so I don't regularly have access to anything more interesting than fried chicken, steak, biscuits, etc.

Thanks guys for giving me what you know. I think I'll give them a call. While we are at it, anyone have any restaurant recs in the area?

Residence Inn Kitchen

I will be staying at the Residence Inn in Rutherford, NJ for a while. They say they have a fully stocked kitchen. Anyone know exactly what that means/includes? I know there is a microwave, range, fridge. Below are some of the things I am wondering about:

Cups
Plates
Utensils
Pots/Pans - what sizes/types,
Measuring tools - spoons/cups?
Mixer/food processor
Knife
Cutting board
Spatulas/tongs

I imagine all Residence Inn's are stocked about the same so if you know something from another one I would appreciate knowing your experience.

Updated Recs for Greenville, SC please

If you like indian food, Handi Indian Cuisine, which is downtown is great. I had the chicken tikka masala, palak paneer, always get garlic naan and those were all delicious.

I have been to DaVinci's a couple times and was unimpressed. Maybe next time I'll try the garlic knots. mmmm I love garlic knots.

Memphis TN to Grenada MS restaurant recs needed

I will be flying into Memphis, staying in Grenada, MS for a night and flying back out from memphis the next day. I am looking for a recommendation on lunch that is on my way between Memphis and Grenada, preferably close to 55, closer to memphis since I land at noon and relatively quick. Also dinner recommendation at/near Grenada. I am figuring I will get dinner at Interstate BBQ at the airport on my way back.

I agree Sushi Umi is awesome. I will definitely need to try the curry katsu. I've only had assorted types of sushi.

Reservations in Vegas

I am going to Las Vegas the week after Thanksgiving. This is my first trip (woohoo!!) so we will be sticking to the touristy strip area for the most part. I've seen lots of posts saying to make reservations everywhere you want to go. This being the off season and my wanting to not have concrete plans, are reservations really critical at this time? I don't have a specific plan yet but these are some of the places I am thinking about: LOS, Rosemary's, Burger Bar, Mesa Grill, Red 8, Bouchon and I am always open to additional suggestions. There are 2 of us going and we are 25/26.

Basic cooking

I wasn't terribly impressed with the 2 classes I took at Sur La Table at Pentagon Row. I took a Wok cooking class and the recipes just weren't that good and I took a seafood one that ended up just being a demo, no hands on. Hopefully yours will go well.

If you are really into pies I would recommend the Pie and Pastry Bible by Rose Levy Beranbaum. She has recipes for about 1000 different crusts and it tells you why they are different and what the difference does for your pie.

If you get into baking in general I would recommend Cookwise by Shirley O Corriher. She goes much more into the food chemistry and then gives you the recipe and an explanation on what is critical in the recipe.

Help me plan my Candy Tour

This posting totally makes my day! I live in PA about an hour north of Ephrata (Pottsville to be exact) and I have been wanting to go down to Lancaster because I have heard there's all sorts of good stuff but I never knew exactly where. The only trouble will be getting down there Friday after work but rest assured I will find a way!
