Recipe? SF burrito beans

I don't think that's quite it. I'm quite sure there was more to the flavour than just onion and garlic. Other ideas?

Recipe? SF burrito beans

Hey all,

I visited SF back in April, and am still dreaming of your burritos (I went to La Taqueria and Taqueria Cancun). The reason? Those amazing beans.

Up here in Toronto, our burritos often feature paste-like refried bean goop. But -- and I'm assuming this is commonplace in California -- the SF Mission district burritos we ate had the incredible whole (pinto?) beans that seemed to be simmered in a rich, flavorful broth.

I'm hunting for recipes, but know little of Mexican cuisine. Any help?

Good spot for a group of 20 in Toronto?

Hey all,

I'm looking for a recommendation: I'm planning my dad's 70th birthday party and having trouble finding exactly the right spot. Ideally, I'm looking for a place with a private room, in the realm of French/Italian/contemporary, nice to moderately pricey, with a casual upscale feel (like Allen's) without being too much of a loud party place (he's turning 70 for God's sake). Anyone had a good experience booking a group somewhere?

All suggestions appreciated!

Take-out from South China

Ack. I actually ordered from this place because of these comments. Mistake. The bag was actually dripping grease when it arrived at my house. I've never thrown out Chinese takeout leftovers before, but there wasn't a salvageable dish in the lot. The mixed veg were about 1/3 onions, mixed with flavourless carrots and broccoli that were boiled almost beyond recognition. The noodles were so mushy they were almost not individual noodles. The ribs were greasy. The chicken was greasy. The egg rolls were soaked in grease. I like good greasy takeout but this was actually nauseating.

I'm going to give the place the benefit of the doubt and say that they were having a really off day, but I'll never eat their food again.
