Great Taste in New Britain?

Looking for light, fresh, well-seasoned Chinese food in the Newington, CT area. I saw Great Taste mentioned several times in older posts- is it still worth checking out? Any newer recommendations? Thanks!

Connecticut Pizza

I will drive for the hot oil pizza at Colony Grill- and be sure to get extra "stinger" peppers on it. The place is a dive, the pizzas are small, but they are different than most others out there. I would cross off all the places in West Hartford, and I agree with those who say Mulberry Street is worth it if you are already in the Manchester, CT area.

help a pregnant girl figure out dinner (Hartford, CT area)

Too funny. I am also from NJ originally and KNOW my diners, so I am very picky! I haven't tried either of the ones you suggested yet, so thanks for the green light. Sounds like J Timothy's may be worth looking into too! Thanks all :-)

I'm a foodie at heart and starving all the time, but NOTHING is sounding good as a meal. I'm also getting that weird combo thing going on, like "gee, shrimp and chocolate *could* go together, then in the next second I want to throw up from that idea.

Sooo, please fellow Chowhounds, where would you go for dinner tonight and what would you have? Here's the guidelines:
- Under $20/ entree
- Relatively kid friendly (we have a well-behaved toddler who typically eats what we eat)
- Good dessert would be a bonus.
- We live west of the river so nothing too far east (Glastonbury would be furthest)

Thanks!!

Cupcakes in CT/MA?

if you are dreaming of Sprinkles cupcakes you can buy their mixes (incl frosting) at Williams Sonoma right here in CT. Obviously not the same exact thing but could get you by. Also- their website says they ship...

Two More Restaurants Closing in Manchester, CT

Agree that Pepe's is the best in the area, but I've also enjoyed several meals at Natori Sushi in the plaza with the Petsmart and Starbucks.

The fish has always been very fresh, and while their menu isn't the most adventurous they are willing to accommodate requests. Also, the service is pleasant and the location very clean.

Good Bakeries in New Hampshire

Every time we drive to Loon I plan the trip around the hours that Madeleine's is open. it's in Concord, on N main street. If you've not been before... the owner/ baker is always there, and he is charming, talkative and talented!

While I've not tried their signature madeleine cookies, I adore their apricot or raspberry filled cookies, as well as their fruit tarts and cakes. Almost everything comes in "indvidual" sizes, but many items are so wonderfully rich that sharing is encouraged.

They use whole ingredients, no lard in the buttercream here! And as you'd expect from a French bakery their baguette is perfectly chewy. They also sell quiche, a few sandwiches and soup, all homemade, to balance out the sugar rush with a little protein. They will gladly heat this for you if desired.

One last note- although I can't bring myself to try it, they seem to have a very loyal following for Gorton- a French Canadian spread that I'd call a pork pate.

Good eats off I-91 in MA or VT?

Too funny, as I just realized how old this thread was- whoops!

My memories of Tu y Yo are very similar to what you wrote... and now you have me intrigued to try Autentica, should I ever find myself in the area (and if it's still around, lol). Hatch chiles are a true joy.. our Whole Foods gets them in for a month or so each year and as somebody who was weened on hot peppers I put up a big string to dry when I see them on sale.

Glad to hear Santa Fe is treating you well... and you know that Legal SeaFoods does mail order should that lobster roll craving ever get too strong :-)

Good eats off I-91 in MA or VT?

I will admit upfront that I haven't been in a few years... but Tu y Yo in Somerville used to have the best, authentic Mexican food I'd had outside of Las Vegas. Sounds like a much closer drive then S Hadley, although maybe not *exactly* what you're craving. (And for klutzygirl below- I had sopapillas there once that were so good i accidentally dropped some of the filling onto the paper-covered table and yes, I scooped it off the paper and ate the last bit)

Southeastern CT Maine Shrimp Truck

Sounds like there should be plenty to go around this year, in fact the season was extended: http://pressherald.mainetoday.com/sto.... It's partially the supply that's keeping prices so low.

Must Eats - West Hartford, CT - 24-Hour Stay

I really enjoy Monte Alban- their mole is complex (try the Enchiladas Oaxaquenas), portions are more than generous and service is very friendly. Also, although far from a hole in the wall or local treat I do always enjoy the raw bar items from Max Oyster. Let us know what you decided!

any good breakfast spots off 84 by hartford??

I say Mo's handsdown, especially over Chez Ben. Mo's has amazing pancakes (including potato pancakes served w/ sour cream). I'm a big fan of the apple walnut. Also- their homefries are to die for, as long as they've been on the grill long enough. The bacon is usually sitting out, so either ask them to throw it back on the grill or skip it for sausage.
Eggs are great here too- the "egg mcMo" is a personal favorite.
Totally agree with pp who said this is a greasy spoon- I think it's also cash only, but pretty cheap.

Help me find a Connecticut pizza place.

I am racking my brain and can't come up with a place that fits that full description. Now I'm totally intrigued! You'll have to share if you remember the name...

Help me find a Connecticut pizza place.

I think you are looking for Zuppardi's in West Haven. CT. They are on Union Ave, in an area that is more residential than urban and the pizza looks like it could be theirs. Good luck!
