Are you sure you went to the Mai-Kai in Fort Lauderdale? It does not sound like that at all. I called the Mai-Kai and asked if they take reservations for parties of 1 for dinner and show and they said of course, happens all the time that people come on their own. They did tell me though that there are more tables for parties of 3 or 4 available than tables for 1-2, they get booked up first but they always try to accomodate every reservation. In any event - I have always been treated with very well and had a good time and would recommend it to anyone.

I've been going to the Mai-Kai since I was a teenager. It's the greatest place. I've seen the show many times and always am impressed with the costumes and the dances. One night when I was there they had a kid doing the fire knife dance together with the adult dancers - that was fantastic. The menu items are "up there" if you order from the oven section BUT I have never had a bad meal. Their Ribeye steak is the best steak I ever had. I think it is a combination of the marinade and how they cook it over open fire.
I'm sorry that you did not have the best experience while visiting the Mai-Kai, I recommend it to anyone. You can just go to the Molokai bar for a tropical drink or dine and see the show or just have dinner like you did (they are running some kind of buy one entree and receive a second at no charge - could not find anything on the website however). I hope you consider another visit to the Mai-Kai!
