Whitby/Durham restaurants that don't suck

Yes that is the location. I was told the place just opened. Maybe I was mistaken? Anyways, thought it was great. Tried 999 about a year ago and found the place a little dirty when I was there. Maybe I'll pop in again.

Whitby/Durham restaurants that don't suck

Just had my 2nd lunch at Pho Metro in Whitby. Everything is made in house. Best Pho in Durham hands down, great sides and amazing rolls. Nice atmosphere, pleasant service. This is their 2nd location. Their first location has been commented on many times by fellow chowhounders.
Finally a good option close to home!

ISO Pandan Leaves

Anyone know where I can find these leaves in Scarborough/Durham?
Making a Sri Lankan dish that emphasizes the need for this. Any suggested alternatives?

Atlantic Tastes in Toronto

Thanks Prima...I will check out...

Atlantic Tastes in Toronto

I have the same guilty pleasure....sigh..

Atlantic Tastes in Toronto

I have spent most of my summer going back and forth from Toronto to New England and have been eating a lot of steamer clams and fried whole clams. I cant seem to find fresh versions in restaurants in Toronto. Any suggestions? I am obviously not looking in the wrong places.

Whitby/Durham restaurants that don't suck

Yes it is out back. The way they designed it, you feel like you are in someones backyard, not in a parking lot. They also have some heaters and lounge seating as well.

I have tried the 1847 Bistro in Brooklin now 3 times and it has gotten progressively better each time. Great beer selection, cool food and great patio. The lamb burger with fries is very good, so is the cerviche.

Calgary Night Out

Thanks....will try your suggestion

Shediac Suggestions

Thank you for the suggestion of Bayou. It was quite good. Bun was a little larger than expected but it was good as well.
Cheers!

Calgary Night Out

Hello Calgary Hounds. I am hosting a work get together in 3 weeks time on a Saturday night. I would like a upscale casual restaurant with interesting food and drinks and the ability to chill afterwards (like a pool table or music). Any thoughts? For about 10 people. Thanks!

Shediac Suggestions

I will be in Shediac late Sunday afternoon and am looking for a feed of local seafood. Lobster, lobster roll, fried clams/oysters etc. I checked the boards but there is nothing current on Shediac. Any suggestions?

Chowfind: An authentic tasting 'Instant' Singapore Laksa Noodle La Mien good enough for Chowhounders!

The Miliken store only has the Curry...I bought 4 and there were only 4 left.

Whitby/Durham restaurants that don't suck

I also tried the Veal Sandwiches at Marashino yesterday. The veal was so tender not like most others that are a bit like leather. I will ask for more sauce next time and some hot peppers. This place really is a GEM!!

Whitby/Durham restaurants that don't suck

I just had lunch at Maraschino yesterday. We tried 3 pies (Margarita, Spicy Sausage, and Grilled Veggie) All 3 were excellent. Great atmosphere and VERY friendly owners/servers. I would not have found this place without you hidpage...thank you. Finally a very good thin crust pie maker in Durham. I will be back to try the veal sandwiches. They looked really good.

When in Italy [moved from Ontario]

C Hounder's, I am taking my family to Italy in May. This is our first visit. I will be in Milan, Venice, Florence, and Rome. Any can't miss places you would recommend? Price is a consideration but not the only requirement. Thanks Much.

Toronto's worst dives

Thank you for this. The biggest dive ever was Roberta's. On jarvis just south of Dundas on the East Side. They had terry cloth tables in order to wipe up the blood. A pool table that was dangerous, and cheap beer to get you to Larry's or the Gasworks.Crazy. Glad to be alive now.

Toronto's worst dives

I remember the Rondun. I saw many a bands there. I remember the draft was very cheap and in small 5-6 oz glasses. You would order entire trays for the table. It is still not around is it?

Toronto's worst dives

I miss that place even more after reading the srticle. Thanks for passing on. I forgot about Danny K.

Toronto's worst dives

Loved the Gasworks but I loved Larry's Hideaway even more. Great music, great soundsystem and ugly as hell. The rooms upstairs were something to behold.
Every night tht place was filled with punks, goths, metalheads, and every musician in town looking for a break.

Whitby/Durham restaurants that don't suck

Thanks. I will give it a try.

The Old Toronto Restaurants you make the wishes for the comeback

I forgot about Napolean's what a ground breaking place. The one and only time I had pernod and lobster that was balanced.
I also loved Dante's for their Risotto.

The Old Toronto Restaurants you make the wishes for the comeback

I think they called it the Fast Lane Burger. I have done the same to no avail. And their Caesars in mason jars was a radical concept back then!!

Whitby/Durham restaurants that don't suck

I know the place. Is it still just frozen meats though?

Is there a single decent Chinese restaurant in Whitby or Oshawa?

Good point. I meant to say there are Good BBQ, Burgers, wings, donairs......:)

Buster Rhinos is great....what dont you like about it?

Is there a single decent Chinese restaurant in Whitby or Oshawa?

There is nothing in Whitby/Oshawa for what you seek. Scarborough or Markham is closest. I would also say there is no great Thai, Indonesian, Indian, or Vietnamese. Good BBQ, Burgers, wings, donairs......
