Pressure cooker / slow cooker which is NOT non-stick

Does anyone know of a combination pressure and slow cooker which is not non-stick, and also electric (has a built in timer)? I have not managed to find very many electric non-non-stick pressure cookers, I found one, but now I can't find the link! Its problem was that it had no "low" feature—it couldn't be used as a slow cooker! Which seemed a bit odd.

Anyway, any help would be highly appreciated!

First, I really wanted to thank all of you serious contributors to this board. I've mostly been lurking, but you've really enhanced my Parisian experience this last month.

Tomorrow (Monday) is my friend's last day in Paris and we completely forgot to book for dinner. We've been to a lot of great restaurants recommended by all of you on this board, but he's neglected to try what he thinks of as "classic french," often bistro-type food: in particular, he'd like to try escargot, confit de canard, and a soufflet (maybe the escargot is an outlier here?) Does anyone have any recommendations for a bistro or other restaurant, as delicious as possible, where he could try some (all?) of these things? Unfortunately, it's a Monday in the middle of August...!

Also, does anyone know about the Comptoir du Relais? I've heard it's open for dinner still? Do they have a prifixe dinner, or a la carte; if the latter, what is it like? We've been there for lunch, and if we can't find a bistro, we thought it might be an option for tomorrow.

Best under-50 euro menus in Paris

Well, we're mostly talking about dinner, though we'd be interested in lunch as well. I meant without beverages, and our geographic limits are within reach of a metro stop. As for established vs. new, I think we'd want to try both! I know it's all very subjective, but we're a little lost so we're just looking for ideas!

Best under-50 euro menus in Paris

My two friends and I are in Paris this summer for about a month and a half, and we'd like to go out to a special meal every weekend, which makes about 6 meals in total. We're especially partial to this new-ish breed of younger chefs, often at bistro-type restaurants, offering relatively cheap, often fixed (we like that!) tasting menus. For example, two of us went to le Chateaubriand and really enjoyed it. Others in this category which I've heard of include L'Agrume, Frenchie, Le Comptoir du Relais (we've gone for lunch and thought it was only so-so, but maybe the dinner is spectacular), etc. We enjoy more traditional French restaurants as well, so please feel free to recommend those, but we would still be looking for near-to or under-50 menus, and it seems to get something really special, in that category, one might have to get much pricier.

So, which 6 (or so) restaurants would you recommend?

(Edit: Ack, I forgot to say, this month includes August! I hope that doesn't limit our choices too much...)

Fromagerie or Monoprix for cheese?

Thanks for all the advice! We ended up doing a blind taste test for fun, a Camembert au calvados from monoprix vs. one from Quatrehomme (on rue de l'esperance, just a few blocks away, how fortunate). Unfortunately, this might have been the wrong cheese to blind-test; in the end the Quatrehomme was indeed much different, more intense and exciting, in fact a little strange, whereas the monoprix was much more like an OK, non-calvados, Camembert.

In any case, our stay in Paris being just for a month, and the Quatrehomme being such a cute shop, we've made our minds up. But still, I'd like to continue to explore the question. People have raised the points that the shop might age their own cheese (obviously a clear source of difference, probably in favor of the fromagerie), they will store them more properly, and they will offer them up when ripe. Further, you can get personal advice from the cheese-monger.

I suppose my question was, do they also get "better" cheeses right from the beginning? Or are the initial sources actually of comparable quality (monoprix vs. quatrehomme, say).

Fromagerie or Monoprix for cheese?

I'm trying to convince my roommate (we're both living together in Paris for the summer), that it's better to go to a fromagerie (preferably a top quality one), than to the monoprix to get cheese. He argues that many of these cheeses are only made by one or a few places any way, and that these particular cheeses will therefore be the same at the monoprix as at a cheese store (for sure, the monoprix has an impressive amount of cheese for a supermarket, says the american!)

Still, it feels like the cheese store must be better... but why? I'd love to hear as many arguments as possible. Especially because our french is not that great, we might not be able to talk to a shopkeeper (though we probably could)--- but are there any other reasons to favor the cheese store? And any reasons not to go to the monoprix?

Jean Georges lunch on saturday—any suggestions?

Hi, I'm going back to Jean Georges for lunch on saturday. The first time I went, I had a look on chow first, and read about the parmesan chicken, which we wouldn't have ordered on our own, but which ended up being the best dish we got. Does anyone have any other similar favorite-dish-on-the menu suggestions? In particular, anything added recently?

Best cheeseboard pizzas to try before I leave Berkeley?

Hi all, I'm leaving Berkeley pretty soon (back to the East coast!), in about 2 weeks. I've never eaten Cheeseboard pizza (I've only been here a semester, and so far my Cheeseboarding has been devoted to the cheese+bread store), and I need to decide when to go! Does anyone have any favorites among their "regulars" pizzas? Anything particularly worth a try? I can go more than once, of course...

Also, is there any word that the pizza is going down in quality? When I walk by it often looks unremarkable, a little burnt and with a scant amount of veggies... well, we'll see!

Where to get organic turkey breast

What's the best sort of "organic, free range, local, good for the world, good for you..." turkey breast (pre-cooked, preferably), that one can find in the bay area? (Berkeley or Oakland in particular).

I've been getting the "all-natural, free-range, house-roasted" stuff at Berkeley Bowl, but I don't know where they get it, and it's not certified organic. I've never seen anything like this at a farmers market, but maybe the Saturday-only meat people at the Berkeley market have something (I haven't been to the Sat-market recently)?

All in all, high quality organic non-specialty poultry seems more confusing than beef, for some reason. Thanks for any help!

Best "healthy" pastries in the east bay, best whole wheat bread

Thanks for all the replies so far! I guess I really should have split this into two posts. I would agree that no pastries are really very healthy, but again, as far as things go, if two pastries have equal amounts of butter and one has bran, then the latter will be a little healthier, presumably. If the latter has nuts, well, then it will have more protein but maybe more fat! Anyway, I'm often in the mood for something with a stouter flavor, which is usually true for these "healthy" pastries... but only if they're delicious! That's why I'm asking!

As for the other question... well, best whole wheat, that's something I'm definitely curious about.

FINALLY, I forgot the BEST WHOLE WHEAT item I've yet to have tasted. Crixa Cakes whole wheat honey nut role (vegan! how is that possible) is, I have to say, absolutely stunning. Might be the best bread item in the east bay.

Best "healthy" pastries in the east bay, best whole wheat bread

I'm wondering what everyone thinks are the best "healthy" pastries in the east bay. No pastries are really healthy, I s'pose, but some have bran, oats, raisins, other fruits, nuts, seeds... and other things with a modicum of nutrients! Since I have a hard time deciding what to get in a delicious bakeshop anyway, I usually am happiest erring on the side of slightly healthier (and this provides a more consistent way to judge bakeries against each other).

Of course, bran muffins are the most obvious, and there are oat bars, oat scones, etc...

And who makes the best whole wheat bread??

As for bran muffins, the bread garden makes a good small one that I like, and I also happen to think their whole wheat loaf is delicious; it also lasts for an incredibly long time in a plastic bag.

At La Farine (too French to be really healthy, I think), I tried the "wheat levain" but it didn't seem any "wholer" than white bread. I should have asked them how they make it. The spelt loaf at Cheeseboard is another tasty whole-grain bread, but it was a little too dry for my tastes. Of course, the cheeseboard has the cherry-corn scone, which is a whole grain. Anyone have an opinion on their oat scones?

For what it's worth, I just had lunch at EMP today and they were using the old menu. You might want to call and find out which menu you'll be getting, though don't stress out about it either way!
