I can't believe my post was deleted?!! I wanted to say as others have, Harvey's of course I understand. Kpaxonite, have a little understanding for the OP. When my dad was in hospital in Regina, Sask., all I wanted was to go to the A & W spot where he used to take me as a little one. Sadly, my dad past away. A & W will always have special meaning for me.

Fried Clams in Montreal

So what, Celfie? Of course Montreal is "culturally" far away from New Orleans and Louisiana. That sounds so elitist!
Why should that stop Montreal from reaching outside of it's "boundaries" and embracing other food cultures? Why not have Maine come to us? We are so close to great seafood, wouldn't be much of a stretch...

horse meat in Montreal

(Nina) Horse meat is NOT common in France anymore. On a recent trip to Paris, I mentioned that it was something I would never eat and asked why it was popular in France. I was quickly shut down quite rudely and told it is definitely out of fashion now and it would be difficult to find it on a menu! I then got a lecture on Canada's vulgar seal hunting.

Everything closed Friday, June 24?

Being new to Montreal, I am told that Friday is John the Baptist Day in Montreal, a holiday of all things for a saint?(thought nobody attends church anymore in Quebec??) I have first time visitors to Montreal coming on that day!! I know I can call restaurants, but offhand, does anyone know if it's really a holiday that would shut down most things??

Ooey-gooey Homestyle Cinnamon Buns?

Saskatoon berries, oh how I miss them! I am from Regina and used to pick them very often. I have been told that Service berries are the same thing? Also that they are available at Jean Talon Market in the summer. I had forgotten about cinnamon buns....mmmm, now I must go on a hunt from some.

Îles-de-la-Madeleine lobsters?

Gag me with a spoon!!! Nova Scotia has the best lobster! But, you must travel there.
Iles-de-la Madeleine, wow, the worst lobster I have every had.

Thanks to both for the replies! We definitely will visit Maine, skip the Festival and follow your recommendations.

Rockland, Maine, Lobster Festival, August, 2011

We are planning a trip to Maine, (coming from Montreal, Quebec)hope to rent a cottage and stay 1 week. Looking at areas with great seafood close at hand. Is this Festival as good as it sounds? Thanks.

Fernando, that's the place on Roy.

Want to cook a turkey for Easter and wondering if anyone knows of a particularly good place to buy a fresh turkey? I recall someone mentioning a place on Roy in the Plateau.
