Galveston

Went to Galveston Texas in April love this town it has a small town feeling but yet close to Houston and the people are just good folks I must say but had to go where everyone says "you must eat" Sunflower is ok the breads and pastries are good but it is pricey the main people are locals that are upper class and vacationers that have beach homes there, second was Mosquito cafe the food is good reminds me more of the orange county california style nothing fried there but the fried eggs it is good food there and very popular with the tourist and locals but anything you get is tasty Chef Hector knows his job and place in life, The original Mexican resturant not too impressed too bland no flavor to me but yet I like the tex-mex more so if your not into spicy go there but the Apacie Mexican resturant off the strand I really enjoyed and talked to the cook and people were friendly as well, there is a new resturant that is more for "Date night type the 901 it is off the corner of market and 9th street it was a house they turned into a resturant $$$ but good and like I said it is a date night or romantic setting for a couple trying to lite up the night off the corner behind the UTMB parking garage is is a little place Smooth Tony's here is a good lunch stop off 9th street the price is right and the place is comfy with a good menu now another place to enjoy is off Oave shrimp n stuff if you like fried this is your man everything is fried there and a local favorite place to go the price is right and the atmosphere is just as good people talk to you here and give you ideas to go and see. DiBella's Italian Restaurant 1902 31st St. Galveston, TX 77550 take ave. O and go here for good Italian place to eat also kid friendly as well it is hidden but worth the visit, another new resturant is Nada 408 20th st near the strand try the evening time cause one is is hard to find there is a sign but no direction to where the front is and second during the day it is impossible to find parking because of the professional buildings around with their marked parking spaces and then top it off Galveston is talking about returning parking meters I tried it once not impressed but not to say I wont go back again sure with any new place all the bugs have to be worked out and fine tune everything I say give it a try and see for yourself the manager there was nice and ok to visit with but they are happy with the spanish speaking arena of people. Another is Star Drug this is a fun place and takes you back the owners are great and family runed it is a pleasure to go here to visit and eat, The stork club and the Gumbo family friendly and nice price to eat with a large amount of food so go hungry I say but both are enjoyable both price and food. Dutch Kettle 3600 Seawall Blvd now think of Mels diner off Alice and you have the Dutch this is a good place after being in the hotel and want a good breakfast on the cheap or a late night meal or even a place that is close to the beach with ten kids ready to eat staff is hilarious eachtime I went just home cooking here nothing fancy. Like greek food
Olympia The Grill is the place OMG the gyro salad is the best, cajun your style? Leo's Cajun Corner has some darn good smoked chicken and boudin is good and the staff is just great to be around.
These places are local favs and easy on the pocket book when your just visiting there.
Have Fun and enjoy.

Galveston, Texas

Been in Galveston Texas I must say I loved it there the people are friendly and just a great place I know it is a tourist place but when inside of it all it goes deeper with the positive attitudes.
I like Tex mex food with a bite and gave the orig mexican resturant a chance 2 times just never any flavor to me bland so I searched around and the Apache Mexican Cuisine 511 20th St
Galveston, TX 77550 was so good the cook you can watch him through a window and he puts alot into it and was friendly as well it is close to the strand area and is worth the visit.

Luling TX

Texas c-store chain Buc-ee's, a 25-store outfit whose eccentricity and quirkiness has ... pronounced "Bucky's" — the biggest and most famous is the flagship in Luling where you can see alot it is huge but did not find anything there I wanted to eat just sandwiches and burritos naw so I left and went to Valor gas mart to get gas it was cheaper from there hidden away I saw The Rail Car Diner looks like an old rail car not much to see but went in as greeted very kindly and the staff was friendly and talkative. For the rainy day they had homemade chili and chicken noodle soup both were good I got the catfish and a friend got the ruben sand. both had great flavor and the price for two people was a great deal then shared a slice of apple pie I am not much of a cinn. person so just had a bite it was good and you can add ice cream with your desserts.
I had noticed a few people at Buc-ees were feeling and talking "Let's just go" so if anyone is going through this area off I-10 and want to stop for a bite I would def. say this dinner it is worth the stop and Buc-ees is a good tourist place to look around and get items of the Texas style.
Happy 4th all.

Hole In Walls

Hole in Walls we been to them, grew up on some of them, LOL taken dates to them. The places we can go and sit down roll up our sleeves and put on the old feed bag, found along Hwys and old roads, small towns. Well I found one in a place you wouldnt think cuddled in a residental area burried. Chile Chipotle 7323 Dale Road, El Paso, TX when you arrive it is like "what in the" .It is a husband and wife running the place, There is a half wall between the kitchen and dinning area where you can watch him cook your food and have a conversation with him they make you feel comfortable the menu is mexican dishes but the chef there can make anything you desire by asking, I have been there many times and each time I just say suprise me.
His portfolio is a wow factor on its own born and raised in New york and working in resturants there he joined the Navy and was a main cook/Chef for the higher commanders on ships there after he returned to New york and met his wife that is from El Paso and moved to the area and bought this place. I do recomend to all foodies to check this place out you will feel like your with friends.
I know this is for Texas but certain roads take you out of Texas into New Mexico and returns you into Texas but in Ruidoso New mexico for those of us that have been there enjoy the casinos and the main street shopping along with resturants to stop in but there is a new one called Masion 2919 Suddith Dr. N.M. 88345. Here is another Hus. and wife team she went to Le Cordon Bleu in AZ and is gret at what she does, she made mac and cheese a fine dinning experience. LOL

late night eats in el paso, tx?

11 PM on the eve is cutting it close. Caroline is right airway is the main strip from the airport to the hwy with hotels along the area 1) The cattle baron has good food at good prices eachtime I eat there I enjoy it, 2)Village Inn has a good meal if you like something simple ,3)Chilies is friendly and good but service can be slow when the male workers are flirting with the female workers, 4) Jaxons is closer to the hwy, Here the mexican food is real tasty, 5)over Geronimo Drive is Seafood galley it was owned by another person doing good but close to the end it was getting a bad reputation then someone stepped up and cleaned the place up and started producing good food it had been a long time since I returned there but something just nagged me till I did, I am glad I did, the place had really opened up without all the fish tanks the staff was great. I ordered the ribeye and shrimp dinner for $7.99 nice thickness, juicy, cook perfect. The shrimp batter told me it had a desire to become something better than something you see on chicken fried steak or poorly battered fried chicken other then the batter the jumbo shrimp was cooked and not too bad.
Chico's Tacos are all the talk in El Paso just cheap deep fried food that becomes soggy after the watered down salsa gets on it pounded down with cheese. But yea if you been out all night drinking this is the place to go. Like the nights when we were teenagers driving the loop or mainstreet stopping at the local Knoxx diner/arcade or drive-inn seeing all our friends.
