Royal Mile Pub Wheaton, I heard that it is re-opened?

Nice, thanks for the suggestions guys!

Royal Mile Pub Wheaton, I heard that it is re-opened?

I went last night and really enjoyed my bangers and mash; the potatoes were out of this world! I was really intimidated by the Scotch selection. Whiskey is my drink of choice, but usually mixed with ginger ale. Any suggestions for a good place to start on their menu? To be honest, I've never drank anything nicer than Jameson.

Why New York Hates Third-Wave Coffee

Honestly the most insulting part of this article is its insistence on dividing American coffee culture into "East" and "West" coasts, when Intelligentsia in Chicago has won the International Barista competition year after year after year.

No Drinks = Bad Service

Ssharp, not that this excuses it, but as a server, I always grumble a little when someone orders a Shirley Temple or a cherry Coke. I'll get it for you, but it is extra work for me. The restaurant I work at has grenadine at the drink station, but a lot of places you have to take it to the bar. Doesn't excuse rudeness at all though, and no matter how much I don't want to make chocolate milk, hot cocoa, or cherry coke, I'll bring it to you with a smile and a "No problem!".

Nutty Chocolate–Peanut Butter Chews

I LOVE these cookies. I'm not a good baker but these come out great every time. I find that they come out better if I make them a little bigger than normal cookies, it helps them stay gooey in the middle and crispy on the outside.

Patricia Wells's Crunchy Asparagus and Snow Pea Salad

This is cool, but isn't asparagus out of season most places now? Kind of defeats the purpose of the series if you guys take too long to produce them.

A Paleta Predicament: The Inconsistency of Monarca

You're probably looking at the wrong places! Here in Rogers Park, all the Mexican grocery stores (Devon Market, Morse Market, etc.) stock them. Come on up! :)

Restaurant recommendations with a color in the name

Blue Elephant, a Thai restaurant on the Rogers Park/Edgewater border at Devon & Broadway. Also, I haven't been but I hear the Red Apple is some of the best Polish food in Chicago, it's at 3123 N. Milwaukee. What a fun idea!!

Indonesian Restaurants

Gum Flavored Like High-Calorie Desserts

The Key Lime Pie one tastes very similar to the Zebra Stripes gum of my childhood, but since it doesn't come w/tattoos it doesn't live up to the original...

Which restaurants do you go to at least once a month and why? What do you get?

My neighborhood breakfast joint and Thai restaurant (Alexander's and Hello Sushi, both in Edgewater) mostly for convenience, and Young's Chinese on Irving Park and Ashland, because I'm addicted and none of the Chinese food in Rogers Park/Edgewater comes close to comparing to it. Oh, and Gareeb Nawaz on Devon because I can get 3 or 4 meals for $20 and it's walking distance when the weather is nice.

Indonesian Restaurants

My work is hosting some visitors from Indonesia for a few weeks and I would like to offer them restaurant suggestions in case they are homesick. However, the only Indonesian restaurant I've been able to turn up so far is Angin Mimari, whose website is down. I called and got an answering machine message dated June 19th which seemed to indicate they were still open, but have not reached a person. Does anyone have any other ideas? I know nothing about Indonesian cuisine; they are staying at Loyola in Rogers Park, can I refer them to Argyle for common ingredients at a grocery store?
Thanks!

The Top 6 Fake Artisanal Food Ads

My favorite part of the Tostito's commercial is when they say their ingredients all come a farm. Well duh...that's where food comes from. Probably not the kind of farm they're wanting you to picture, but still.

When you first started cooking away from home, what were some of your disasters?

Oh!!! And I just remembered what my boyfriend did, this is brilliant. One night, I made some easy buffalo sauce by melting butter and mixing in hot sauce. I did it in the little jar that marinated artichokes come in the (the 6 oz. ones). We ate some chicken dipped in it (used it straight from the jar mind you), then I popped the fridge. The next day, my boyfriend sprung on me that he needed to take something a potluck, so I made him get started making an easy spinach-artichoke pasta dish that we've made together multiple times. When I came home, he had the jar of buffalo sauce out, about to add that to the pasta. "But I thought it was the artichokes!!" No baby, those are in the cabinet, in a can that says artichokes... thank goodness I came home when I did!!

That's a tragedy because it is SO easy!!! Try it again, you won't regret it.

Try this recipe, it's flavorful and delicious. The feta's probably not great for you but the other added stuff is just veggies. I made it for a cookout and everyone loved them.

Need reco near Aragon/Uptown

I was not impressed with Marigold. Yes, the atmosphere was nice, but to me the food was nothing special compared to what is available on Devon. Not bad, quite good in fact, but not worth the price. Just my two cents.

Worthy Peruvian or Ecuadorian?

Taste of Peru in Rogers Park might be the most unassuming looking restaurant you've ever seen, but it's reputation is deserved, it is delicious. You can find them at 6545 N. Clark. I don't believe they have South American empanadas, but I enjoy the ones from La Unica, which is just around the corner at 1515 W. Devon.

Chicago dining on the water

It's also great, I go all the time during the summer and highly recommend it, especially the falafel wrap (I crave it all winter long!) and the blackberry lemonade.

Skirt steak

My boyfriend's Mexican and his mom makes it by squeezing lemon juice (I know this isn't traditional, them immigrated in the 1960's, I wonder if lime wasn't available widely then?) and pepper on it and letting it marinate for a few hours...serves it w/grilled italian sausage, guacamole, and corn tortillas, and we sort of eat it Indian style more or less, not tacos, just picking up and mixing it together in bites. Also baked potato and this AMAZING pinto bean soup that is chock full of bacon. I don't have a recipe, but you get the idea.
