Need dessert ideas for a burger party

UPDATE: Thanks for the help, everyone! I went out and got a huge cooler with giant wheels, and made salted brown butter rice krispy treats to keep it simple so I, too, could enjoy the party. Next time, I'm going to try those ice cream cookie sandwich ideas ya'll recommended.

Need dessert ideas for a burger party

Sorry, I should have been more specific. The park is a 5m walk from my house and I have an insulated bag for the meat and side dishes, but it's barely big enough as it is. On that note, I think I'm going to give in and get a huge cooler from the store today. I might even go fancy and get one with wheels. I love the idea of ice cream sandwiches, but will they be ok in the cooler for, say, an hour?

Fresh fruit is a great idea! It's so hot, I think a lighter, watery fruit would be a welcome treat, especially after heavy burgers. Might even go with watermelon aqua fresca to serve as a non-alcoholic bev. Thanks for the rec!

I really like the idea of frozen brownies, and the asparagus dish sounds great! Thanks!

Need dessert ideas for a burger party

I'm grilling burgers this Friday at the park for a few pals of mine, and I'm having a hard time coming up with a good dessert idea.

We're having this cheddar BLT burger with Russian dressing http://www.foodandwine.com/recipes/ch... fresh corn salad with bacon, mango and avocado http://clairekcreations.com/2013/06/f... and some chips and dip or potato salad, I think.

It has been super hot outside, and while I feel like ice cream would be ideal, I won't have access to a freezer/cooler. Any dessert suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Also, I'd love your suggestions for side dishes, if any come to mind. Thanks in advance!

Healthy ideas for leftover salmon

I sometimes get an entire filet of salmon from my friend who works for a seafood supplier. I cook half of it and use it in various recipes throughout the week. I blogged about the experience and included a salmon cake recipe that I've made time and time again: http://wp.me/p1Jvc5-ap. I also second the recommendation for salmon chowder. Super simple and a very satisfying. I'd need to know what you mean by healthy (i.e. low calorie, more whole foods) before I could recommend the chowder as a fit for your dietary preferences. Everything in moderation, though. :)

Gut Reaction - Lunch in Oakland or Berkeley this Week

Good to know. I've never eaten a proper meal there, but I've had appetizers with drinks and they didn't disappoint. It's definitely more about the beers and patio seating, IMO. Just a nice place to hang out with friends on warm evenings.

Adoboloco Hot Sauce Is Our Favorite Burrito Blaster

Sorry, but "burrito blaster" sounds disgusting. The sauces seem delish, though!

How long can I keep macerated strawberries?

Oh, man! Hopefully I'll get some more in this week's CSA box. LOVE boozy fruit. Thanks for the pro-tip!

Your anecdote convinced me and I went for it. The preserves turned out perfectly. Thanks so much!

Gut Reaction - Lunch in Oakland or Berkeley this Week

Oh my goodness. So many great places! Some of my faves:

- Homeroom (Foodie-fied mac n cheese) http://www.yelp.com/biz/homeroom-oakland

- Grand Lake Kitchen (New American, great breakfast/lunch spot) http://www.yelp.com/biz/grand-lake-ki... +patio seating

- Portal (New American, daily rotation of very interesting beers) http://www.yelp.com/biz/portal-restau... +patio seating

- Southie (New American) http://www.yelp.com/biz/southie-oakland

How long can I keep macerated strawberries?

I just received a bunch of fresh strawberries from my CSA and was planning to make preserves with a friend of mine. The problem is that I've already begun the process, macerating them overnight, but she won't be available to help until Monday (3 days from now). Should I just go ahead and prepare the preserves today alone, or can I keep them around for a few days?

Backpacking/Camping Post-Tooth Extraction - HELP!

I do have one nearby! I was so hopeful about hummus (as I've been eating it straight from the spoon the last couple weeks), but worried about it going bad on the trip. This is great! Thanks!

Backpacking/Camping Post-Tooth Extraction - HELP!

That's a great idea! Maybe some palak paneer would be good. I'll definitely need to bring some rinse with me...

Backpacking/Camping Post-Tooth Extraction - HELP!

It was, and I'm not on antibiotics. The doctor says I'm healing up nicely. I've been active the entire time (nothing too strenuous) and have been feeling fine. And, it's really closer to three weeks. :)

The only issue is my paranoia about getting small food particles in the socket, so I'm trying to think of creative things that are not too heavy, not too small, nor require a great deal of chewing. I'm thinking crustless bread, nutella - I like the idea of pre-made mashed beans and egg noodles (which don't really require chewing).

Backpacking/Camping Post-Tooth Extraction - HELP!

Hi everyone,

My fiance and I are going backpacking for the long weekend, but I've had a tooth extracted and have been on a soft food diet for about two weeks now. I have been eating well at home (all the cottage cheese, yogurt, ice cream I can eat!), but am really struggling to come up with high calorie ideas for soft, relatively non-perishable food ideas. I'll bring some instant mashed potatoes, but unfortunately that requires a ton of water - any ideas would be GREATLY appreciated. I've searched everywhere to no avail.

Thanks in advance!
