Ain't nothin' but a ghee thing, baby!

My Indian friend would agree that US Indian restaurant cooking is unlike anything that most Indians of whatever region would eat at home.

Then I guess I'll never know. Perhaps they cooked special for her?

My Indian friend who spent the fall semester at the Harvard K School opined that the only local Indian restaurant that came close to authentic was the Royal Bengal near MIT. I hope to get there myself sometime soon.

Ben's Kosher Deli from NYC coming to Boston

Sorry - I was thinking about an earlier deli thread discussing Mike's, which is not kosher.

Ben's Kosher Deli from NYC coming to Boston

Be warned that Rubin's is strictly kosher and (thus) rather pricey. But they've got the goods at their deli counter, including chopped liver!

Ginger Exchange (Symphony)

The problem is that most people are in that area for a show and want to eat dinner first. At a really good restaurant, people want to linger and not check their watches all the time. Two different kinds of clientele.

Dinner in/near Burlington - help for a NY 'hound!

Bedford, the town next door, has Dalya's. Nice atmosphere, always some vegetarian options, frequently a North African dish or two. The menu changes frequently, so what's online may not be exactly what they're serving when you get there.

Lamb Dinner

If you're going as far as Lowell, La Boniche has an excellent lamb shank.

Symphony 8 Space

Is there a restaurant open in this space now? What do they serve? Any opinions, good or bad? The usual conundrum about where to eat before tonight's concert...

Korean BBQ

Another plus for New Jang Su.

If you're at all interested in cooking Korean at home, swing by the H-Mart while you're in the neighborhood. They sell sliced meats and they also have an extensive banchan selection in the back corner past the food court, along with assorted pancakes, etc.

Light Dinner near Tremont Temple?

We're going to a concert at Tremont Temple next week. Any rec's for a pleasant, not over-the-top, dinner nearby? Arriving by T at Park Street, prefer to walk towards the venue, not away.

Finally! A Terrific Lamb Kebab Sandwich Near Us (Lex/Winch/Wob/Burl/Arl)

The shopping center is at the corner of Woburn and Lowell (Msx Tpk) streets.

The food is halal, fyi.

I second the enthusiasm.

Weekday Dim Sum in Metrowest. Is it Possible?

Scallops & broccoli, with white rice - came with hot & sour soup, which was the only actual taste in the meal and actually pretty good. I wanted fish or seafood and the only other choice was fried something-or-other.

They didn't have, or I couldn't find, any big bowls of noodle soups, etc., which I would have preferred.

Weekday Dim Sum in Metrowest. Is it Possible?

Right you are.

I happened to be in that neighborhood and stopped there for lunch today (Wednesday), and it was standard boring lunch specials. I was hungry, so I ate.

Where to buy cheap chicken fat?

It's so easy to render your own chicken fat! Slice raw chicken skin, and all those odd globs of fat, into thin strips, throw into a sturdy frying pan, and render over medium heat. Pour off the fat from time to time. The last remaining pieces of crispy skin are considered by some people to be a delicacy, variously known as griven, griveness or gribbenes. Others consider them a heart attack on a plate. They are the equivalent of pork cracklings.

Save your bits of fat and chicken skins in a freezer bag for more efficient batch-processing.

Same is true for duck or goose, although you would more likely roast the bird and save the drippings.

Drink in Inman area/Muqueca

The portions at Muqueca are very generous. We tend to think Chinese-style when ordering, e.g. one muqueca and one stroganoff to share, perhaps with an appetizer.

If you want to save room for Christina's, you might order a Moqueca Completa with an extra side of rice, plus an appetizer and a salad for the two of you.

Their Juice Bar smoothies are very tasty as well. You really can't go wrong.

Bombay Club now in Burlington

I also enjoyed the lunch buffet this week, and found the service quite acceptable, but a buffet doesn't require too much staff.

Looking at the dinner menu, I'm in no hurry to pay Harvard Square prices at a strip-mall in Burlington.

Time will tell.

Ghee in Larger Supermarkets

Yes, the Indian stores on 3A north of 128, in the little strip opposite the Burlington H.S. football field, do have ghee and lots of other things. China Merchandise has a huge Indian selection as well. Their ghee is from Canada.

Ginger Exchange (Symphony)

Dropped into this recently opened restaurant, a welcome replacement for Betty's, for dinner tonight. The space has been tastefully redone in deep red/orange and wood paneling. There are a couple of high tables in the front window, then the bar, then the restaurant tables. The menu offers extensive sushi and sashimi as well as cooked food from several Asian cuisines. The beer menu is extensive.

We were very pleased with our calamari appetizer, Korean beef with bok choy, and Shanghai noodles. Overall I wouldn't call it a destination restaurant, but you can get a good quality meal before a concert or play, which is what's needed in that location.

I can't comment on the sushi/sashimi because we didn't order any.

Fun Boston restaurant for teenager?

Another fun, Asian, participatory experience is Beef Seven Ways, a.k.a. seven courses of beef, which is available at Pho Hoa in Chinatown.

You cook several of the courses at your own table - grilling, frying, etc the slices of beef, then making your own fresh rolls with the vegetables and rice papers provided. It's served for two people, but could be a centerpiece dish with an appetizer, entree or or two for a larger party. It's a slow and relaxed meal.

Pho Hoa has a liquor license, if that matters to the adults.

No. 1 Noodle House Laksa Shines

The seafood laksa is also excellent. IMO it's the best laksa in the Boston area. If anyone knows better, please say so.

The Satay Seafood Wonton Noodle Soup is also excellent. When I ate there often, I would alternate. Now that I seldom get there, I stick with the laksa.
