May 2012 Openings and Closings
Any news on Taiwan Cafe? Have they re-opened or set a date to do so?
Surprisingly good Indian food at the Burlington Mall...
I'll join the chorus and say that Gourmet India is my only choice in the Burlington Mall food court, whether for a full meal or a samosa and lassi pick-me-up.
April 2012 Openings & Closings
Any word on when the Taiwan Café will re-open? They were still closed and papered over last Saturday (4/14).
Mid-Priced unique spots in Boston + Cambridge + Allston??
An excellent meal at a very reasonable price is Seven Courses/Styles of Beef at Pho Hoa in Chinatown. About $30 will get you a feast for two that can't be beat. Give yourself plenty of time to enjoy it. They have a liquor license as well.
Moderately priced Passover wines in Boston area
Berman's on Mass. Ave. in Lexington, just over the Arlington line, has a good selection.
Killer Roast Lamb Sandwich - Greek Corner Cambridge
The moussaka has more potato than eggplant, as I found out yesterday. Won't order it again. The avgolemon soup was excellent. My companion raved about her roast lamb sandwich and lentil soup. Weekday lunch special is soup and sandwich for $8.50 and free soup with specialties, such as moussaka.
The Painted Burro
PLEASE, people, give a street address or at least a clue what city or neighborhood you are talking about!!!
WGBH Boston developing ethnic restaurant show
I got that survey and thought all the titles were terrible. None conveyed what WGBH said the program would be about.
March 2012 Openings and Closings
News to me, don't know if it's old news here: Taiwan Cafe is closed. Anyone know the back-story? I walked past last night and the windows were all papered over. I thought I saw a ladder inside.
Neilio's Lexington is a Gem
Neillio's bought Gourmet Farms several years ago, including many of their recipes. The Turkey Terrific was an essential element in the sale.
Indonesian market
China Merch. is mostly packaged foods with a small selection of fresh fruits and veggies. That strip also contains several Indian stores from various regions which also sell some fresh produce. In Waltham on Moody Street the India Market has lots of fresh produce that I can't identify, but I don't know how far beyond India it goes.
Indonesian market
China Merchandise, 120 Cambridge St, Burlington, MA 01803, is pan-Asian and Indian. They have an aisle of Indonesian products. I haven't seen anything like your picture, but you might find the fixings.
The store is located in an L-shaped strip-mall, back in a corner hard to see outbound on 3A from 128. Look for a low brick building on the right with a white fence around the roof, across from the high school athletic field, and turn right into the parking lot just before it.
Sebastian's - any info?
I saw an ad that Sebastian's was opening in Church Park. Their website shows other locations up and running around Boston and Cambridge. Their menu, salads, sandwiches, soups & a few entrées, looks like decent food before a concert or a show.
Has anyone eaten at any of their other locations? Any comments on quality, price (absent from online menu), etc? Considering the lack of alternatives in the Symphony area, is this place likely to make a difference?
Way down upon the Mekong River... a Lowell chow crawl
Pho 88 is at ground level and Priya is downstairs. The only time I went to Pho 88, I went for the Beef Seven Ways. The waitress said they didn't have some key ingredient, so could not serve it. We had an OK dinner of something else.
Our several dinners at Priya have all been tasty and interesting. Sorry I can't recall specific dishes right now.
Quick bite near Symphony Hall
We had dinner yesterday at Lucy's and I am pleased to report that the food remains very good and the service has speeded up considerably.
I must add that we were there around 6pm, with only one other 2-top party, but previously even under similar circumstances service was extremely slow. Let's hope this is a trend!
Dinner before the ballet - near Boston Opera House
And don't forget that the Opera House is a couple of blocks from Chinatown, about which there are many threads available.
Client dinner in Burlington/Billerica area
May I suggest Dalya's in Bedford? The atmosphere is excellent, large country-inn-ish. The food is excellent and there are always vegetarian and other interesting non-meat options.

Need recommendation for Chinese Restaurant in Brookline/West Roxbury
About a dozen of us had their special seafood banquet and loved every bite. They also have an excellent selection of seafood on their regular menu.
Dinner near Berklee Performance Center?
Across Mass. Ave on the other side of the turnpike is Bindhi Bazaar, a very good Indian restaurant, reasonably priced.
Dinner in Newton Centre
The Chinese restaurant at Beacon & Walnut is now under Taiwanese management and called Sweet Potato Bistro. I haven't eaten there yet, but I picked up a takeout menu and it looks promising, with many Taiwanese specialties along with the "standard" dishes.
