best breakfast joint in Toronto?
I like Boom Breakfast on College St. Always delicious!! Its a real neighbourhood hangout and has a lot more personality than any of the chains.
Ottawa Suggestions
Friday's Roast Beef House is a good choice for a traditional prime rib dinner. Domus is a good spot for delicious locally grown food, though we found the service a little snotty. For breakfast, I'd suggest the Elgin St. Diner. Hope this helps!
Ottawa Suggestions Sought
I used to live in Ottawa, but haven't been there for a few years. Siam Bistro on Wellington was fantastic and we ate there regularly. If its still there, which I expect, I'd highly recommend it if you like Thai. Another great spot is Haveli's if you like Indian. Hope you enjoy!
Shawarmas in Toronto
Funny! I thought was the only Ottawan that missed the shawarmas! I've had trouble finding good ones, but recently did have a good experience at the Chef's Door on Winston Churchill in Oakville. Tasted like home! If you're in the west end, I'd recommend dropping by this place.
Best Churrasco Chicken?
I moved to Mississauga recently and while I miss some things about the Ottawa food scene, I do love the Portuguese chicken places around the GTA. My favourite is Brasas Churrasqueira in Mississauga. The only bad part is the line-up around supper time. You can smell the wood fire and roasting chicken all around this building; it smells incredible (must get a little tiring for the neighbours though). Good value too for a quick family meal and way better than the chicken chains.
Thai in Mississauga
Can anyone tell me if any of the restaurants in this thread are "high-end" enough for a nice anniversary dinner. Doesn't have to be posh, just clean and elegant. In Ottawa, the Siam Bistro was perfect for this, but I haven't yet found a similar place in Mississauga. Any help would be most appreciated!
Canoe .. Is it worth it
The meal my wife and I enjoyed at Canoe was truly outstanding and I'd happily pay the price again for a special meal (we went for our anniversary). The view, the service and the meal were truly memorable. The dessert (rosemary ice cream with caramel and rock salt) was the most incredible part! On business, I've eaten at many of the top restaurants across the US and the meal at Canoe outshone them all (maybe it was partly the company though :)
BEST BURGERS IN TORONTO!! ??
The best burger I've ever had was at the Rosedale Diner. Wow! This restaurant takes the hamburger to a whole new level (not cheap, mind you, but good). Burgers are cooked to perfection and topped with some unique and delicious intgredient combos. The restaurant's ambience is also quirky and it makes for a great date dinner. Casual, eclectic interior is warm, but still elegant. I can't wait to go back and highly recommend it.
looking for restaurant for anniversary dinner
If you're looking for something charming and quaint, I highly recommend La Parisienne Creperie in Oakville. Its nothing like Canoe (which I also love) or Scaramouche, but it is like stepping into France for an evening—the real, everyday France where Madame cooks while hubby serves. After dinner, a walk out on the pier in Bronte is a perfect close to a lovely evening. This tiny restaurant only has about six tables, and is certainly not cutting edge cuisine, but it is truly a memorable experience.
