Top Chef All-Stars - Ep. #11 - 02/23/11 (Spoilers)

Good memory, I forgot about that, as a viewer it really was satisfying to see Dale go off on Lisa.

I'm not sure if it even matters if Richard invented the dish or not. Even if Dale is right, that does not mean that Richard knew that information. Dale also uses the word "confessed" more than once. I find that word choice curious, especially if there is not a "chef code." You can call it stealing, not cool or bad karma, but that doesn't change the fact that what Mike did was wrong.

I like his pick too, I've been rooting for Richard from the start. However, I do have to say that Antonia has been kicking it, especially lately. She has been a favorite of mine since her season, and I want her to do well in All Stars. I'm not sure that I would be that upset if she took the title.

I also thought Dale's views on Angelo were genuine. I think some of his past comments, like calling Angelo a mermaid during the fishing challenge, were Dale having a little fun at Angelo's expense. However, in this case, I think Dale was just being honest.

chowser, I think your second paragraph sums up why I like Dale this season as opposed to his season or his appearance on TCM. It was nice to understand the background for the change this season. It's rare to see someone be so open and honest in the press nowadays.

I feel the same way about Dale. I wasn't as big of a fan in his season, and I shook my head at him during his TCM appearance, but this time around I gained a tremendous amount of repect for him. I also wanted him to make it to the final.

There is an interesting article with him on Entertainment Weekly's website, he really goes into detail about how he didn't like himself during his season and how he was determined to change.

Very curious about the reunion show. I am also interested to see if anyone addresses it in their blog.

It also has Mike sitting down next to Richard and saying in the confessional that Richard pisses HIM off! "If you're going to win, be an effing winner! If you're going to lose, go in the effing corner!"
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
There are a couple of things I noticed about this whole scene. First, while Mike is saying this and they are showing the shot of him and Richard sitting at the table, Richard is sitting there calmly while Mike is the one fidgeting. Secondly, when you see Mike in the confessional he was fidgeting and he couldn't even look straight at the camera, or if you will he couldn't look the camera in the eye. Despite what he says, Mike knows what he did was wrong, and I can't wait to see him PYKAG.
Re: Richard, I agree that he hasn't overcome the self doubt back from his season. However, it also feels to me that he is falling into the technique over taste trap. I feel like the past few weeks we have heard him make some sort of comment that he should have won because the technique he used was ahead of everyone else. I really hope I'm wrong, I like Richard and I think he has the potential to win the whole thing. I just don't want him to get caught up in his own head.
I think Blais said food should sometimes be dangerous. Listening to the chefs talk about the QF was really like a psychology experiment. It was interesting to see who thought they personally would be voted either for or against because of their food vs them as a person.
While I agree with everything that was said above, I also think Marcel having fun during the relay came across as childlike. I don't normally think that there is anything wrong with being childlike, but I do think in this case it reinforces the argument that Marcel needs to grow up.
Yes, we had a good laugh over the Penzey's catalog in my house. Not only did they feature the candle salad, but there is a picture of the husband and wife next to the salad. His name is Dick, and, no, I am not making this up.
Very awkward indeed! I did notice that Padma and Katie Lee were never together and rarely in the same shot, not that I blame either one of them.
I also picked up on those two statements, and for the record I would love to see it happen. I can see it now, she helps to unload the truck, which is much bigger than she expected. Just as she finishes,Tom shows up with a Diet Coke in his hand and says "I told you so."
Top Chef All-Stars - Ep. #1 - 12/01/10 (Spoilers)
It's funny, I picked it up the first time I read it, it's amazing how people can react differently to the same thing. You're also right, Elia doesn't come out and say anything, and only time will tell if what I inferred was correct, but I wanted to put a warning on it just in case.
Top Chef All-Stars - Ep. #1 - 12/01/10 (Spoilers)
This was exactly what I was thinking. It is possible to make a name for yourself even if you weren't the winner. In one of Gail's blogs, she now has one at Entertainment Weekly in addition to her blog at Bravo for anyone who is interested, she mentions how the chef world really is a small community. I can't help but think Elia really shot herself in the foot. Since Elia has matured so much since her season, her words definitely not mine, I wonder what she is going to think of her statements 5 years down the road.
Top Chef All-Stars - Ep. #1 - 12/01/10 (Spoilers)
Well she still has the attitude. The gist of the post elimination interview with Elia is her elimination is Tom's fault. Also, Tom is a sellout and hypocrite for doing a Diet Coke commercial. He also has changed since her season, and not for the better according to her, he used to be all about organic and now he's not and his chefs don't enjoy working for him like they used to.
As for the comment about Jen, I'm going to leave that alone because I think there are future spoiler implications and I don't want to ruin it for anyone who isn't into spoilers. Having said that, the article is really worth it so you might want to give it a read when you are at home.
I cannot believe she would talk about Tom like that in the press. I really have a hard time figuring out what goes on in someone's head while they bash a highly respected person in their chosen field to the national media. I completely agree that she needs to grow up and get over herself.
It really made me laugh because she said she had matured, but she apparently found someone else to blame besides herself.
I thought her comments about Jen C. could potentially be spoilerish.
What cookies are you baking for Christmas this year?
The only change I have made is increasing the peppermint extract to just over 1 teaspoon. I personally don't find the cookies dry, and I think if others do they might have cut the cookies too thin or baked them too long. If you're worried about them being dry, you could cut the cookies a little thicker or bake them for 10-12 minutes instead of 15 minutes.
What cookies are you baking for Christmas this year?
I think what you are doing is admirable. I have made these Chocolate Mint Cookies from Epicurious before, they taste like a Thin Mint and are a definite crowd pleaser. The cookies are very easy to make, you just prepare the dough, roll into a log and slice.
Charleston SC Caterers?!
I was married this past year, and we used Cru Catering. The food was outstanding, people are still talking about our food months later. We also used their bar service, and their prices we some of the best in town. I also thought their waitstaff was friendly and professional, plus my contact at Cru was extremely nice and helpful. I also spoke to plenty of other caterers around town so I might be able to offer some more insight if you have specific questions.
