quinoa. I actually do like the taste of it but I'm almost embarassed to buy it because of how tendy it'd gotten. I hate anything with the term 'low carb' in it.

Steel Cut Oats

Not original, but I find when I add a dollop of peanut butter to my oatmeal, it doesn't need sugar. A lot of people like to eat oatmeal savory with a fried egg on top.

Cooking Asian Food

I really love Japanese food. If you like meet you should definately try oyakodon. One thing I really love (though meatless) is miso soup. It's not very traditional, but I like to add a tbsp of tahini to my soup. I usually use 1 tbsp of tahini, 1 heaping tbsp of sweet white miso, and 1 cup homemade dashi. Remember not to boil the miso! For veggies is miso soup, I like cubes sweet potatoes and wakame.

What's For Dinner? Part 84 [OLD]

Not much cooking, but I had canned salmon, avocado, and cucumber wrap. I seasoned the canned salmon with dill mustard, yogurt, lemon juice, and pepper. I also had sugar snap peas on the side.

If I added dried fruit to my loose white tea, would it work the same as other dried flavored teas?

Typical American breakfast foods you don't enjoy at breakfast?

I never eat cereal, literally never. I hate all the doughnuts I've tried to greasy and...doughy? I'm not big on bacon either. I never eat bagels. I usually like toast with avocado, an egg or yogurt, and fruit.

Is it yummy to steam butternut squash? And does it take forever?

Thanks for you advice everyone. I ended up sauteeing with garlic and coconut oil, and spicing it lightly with salt, curry powder, cayenne and Italian parsley. It was very yummy!

Perhaps if they made the legs on the steamer basket longer I could add more water and it wouldn't be a problem....

Is it yummy to steam butternut squash? And does it take forever?

Well in that particular incident I was using a bamboo steamer in a wok so no lid. But before I had the bamboo steamer I was using a pout with a lid and it always evaporated and even burned the bottom of the pot once. I don't know if the lid was tight or not (it's Revereware?)

Is it yummy to steam butternut squash? And does it take forever?

I love to roast my butternut squashes, but I thought I'd try steamed chunks of it tonight instead. I have a little metal steamer basket, I wonder if all the water will evaporate before it can cook proberly? I'm terrified of this now because I used to steam my sweet potatoes and I had to continuously refill the water, and once I checked the water content (it was still there) and I accidentally spilled the semi-boiling water on my legs....

But anyways, if you steamed it what seasoning would you add, if any?

Thank you

Homemade hummus on toasted bread is a really cheap and yummy breakfast. It's really good on leftover toasted baguette, maybe with a few olives and fruit on the side.

Making yogurt in a rice cooker?

I have a Zojirushi rice cooker with a "keep warm" setting. Could I use this setting for the incubation period? I'm not sure if that would be too warm. I also don't want it to affect my lovely rice=)

What's your favorite snowed-in comfort food?

I like to have pureed vegetable soup. My favorites are sweet potato and then yukon/leek soup. I like it with cucumbers on the side and a rice ball with smoked salmon. yum

If I mixed a beaten egg into my rice cooker after it's "done" cooking my oatmeal and left it for a few, would it cook the egg enough?

Thanks everyone. I haven't tried it yet, but I will this Sunday. I have a feeling it will not turn out, but it's worth trying to put my mind at ease

and do you think the taste of the egg would be too evident or nasty when combined with banana and a few nuts...? It sounds nasty but then then you do add egg to cake... I'm just looking for a cheap easy way to add protein to my usual breakfast. Any thoughts? Thanks!

When using a rice cooker (Zojirushi), do you have to let the rice stand for 10 minutes after cooking?

like you would if you were cooking on the stove... Thank you!

What's for dinner. Part XXV

It's very yummy (to me anyway) =)

1/4 avocado
2 1/2 stevia packets
1/2 tbsp honey
1/2 cup vanilla unsweetened almond milk
vanilla extract
1/2 tbsp matcha powder

Blend, then blend in a little ice to desired consistency

You'd think it would be sickeningly sweet with all the stevia and honey, but actually the sweetness is mild (maybe due to the matcha powder)

What to do with DRIED shiitake mushrooms?

I add them to miso soup (other soups as well) and mixed rice. The water you rehydrate them in also makes an easy, quick vegan dashi.

Zojirushi rice cooker- anyone else get little scratches on the menu screen?

Thank you! I didn't see one=(. I don't know what I'm doing but I guess I need to be more careful.
