Mail Order Artisan Products
Hi, I was wondering if anyone could recommend specialty food shops and/or artisans in Mexico that would ship their products to the States. I'm looking for anything from cheese to fruit pastes to chilies to rompope. Thanks for any info!
Best Northern Blvd., Flushing Korean BBQ for First-Timers
Hey everyone, I've been reading a lot on this board about great Korean BBQ in Flushing near Northern/the Broadway LIRR Stop. But I am undecided about which place my friends and I should try for Saturday night. We haven't eaten a lot of Korean food, but are generally adventurous eaters. Can you recommend a place that's good for first-timers, but is also authentic, moderately priced (at least by Korean BBQ standards) and with an atmosphere that's a bit above no-frills (though we're not looking for flat-out upscale here). Thanks for any info!
What's good at Barbuto lately?
Hey, I'm going to Jonathan Waxman's Barbuto on Wednesday...what's good lately?
how are the Banh mis at Paris Sandwich in Flushing?
How do they compare to other banh mis in the city and what is the best type to get there?
Cashion's in D.C. recommendations
I'm going Sat. night...any suggestions? Specifically, how are the goat ribs?
Favorite high end indian or thai restaurant
Given the reasonable prices, it's not quite "high-end," but Rhong Tiam in the West Village has great Thai food (especially for Manhattan) and a sleek, attractive decor
HELP: If you could Eat ANYTHING...
It is--it's a magical concoction:chunks of if I remember correctly, either semi-sweet or not too bitter dark chocolate (it's been about a year since I've had it last), mixed in with mashed up peices of bagels--both the crust and the inner dough. Basically the best chocolate bread pudding ever.
what to order at picholine
hey, does anyone have any recs for an app, entree and dessert (not from the tasting menu or prix fix) to order at Picholine?
HELP: If you could Eat ANYTHING...
breakfast - Uova Modenese (an Italian corned beef hash) from Locanda Verde with a side of garlic potatoes
snack - dumplings from nam zhou in chinatown--handrolled and made to order
lunch - Boscaiola pie from Co.
afternoon treat - a la surena arepa from caracas arepas
dinner - four course prix fix from marea
drink - inoteca liquori has a great selection
late nite - burger from the spotted pig
food to take home - russ and daughters' chocolate bagel pudding

Thanks!
Dublin Eats
Does Dublin have any great cheap eats, especially for lunch and breakfast?
Also, where are some good places to eat near Merrion Square, lower Baggot Street, Kilmainham Gaol Historical Museum and St. Stephen’s Green?
I'd appreciate any recs, thanks!
Great and budget friendly eateries near Rome's sights
My friends and I are broke college students trying to get the best out of Rome for a few days. We love food and are all adventurous eaters who want to experience the best Rome has to offer on a budget. Can you please suggest some great and relatively inexpensive eateries near the following sights. They can be take out hole-in-the-walls too, we don't care as much about atmosphere as long as the food is great.
The Vatican
The Spanish Steps
St. Peter’s Basilica
Piazzale Garibaldi
Galleria Borghese
The Colliseum
La Dolce Fountain
The Trvei Fountain
The Pantheon
Also, are there any good outdoor food markets to check out? I'd appreciate any tips, thanks!
Fleet Street, St. Paul's Cathedral Eats
What are some great yet inexpensive restaurants for groups around St. Paul's Cathedral and Fleet Street in The City of London?
229 Great Portland St. near Marybelone
What are some great affordable sit down (especially for large groups) and take out eateries near the international students house at 229 Great Portland St. near Marybelone--any recs will be appreciated...thanks!!
Must-try affordable eats [London]
What are the must-try affordable (most entrees no more than $20) eateries/restaurants in London? I will be there for 6 months and I want to get the best the city has to offer--from ethni food to signature items...I'd appreciate any and all advice :-)
best books for an aspiring food journalist/restaurant critic
I'm looking for any recommendations except traditional cookbooks--whether it is about ethnic cuisines (I recently read Asian Dining Rules and loved it), cooking techniques, restaurant histories, etc.
Cheap East London Eats and Nightlife
Hey, I wanted to get a rundown on the best inexpensive food and bars/pubs in East London near the London Metropolitan University campus...specifically, what ethnic food is essential to try while in London? And any great quintessential British places that won't break my bank?
Pho on Bell Blvd.
Has anyone ever been to that place Pho on Bell Blvd in Bayside--I assume its Vietnamese food. It has huge windows out front and it's usually pretty crowded inside.
best of Langley Park
I know Langley Park is a haven for Hispanic immigrants, so where can I find the best (and cheap!), most authentic Latin American/Carribean food in the area??
Great falafel in northeast Queens?
Where can I find a terrific Israeli-style falafel in Northeast Queens, Flushing, Jamaica and/or Forest Hills? Moist, fresh, lightly fried falafel in a toasty, warm pita with hummus and crisp chopped Israeli salad/herbs/spices...anywhere??
Visiting from SF, not sure where to start
In Brooklym hit up Brighton Beach for amazing Russian food..it's a bit of a haul via public trans, but it's worth it
In Queens, take the 7 train or LIRR to Flushing main street for great Chinese food...For sit-down sichuan restaurant, Spicy and Tasty is the best, and Joe's Shanghai is good for that genre (soup dumplings!) Also, Ocean Jewels is great for dim sum. However, one of the best parts of Flushing main street is all the little food court malls...go to Corner 28 for Duck buns, Chengdu Heaven stall in the basement food court mall on 41-28 mainstreet for more great sichuan (such as the killer dan dan noodles)--however, all the menu items are in Chinese. Also, you can get awesome scallion pancakes and pork buns at AA Plaza under the LIRR
For great Indonesian, hit up Minangasli in Jackson Heights. Deshi Bryant in Jackson Heights has very good Indian.
The best Italian heroes in the world are found at Leo's LAtticini aka Mama's in Corona
For Nigerian food, go to Testac Grill in East NY Brooklyn
Little Italy
Just north of Little Italy (NoLita I guess--I hate these acronyms), however, is Peasant, which is wonderful. I believe its very authentic Italian and the food comes straight from the wood-burning oven. Very lovely, intimate atmosphere as well, but unpretentious.
best soul food in Harlem
Aside from Rack and Soul or Charles', what's the best place in Harlem for a pleasant, awesome, affordable, sit-down soul food lunch?
bahn mi on Flushing Main Street?
I'm pretty well-versed in the awesome Chinese food varieties offered here, but is there any place to get a great bahn mi, like the one at Saigon n Manhattan's Chinatown?
$10 and under, family friendly, Fresh, Good, Clean, and worth leaving the Outer Boroughs for?
For tasty family style Italian, most pizzas and pastas at Otto (NYU area) are $10 or less.
Corner Bistro (Soho) makes terrific burgers in a cozy, Catcher-in-the Rye type atmosphere
Ino (West Village) is a laid-back, friendly cafe/wine bar with great $10 paninis and appetizers and small plates that are even cheaper
Cafe Habana (SoHo) for awesome Cuban platters and burritos
Caracas Arepas in East Village for awesome Venezuelan fare
Your best restaurant recommendations?
bagels - Murray's, H&H or Kossar's bialys (get a bagel and bialy, which is a flatter, Polish roll--classic NYC)
I second kathryn's Il Lab and grom recs
Dim Sum - if you are willing to go to Flushing Main St., Ocean Jewels is the best, but in Manhattan you can get good upscale dim sum at Chinatown brasserie (though I'm not sure if its off carts) or if you want the authentic, down-home and slightly grimy Chinatown experience, hti up Big Wong King or Dim Sum Go Go
Unusual - Merkato 55 is an upscale pan-African restaurant, but if you want a more humble African restaurant, try Treichville in East Harlem.
Authentic hole-in-the-walls: Caracas arepas for amazing Venezuelan arepas with many varieties. Pinche is a brand new Taqueria, very tasty. Crosby Connection for excellenet hero sandwiches.Hong Kong station for great noodles in Chinatown. Maoz for falafel. Shake Shack in Madison Square Park (the line can take up to an hour though, beware)
Arturo's or John's - quick answer needed
Thanks so much for all your great recs guys...I had decided on Arturo's, and time was a factor and since my friends' mistakenly got off the subway exit at 8th st. and 6th ave instead of 4th st. and 6th ave, we went to john's, which was much better than I remember...I liked their balance of cheese and sauce and although the smoky flavor of the crust didn't shine like Lombardi's and although the sauce wasn't as sweet as some of my fave places (so I guess the pie was a bit bland) it still blew my friends away who are used to papa john's lol.
Arturo's or John's - quick answer needed
so, I have an hour for lunch today in the west village to take two out-of-town friends to the best coal-oven pizzeria in the area...should I bring em to John's or Arturo's? (I've been to John's and thought it was pretty good, but is Arturo's better? And just an fyi, I'd love to take em to Lombardi's or better yet Totonno's in Coney Island haha but I don't have time for that
