Arthur Avenue Experience — Huge Disappointment

Your assumption is incorrect. I have eaten at both Roberto's and Zero, Otto, Nove. I find them to be overly-hyped and just barely mediocre as far as the food is concerned. There's a very good restaurant just across the street from the retail market, Enzo's. It's a simple place but the food is excellent and you don't have to put up with the drama queen, Roberto, who is pazzo often times.

@Spreadingtheglamour...Very well put! My husband and I love the place and have been there twice already in, this, their first week. Try the caponata, it was delicious. We tried two different salads that were amazing too. I'm thrilled that we have discovered a new place where we will -no doubt - become regulars.

This is defintely not a slice joint but instead a sophisticated little gem of a place where you can enjoy a glass of wine served in a proper wine glass and savor the taste of exquisitely prepared food.

The service was friendly and, despite the fact that they had just opened their doors for the first time ever, they did a fair job. Just like a fine wine, the service will improve with time. The food was exquisite, not just the pizze but the other small dishes as well. This will be my new "go to" place to have a quality bite to eat when I don't want to cook at home.

Italian- Arthur Ave vs. Brooklyn

I couldn't agree more with scpizza as I have eaten at Roberto's quite a few times returning only with the hope that my last disappointing experience may have just been a fluke. I've read quite a few good reviews so I kept going back to see if I was just having a stroke of bad luck but no, it's more than that. Roberto's is mediocre at best and sometimes it's really bad. It's definitely not worth the wait! Stay in Manhattan for dinner and go to Arthur Ave. on a Saturday afternoon to shop the great food stores there. Roberto's is a lot of hype or, in other words, a lot of hot air!

Arthur Avenue Experience — Huge Disappointment

Arthur Ave. is not about restaurants. Instead, it's all about food shopping and bringing home the right ingredients to make a beautiful meal. The feeling of tradition is palpable inside of the retail market where customers who have been shopping there for years are still being served by the same family members whose grandfather or great-grandfather founded the establishment. The people who came here from "the old country" have brought more than their dreams and aspirations. They've brought some of "the old country" to Arthur Ave. where it has been embedded and remains to this day. Some people just don't get the place but I feel fortunate to be among the many who find shopping there a priviledge and a joy.

arthur avenue

I love Arthur Ave, have been going there since I was a child but....I've been to Zero Otto Nove and was very disappointed with the food. The place is nothing like any small trattoria I've ever seen anywhere in Italy but rather it reminded me of Disney's Epcott Center. You can see what they were trying to achieve with the cheesy decor but all they had to do was to keep it simple and to serve good food. I prefer the food served at Cafe del Mercado or Mike's Deli inside the reatail market. The decor is non-existant but the food is good and it is absent of pretention. Besides, what could be better than having a bite to eat surrounded by all of the glorious food on display in the market.

Arthur Ave...Bronx

In my opinion, the best pizza in the area is in the retail market at Cafe del Mercado. It's not a fancy place to eat but I have a slice each and every time I shop on Arthur Ave. I was very disappointed in Trattoria 089 and would not go back.

Arthur Ave...Bronx

Anyone who says that Arthur Ave. in the Bronx is over-rated is not a foodie and simply doesn't get it! Arthur Ave. is the real deal for food lovers interested in buying good ingredients for making that perfect Italian meal. I've been going food shopping there since I was a little girl with my Grandmother. Now I shop there with my adult daughters who "get it" and love it.

Borgatti's pasta in the Bronx--question about price

Borgatti's ravioli are simply the freshest and the finest in the entire New York Metropolitan area. These tender ravioli have been enjoyed by my family for generations. The fresh pasta at Borgatti's is also excellent.
