Burger and Fries in SF, $10?
Citizen's Band's burger during lunch was $10 the last time I went. It came with an enormous mound of house made fries. One of the better burgers in the city.
frozen egg roll
i made some egg rolls way back and froze the leftovers. can i just fry them up or do i need to defrost them first? the filling is already pre-cooked but the skin is not.
Healthiest top 10 fish
yes sustainable and healthy as in low in mercury and other toxins.
i eat fish probably 1-2x a month and i know that is not enough. my family has a history of osteoporosis and my understanding is that a diet high in fish will help as i get older.
it's been really confusing trying to navigate the fish aisle. finding something that is local, sustainable and economical so that i can eat it more frequently. i'd love to eat wild salmon all the time but at $15-20 lb that's really not feasible.
Healthiest top 10 fish
What's the healthiest and eco friendly fish to eat today? Can anyone give me a top 10? I'm trying to incorporate more fish into my diet but get confused with mercury levels and sustainability issues.
Downtown San Francisco
Recently had dinner at Citizen's Band. I really liked this place. Had a real Brooklyn vibe to it. Young hipster staff churning out elevated comfort food. I shared the cheeseburger and fried chicken with a friend. One of the best burgers in the city, better than the Bauer lauded Marlowe's burger plus it comes with the most ridiculous amount house cut fires, crisp perfection. The fried chicken although perfectly crispy and moist was a little under season for my taste. I'd come back for the burger and then try the mac and cheese which I saw a lot of people ordering. Wine and beer only at this place and not exactly downtown SF location, since it's on 8th and Folsom. You'll need to cab it coming from downtown.

Where is the best pho around? SF/Oakland or South Bay?
my favorite is pho an sen in oakland.
and i get the pho tai chin.
the bowl is huge and piping hot and has a rich broth and only $6.50. this place really made me love beef pho. i've only liked chicken pho before trying the beef pho here.
cash only and most of the customers are vietnamese. also only open for breakfast and lunch so don't come here after 3pm. and lunch time can get crowded.
their chicken pho is really good too.
Best neighborhood for restaurants?
Sorry if i offended but I don't think seoulqueen is looking for "decent" eats. I was basing my suggestion on some of the tid bits of info she provided which made me to think there were more similarities between us (5'1 female, safety concerns, etc.). In which case if someone told me to stay in MV over SF and I did that during a short stay I'd be disappointed.
Best neighborhood for restaurants?
Stay in the city and if it's me I would stay in the Mission. There's Bart, Muni and better chance of grabbing a cab in this neighborhood. I don't get the Mountain View or even the Palo Alto suggestions. Do you enjoy suburban life and strip malls? Do you want to get into your car every time you want to get a bite to eat? Also, what's nice about staying in the city is that you can really extend your mealtime adventure. If you're in the Mission you can get started on happy hour, have a cocktail and app at one place, have your meal at another and choose to have dessert somewhere else. If you were in Mountain View or Palo Alto that would be harder to do. You can also choose to eat much later since restaurants are open later in the city.
And if you want a less hectic city life, than my 2nd recommendation would be Rockridge, where I live. It really offers the best of walking and driving lifestyle with plenty of great restaurants and markets near by.
favorite Thai in SF downtown/Chinatown?
I eat here at least once a week. I go to the Ofarrell St location, right next to Macys. I usually come here for their pad thai or one of their noodle soups. I work closer to Oshai but find Oshai to be bland and over priced. It's definitely not as good as Thai House Express but hit's the spot when I'm craving thai food and most of their menu items are under $10.

Dinner party for 8 - my first!
This is my fail proof, make ahead, awesomely delicious braised short ribs recipe from Mario Batali.
http://www.mariobatali.com/recipes_shortribs.cfm
I usually serve this over polenta or risotto.
when far from home, what foods do you miss/crave the most?
korean food. my husband is not korean but even he misses it. when we come home from vacation anywhere (except ny or la), we get korean food. kimchi chigae for him, yuk ghe jang for me.
what do you prefer that most foodies would scoff at?
A1 steak sauce.
I've gotten better where on a nice juicy rib- eye i won't put the A1 but for most steak cuts I prefer to have A1 on the side.
Do you have a Chinese food guilty-pleasure?
Fantail Shrimp.
I've never seen this in the west coast. Actually don't know if this is still a chinese take out menu item. Does anyone know? You eat this with duck sauce, also a condiment never see in the west coast.
Great roast chicken in SF?
i love the roast chicken at range.

Dinner this week end on Grand or Piedmond Ave in Oakland
Grand Tavern has awesome cocktails. Haven't tried their food though. What I've done is gone to Boot and Shoe for dinner and walked over to Grand Tavern for drinks afterwards. I did not like the cocktails at Boot and Shoe.
On Piedmont Ave, I've started at Adesso (they make a great greyhound) for drinks and apps and headed over to Dopo for dinner. You can put your name down at Dopo and head over to Adesso and they will call you when your table is ready.

Throwdown: Toaster Oven vs. Microwave
Microwave.
No toaster oven but have a toaster. Thought of getting a toaster oven forever but kitchen's so small no place to put it.
I don't think I can give up my microwave though. I use it everyday. Mostly to heat up frozen rice, milk for hot chocolate, water for tea and in general leftovers.
Kid-friendly in the East Bay for a large-ish group, early dinner on a Monday
dopo is a great option too. the owners have kids. i've seen the chef carrying his baby daughter around in the kitchen. the last time i went i took my 3 year old. he ate cheese pizza. it's not a spacious restaurant but i've always seen a large party eating there. it's very family friendly and in my opinion they make some of the best pasta in the bay area. better than oliveto, delfina, a16 and spqr and quince.
Una Pizza Napoletana (very long) review
i have to totally agree with this review. went last night. arrived around 5:30. no wait to get seated. 2 of us ordered the margherita and the ilaria (Smoked mozzarella, fresh cherry tomatoes, arugula, extra-virgin olive oil, sea salt).
the pizza comes to the table hot, which i love. honestly, with the margherita i could really taste the individual ingredients. the buffalo mozzarella was meltingly creamy and gorgeous and the olive oil which dripped on the plate, i sopped up with my crust. however, the crust was very doughy in the center, kind of undercooked. there was very little to no crispness on the bottom at all. i don't like the bottom to be all crispy. i like the combination of crispy, chewy and obviously some wetness but it was all doughy.
will i come back again? yeah, if someone really wanted to try it but not on my own volition. we got seated immediately, but that doesn't mean you'll get your pizza soon. he makes every single order so by the time the waitress took our order, we had to wait almost an hour to get our pizza.
i have to admit, i love his passion and dedication and i give respect to that.

I'd recommend Marzano in Rockridge. Near Bart, good walking neighborhood, opens at 5, great happy hour and they have a communal table that can accommodate your large group, although you might want to call them in advance. Also, super kid friendly.

Looking for three suggestions - dinner w/parents, romantic Berkeley bar, and Union Square weekday breakfast
For italian I can suggest Pazzia. My husband took his parents there for lunch and they really enjoyed it. Good food, good portions and in that dollar range and I think you can get seated quickly. Nearby is also Zero Zero which Bauer just gave 3stars! It's focus is on pizza but I believe they have no pizza options as well. Another place, my husband was thinking of taking his parents but they had not started lunch service then. I've been, casual atmosphere and awesome pizza.
A non-italian option that is a little more than your price range but I think the parents would enjoy would be town hall and kokkari. Generous portions, lively atmosphere and in general an older crowd. We've taken our in laws there and they've enjoyed it immensely.
For union square brunch options, I would recommend Cafe De La Presse or Canteen. They both open early so if you get there early enough, I doubt there's a wait.
For romantic wine or whiskey bar in Berkeley, nothing comes to my head but if you're up for heading to Oakland there's a new wine bar near Jack London worth checking out, Encuentro Café & Wine Bar. And ofcourse, close to Berkeley but in Rockridge, a great french bar/restaurant, A Cote, is definitely worth a visit.

best authentic indian food in the bay area?
I love their lamb vindaloo and chicken curry. Their chicken tikka masala is very dry and bland. Also, if you ask it for very spicy, they will definitely make it spicy. We do take out here all the time and its nice to have a reliable Indian spot so close to home.
My first foodie adventure in San Francisco
i've always enjoyed my meals at town hall. my friend recently went and raved about the ribs and said the accompanying corn bread was the best he's ever had. haven't been to absinthe but i think range has the best food compared to town hall and canteen. and imho i think they have the best roast chicken in sf.
Holiday dinner for about 20+ - Oakland/Berkeley/SF Downtown
slanted door and spruce has a private room. and i've been to a work dinner for about 20 people at ozumo as well which we enjoyed. it was a fixed menu but open bar option.
Disappointed with the Beef French Dip Sandwich at Philippe or Am I Missing Something?
i was not impressed. i don't get it either. i agree, it must have something to do with nostalgia.
Need help on best cheap eats & bars for 2 visitors please!
another place to check out would be hogs and rocks. great drinks, beer, cocktail and wine and the food is great too. loved the tomato salad and their mussels in chili sauce. all their food is under $20. most of their specialty cocktails are $7 and you can get wine by the half glass.

Top 5 Egg Dishes in San Francisco?
My favorite egg dish was the wild mushroom and goat cheese omelet at the now closed Citron.
How much do you all spend on food? Groceries vs. Dining out?
thanks everyone! i keep hearing, oh, we don't spend more than $300 a month on food! glad to know that's not the case for a lot of folks.
i've been trying to keep the food costs to less than $1000 a month for 2 adults and 1 toddler. this includes groceries and dining out. it usually averages $1000 to $1500 a month. i'm gonna blame my husband who likes to drink (30% of food expense is his alcohol) and my toddler :P. he doesn't eat too much, but there is a lot of "convenience" shopping plus i spend a lot of $$$ on his organic fruits.
