I'm looking for a place in Manhattan that's good to meet friends for espresso, preferably organic. Any recommendations?

I'm going to be in the DC area (and also around Vienna, VA) and am looking for really good vegetarian Indian food. Could anyone recommend some restaurants in that area?
Thanks.

Sweet Purple Potatoes

I just posted a few weeks ago asking the same question because I was getting them in Chinatown last month, but wanted to see where I could get them now. Good to know. They're amazing! They're also called Hawaiian purple yams or Japanese Yams (but not the white ones with the dark skin, although those are really good too).

korean bakery

thanks everyone for the info! i actually remember that the wrapping on the cake said koryodong. it was a mocha cream cake and was really excellent- it had VERY little sugar, and that's what I like (very hard to find with american cakes). i'll definitely try paris baguette. the website looks really good!

by the way, do you know if they use white yam in the sweet potato cake, or is it american sweet potato?

green tea

Thanks. Which tea shops are good in the east village? I've tried the teas at Porto Rico and like their silver needles, but haven't been crazy over any of the regular greens.

green tea

I am trying to find a truly excellent organic green tea (preferably loose leaves). Some friends brought me back green tea from China that is really amazing, but I would like to find some that is just as good AND organic. I've tried all the boxed ones at Whole Foods, etc, but have not found anything great. Mostly they are too bitter. I want something very rich and strong, but not bitter. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Recent Artisanal visits?

I've been there recently for lunch and everything was exquisite. The cheese dishes are out of this world and I love the atmosphere of the restaurant. I can't comment on needing a reservation....hopefully someone else will be able to. In general, I would highly recommend going there. Also, get the cheesecake for dessert!

Best places for cheap, unique and good desserts

Veniero's has very good Italian pastries in Manhattan (especially the Italian cheesecake)...although, better is at Villabate in Brooklyn (worth the trip). For French desserts I like Balthazar bakery, and for American desserts I like Amy's Bread, Billy's, and Two Little Red Hens.
