Graduation lunch near Izod Center
When my husband graduated MSU at Izod we went to Bella Napoli in Clifton for lunch. It was a nice option. We reserved a table in advance for right around the 1:30 time frame. Once the ceremony was over we sent one car to the rest. while the other car waited and gathered the graduate.
Anyone know where I can get burrata cheese in New Jersey?
The new Costco in Marlboro is carrying a large tub of Bel Gioioso brand.

Need a place for 3 couples meeting in DC for a weekend
My husband and I will be meeting up with 2 other couples for a weekend in DC. We come from NJ, KY and WI. Each couple has been charged with selecting a dining place and paying for it. So far I believe Martin's in Georgetown has been selected and the other couple going with seafood at a location still undecided.
I would like a place with solid food, good cocktails, not a small or loud place, that takes reservations. We also have a gluten free person among us so need to take that in to account.
I have been looking at Brasserie Beck but not sure on that one.
We are staying around 14th and H so a walk from there would be great but no required. We can cab or Metro.
We are open to most cuisines. Not looking for a high end, 5 course type of place. No one in this group is interested in that for this particular trip. Just a good night out with a chance to catch up with friends.
Can anyone offer any ideas? I know this is a sort of vague request.

Weekend in NYC - where we went
Just back from our weekend in NYC to celebrate my husband's birthday. Thanks for all the tips I collected here. This is what we did.
Friday
We were staying at 39th and 8th so we took the #1 down to 23rd and made our way to Eataly. I had wanted to go for a look around to see what this place was all about. A bit confusing to figure out what is what here but we got with the program eventually. Was hoping to have a drink here but the temp. inside was nearly unbearable it was so hot. So we bought some dry goods and made our way out. Mario Batali was walking around with, I over heard someone say, his wife.
Our Friday night dinner plan had been up in the air but then I saw Bobby Flay's RW week menu at Mesa so we decided on that since it was the same area that we wanted to be in. Since we got out of Eataly sooner than expected we found a nice bar at Steak Frites on 16th to enjoy a few beers.
Mesa was good and a good value but it didn't wow me. We had been here several years ago and it felt like the exact same menu. Nothing new. But it was good and worth the vaule.
Saturday was my husband's birthday and we were seeing Driving Miss Daisy on 45th so I made a brunch resv. at Marsielle for noon. Invitied my father in law to join us from Staten Island. We really enjoyed the food here. Service was a little spotty and it was VERY busy. But the food was really good. I had asparagus and goat cheese omlette, FIL had the burger which he enjoyed, husband had the sausage and egg scramble. Husband started with soup but no spoon came with it. Took a good bit of time to get someone's attention. Also, drink refills were needed for a long time. However, FIL only drinks coffee and raved about it. It was very good coffee here. Would choose this place again.
Birthday dinner was Sat. night at Keen's. We really enjoyed this meal. Sat upstairs, not sure of room name but right in front of a piano. This was a first time for us at Keen's. We started with shrimp and crab cocktails. Then we had porterhouse for 2 and we had plenty left over. Sides were creamed spinach and carrots. The carrots were delicious. Both dishes were. Also note the bread and butter service was quite delicisous as well! I could have made a meal of those rolls with a salad and called it a day. But of course I didn't :)
For dessert I had butterscotch he had hot fudge sundaes. We should have shared.
It was a lovely evening with professional but not over bearing service. Would be willing to recommend Keen's to anyone visiting NY. We really enjoyed it.
Thanks for all the helpful posts on this board. I'm always marking places to try in the future.

What to order at Keen's steakhouse?
Thanks, Roz! I came across your photos when I was looking around this board for Keen's information today! I think my husband will enjoy this meal.
You're right about Sat. night. Judging by Open Table they are pretty well booked for the evening. Perhaps best to just go with the seating flow on this first visit.
We are heading in Friday mid day and seeing Driving Miss Daisy on Sat. afternoon. Should be a fun weekend!
Appreciate the feedback.
What to order at Keen's steakhouse?
Will be dining at Keen's Saturday for my husband's birthday. I did not request any special seating area, should I? We have never been so thinking I would just go with the flow on that.
Any comments on the wine list here? Is it possible to get a decent/good red for $50 or under?
Thanks!
Coal, Coal Fired Pizza, Manalapan
most other meatballs I've seen/had the meatballs were sliced.
we have eaten at Solo but not in quite a while so I shouldn't comment. it was always the kind of place where we'd "run in" before or after this or that. Not a place we really set out to go.
Coal, Coal Fired Pizza, Manalapan
we took out from here last weekend and found it to be quite good. probably even better if you eat in. we had a musroom pizza and one of the specialty ones with meatballs and something else, I forget now. I really enjoyed that although I found the sauce to maybe be a touch too sweet. The meatballs were crumbled which was surprising.
We'd return here for an easy bite out to eat.
We took a sample menu and I thought to myself "boy this looks familiar" but I couldn't place it. Now I see the SOLO connection, makes sense to me now!
Red's Eats - when does it close?
Anyone know around when Reds closes for the season? Trying to help friends plan a trip and they are specifically asking if this will be open. Their dates could range anywhere from mid Sept to mid October, nothing firm yet.
I'm thinking Reds might be open through Columbus Day but not sure. Anyone know?
Thanks!

brown derby cake
does that have peaches in it or something? we get that at Mazur's in Lyndhurst but that doesn't help you.
Jeffrey's in Westfield
I meet a friend in Westfield from time to time. Where is Jeffrey's?
Anyone know where I can get burrata cheese in New Jersey?
I saw the Bel Giosio brand in Top Tomato, Freehold just today.
Bar Harbor-Mache, Havana, what else?
that looks like a good option. thanks! can't wait to get there.
Bar Harbor-Mache, Havana, what else?
Need some ideas for our 3rd and final night in BH. After Mache and Havana looking for something a little less "fussy" for lack of a better word. A place we can walk in with no reservations. Could be bar/pub food or even a place for a really late lunch. Any ideas?
Thanks.
Looking for a place for a cocktail this evening
We ended up at Langosta for cocktails and fried olives. Will keep these other ideas in mind for next time.
Is that the Tides Hotel in Asbury? Haven't been in there.
Looking for a place for a cocktail this evening
thought of that too but they don't open until 5 which will then make us late for dinner. we ended up making the dinner resv. earlier than planned due to the weather.
thanks!
Looking for a place for a cocktail this evening
It's our wedding anniversary and we planned an evening at the shore - we are dining at Whispers. I had thought we'd be taking a nice stroll on the beach but alas that is not happening this evening! Any place we can have a pre dinner cocktail? I'm blanking out. We are coming from Freehold area. I was thinking Langosta Lounge but I'm open to any ideas.
Thanks!

great to know. we will be up there that week. I just signed up for the website email. thanks!
Restaurant.com Coupons [moved from New Jersey board]
Trinity in Keyport.
There was no management on site that evening so I wasn't about to discuss it with a waiter so I emailed them the next day. I did hear back from the owner that he felt the certificates were causing a disruption to other patrons as peoeple didn't know how to read them and apply the rules correctly. I wasn't thrilled with the response.
The night we were there there were 2-3 other tables occupied (a Friday night) so I don't get it entirely.
The food was excellent but I have issues with the "customer service" there. I will think twice bfore returning. It is not a cheap evening out.

and just to add to that we recently went to use a certificate purchased from here and when we arrived at the restaurant (Trinity) there was a sign up saying they were no longer accepted. Pretty poor policy on Trinity's part if you ask me since the GC says it doesn't expire. However, I made a casual comment about it on Rest.com's Facebook page and they contacted me privately and they offered to replace it for me. GREAT job by them!
Driving from Wells to Bar Harbor - a place to stop for lunch?
I imagine we will get on the road around 9 or so. We are driving from NJ and will take the over night stop in Wells at my sister's place and then take a leisurely drive to BH. I did mapquest and it looks like the highway route takes you inland and the coastal route will take us through Camden, etc. I imagine that takes longer but might be more pleasant. We're up for that route if there's a worthy stop. I've only driven as far as Camden in the past so don't know much beyond that.
Not sure was LA means above?
Driving from Wells to Bar Harbor - a place to stop for lunch?
any ideas for a place worthy of stopping along the way? We will be in BH for 3 nights so don't need to get all that way before we stop for lunch.
Any fare is good for us - doesn't have to be lobster. It will just be myself and my husband traveling.
We won't be in any rush so if it's off the beaten path that's ok.
Thanks.
Cocktails at a museum?
Thanks. Have friends coming in to town and thought this might be an interesting idea for meeting for drinks. If we were to do the Met any suggestions for a casual dinner near by? Can't walk too far as one in the group isn't up to it, but we could cab somewhere.
Thanks for the replies.
