I made the meat lasagna this weekend, just amazing. I absolutely love the Teriyaki Chicken Lo Mein. It is absolutely delicious and easy.

Hot Dog cooking/preparation/topping(s)...Your favorite way?

I only buy Nathans or Hebrew National. Potato buns, gently steamed. Grill or griddle the dogs. I like them two ways.
1. Yellow mustard, just a bit of sweet pickle relish and minced onion.
2. No bean chili and minced onion.

Hubby likes spicy brown mustard, cheese, chili, onion all together. Son likes bare naked dogs.

Your tried and true Cook's illustrated Best recipes.

I don't have my cook books handy, but I mainly cook out of the America's Test Kitchen Family Cookbook. Out of that book come most of our staple meals. I love their all American beef chili, ranch chili, tacos, meatloaf, chicken piccata, and so on. I love Cooks Illustrated, I really learned to cook from them. If not for them, I would be relying on convenience foods still.

Looking for a great appetizers for baby shower...

I have two great dips I make often:
1. Pepperoni Pizza dip I cook the pepperoni on paper towels in the microwave to remove some of the grease before making the dip.

2. Buffalo Wing Dip

Both of these dishes work well, can be prepared the night before, and are excellent with assorted crackers and breads.

Cooking Task You Detest the Most?

Only outside using the turkey fryer base. Usually if we are going to fry, we fry a lot at one time to make good use of the oil, propane and effort. We strain and filter the oil to reuse, which takes time as well.

Cooking Task You Detest the Most?

Visciole is exactly right, but it has to be a glass or metal bowl, no plastic as it holds grease that will make your egg whites limp.

Why Do People Take Photos in Restaurants?

We take pictures of our food at various times. The most recent was on my birthday at a high end steakhouse. My husband and I sat on a banquette and our favorite server asked us if we would like a picture of ourselves. I took a picture of the special birthday dessert they brought because of the way the painted raspberry coulis on the plate. Every year when we visit the food and wine festival at Epcot, we take pictures of all our selections to remember them. During our two cruises in 2008, we took pictures of our appetizers, entrees, and desserts as well as dining companions during dinner. There is a time not to take pictures, of course. I pride myself on perception and am not quite obsessed enough to take pictures in an environment that is not conducive to it. Many others were doing the same, and if I were ever asked not to, I would refrain from doing so. My camera is 1/2" by 4" in size, black, and small. Most people don't even notice.

"Great" Restaurant Names

In my current location of Central Florida, my favorite is Yellow Dog Eats (a gourmet cafe and wine bar).

In my home town of Amarillo, Tx and the vicinity:
Cattle Call (awesome BBQ)
Feldman's Wrong Way Diner (absolutely amazing chicken fried steak, named after a character in Gilligan's Island)
and the local convenience store chain that I frequented, Toot'n'Totum or as we call it still, Fart and Fetch It
And Bahama Buck's Island Ice (snow cones and such)

Bringing your packed meals to the food court mall

I cannot even imagine eating in a doctors waiting room. I get strange looks for bringing a bottle of water, and I take one of them everywhere.

TOP STEAK IN FLA

My family has been patronizing Charley's steakhouse (on OBT in Orlando) and family of restaurants for 15+ years. They serve dry aged beef in a nice atmosphere for a decent price. We always request Bob as our server, he is knowledgeable and an excellent server. Full bar, incredible wine selection, huge desserts. We recently dined at Vito's Chophouse and very much enjoyed that restaurant as well. But Charley's equals steak to me and is where we are going for my birthday.

Fake wedding cake trend?

Thank you for your refreshing honesty. I am sick of the "Do what you want" mindset that so many people have.

How often do you send food back?

These things go back every time: uncooked chicken (still bloody inside), chicken wings with feathers still attached, less than hot food (usually from a steam tray), overdone steak or pork chops, bad unsweetened tea. We always try to be extra nice to the server and tip the server well regardless.

Fake wedding cake trend?

We had two cakes. The brides cake was a three tier vanilla cake with raspberry filling and vanilla buttercream. The grooms cake was a chocolate sheet cake with chocolate buttercream and chocolate custard filling. They were both excellent. We got them from Publix and were well pleased.

Office potlucks - please explain to an ignorant Brit

Our office (40 people) has three potlucks a year and a catered function. If you do not wish to bring something, you are expected not to participate and seen as a scrooge. We generally have excellent food, we do one as a brunch and one as international themed. The two men in our office who always eat 4 plates bring the least, just enough to get by. Both of these men are in upper management. We have a full sized refrigerator and a microwave. Many people bring their item in a crock pot. I use my crock pot quite a bit and do not have a bad opinion of them. You can cook quite gourmet food in a crock pot. I love potlucks!
