NYC FOODIE AT A LOSS...

Thanks guys. Love Aurora, but everytime I go its pretty packed. I think at 5pm we will probably be ok though. It's between Aurora and Bar Artisanal at this point (because Bar Artisanal is always, always empty).

Ciomar, that's pretty funny. My dad also really can't stand that they automatically bring water to the table because he doesn't like water. He actually seems to think the waitstaff are trying to antagonize them because of it. Will definitely try Piccola Cucina on my own some day soon.

efdee thanks for the heads up on jardin. i only ever walk by in the day time when it is pretty empty.

kathryn, thanks for the heads up on blue ribbon. that would've been my first choice if not for your tip.

NYC FOODIE AT A LOSS...

I vowed never to post a "where should i eat?" question here but I am stuck. My parents are coming from PA for a visit. Tonight on the phone my dad requested a place that is not too noisy, that the table is not too small, that won't mind if we want to linger, and that is within 5 to 10 blocks of the corner of Canal and Varick Street.

I have lived here for over 10 years, I work in the neighborhood and I eat out very often. Still, I am at a complete loss for a Soho-ish spot that fits the bill.

He said he'd be happy to go somewhere expensive if it fits into the criteria above but that means a maximum or $30 for an entree. Nothing too (his words, not mine) adventurously "ethnic". That means mexican, italian, spanish, german, french are ok but probably not indian, thai, japanese, moroccan, etc.

We're not trying to just go to a deli for a sandwich. A real sit down meal with at the very least wine and beer, preferrably full bar. Anyone have any suggestions?

I thought maybe Cupping Room, Mercer Kitchen, Numero 28 PIzza Romana, or Jardin Bistro. If you think I am wrong on any of these, I'd like to know that, too.

Many thanks!

Reunion Party for 30 to 40 people under $40pp Fun Place? Private Room Or Area in Restaurant

Not in your preferred neighborhoods, but Otto, Aurora, Cercle Rouge, Pala, and Gradisca can all accomodate that price and are fun places. Aurora might be a tight squeeze though.

Recs for an adventure on Friday night...

Yakitori Taisho for a rowdy dirt cheap yakitori dinner (asked for the grilled eel roll, it's a special but they always have it) and then Decibel for sake late into the night.
Corner Bistro for delicious burgers, many bars in the area.
Dinner and cocktails at Schillers in LES, again tons of bars to choose from
Tapas and mojito pitchers at Agozar

Looking for a place with good food to watch football

Expensive, but food is decent and you can usually get your own tv at 40/40 club
Stout near MSG also has pretty decent bar food.

Bday Lunch in FiDi on Friday - Please Help!

Would you be willing to head up towards Tribeca? Roc is a lovely spot with inventive italian. Also, Cercle Rouge is always good and they have a back room. Pretty sure they do lunch.

Gift Certificate Recs ($250)

You could always do a BRGuest gift certificate and then they could choose from all of their restaurants. None are super fancy, but all nice. Blue Water Grill, Vento, Isabella's, Primehouse, Dos Caminos.
If they liked Gramercy Tavern, maybe Gotham?
