Return to Jeffery's

Message

We had two (we thought) great restaurants lined up for our friends from New
York for last week end. A friend sugessted Jezebel that I had never been to, but was willing to try evern though I had received mixed reviews. Our other candidate was Jeffery's, which is always excellent--but I had my arm twisted and we decided to tru Jezebel.
We arrived at Jezebel about 8:00 pm and and found the place about half full with a group celebrating a bowling tournament win, kind of looked like the NASCAR crowd, which I didn't expect. After a little negotiating with the waitress, who had to confere with the Chef several times we were able to get seats away from the bowling crowd which was a little loud. We were seated and had to wait about 10 minutes for a server, who finally brought us menus and some olives. I ordered the mahogany chicken with a squash dish and my wife ordered the lobster with a tempting bean based dish. My friends initially ordered the pate and the lamb shank as a main course that I have heard was very good and the sea bass. We ordered wine and waited! Although the restaurant was half full, really just us and the drunk bowlers, it was 30 minutes befor the pate came out. We all fought over the pate, which was very good and a generous serving. The time between our order and the delivery of the pate enhanced the food desire of all of us, my wife said "I would have eaten an old shoe at that point!" We immediately ordered more wine! The main courses finally arrived and were good, except that the lamb was very very salty and the sea bass was over cooked, which is hard to do! My chicken was excellent! We then ordered desert which was very small and a bit of a disappointment. Oh well, we tried! The shock came when the bill arrived over $600, guess it was all the wine! Not a bad place, but for much less I will return to Jeffery's.

Estancia Churrascaria is open. Who'll take the plunge?

A nice place!! It does not compare to Fogo de chow but it is much more reasonable.
I agree with most of the comments and wish that they wouldn't rush the dinners so much. Most of the food is very good, although they hold back the good beef and you have to restrain them back from trying to bury you in chicken and sausage!

The building is odd and has too many tables, but its worth trying!!

Its a great deal and I will go back until they start trying to sell expensive wine.

Jezebel

Well we tried it for the second time, first since the liquor license, and it was different! They had a lovely wait staff that are all gone! (I was told that there was an issue of cash flow problems during the start up) The new staff is fine, but I am sorry to see the others go. We had several dishes that we had enjoyed in the past and they were good but were covered with the same sweet sauce that seemed more appropriate for ice cream. The lobster was just great and my wife loved it, it fortunately lacked the sweet sauce. The sauce bothers me because that usually is the sign of Chef Fatigue. Parind probably needs some help, he is definitely a micro manager and tries to do everything--that is just not possible and may slow down his growth. We were there on a week night with no reservation and there weren't many people there.
Yes, it is now quite expensive and in the $100.00 plus a head glass which is unfortunate, since I'm not sure that it can compete there. We had a nice night, but we probably won't go again!
