Self Catering New Years Eve

Great tip on the fireworks, very much appreciated.

Thanks again for you information, you have saved me from the hassle of running blind to try to find this out myself and given more time to enjoy the other things Paris has to offer.

Taste London Card: any great deals?

I rate the card pretty highly. I had one for the best part of this year but misplaced it & it costs to replace so havent follwed up on it as nearly due to expire ...

Also, alot of restaurants may not accept the card in December as it is a busy month already.

anyway the restaurants that I mostly used it for were local to me in Putney & other West London locations, some places were stable successful establishments before I had the card & continued to be after I had it, so as suggested in earlie threads I dont beleive that it a last ditch effort to save themselves at all - at least not in all cases. Thai Square for example has been reviewed very highly in the past & they are part of it. Old fave near high street ken 'L' are are part & they have had a good following before the card.

My suggestion is to find a restaurant in the area you wish to dineon the tastlondon website, google it for reviews & make a decision that way. In these things there will always be the good with the bad.

Gay Hussar in central london springs to mind ... Good luck

Pubs on Christmas Eve/Day East London and City

I have been doing the same search but in west london. Google hasnt been a huge help in taking me directly to sites that offer christmas day lunch but i did seem to find some options eventually. I found that quite a few youngs pubs are open & serving lunch. have a look at www.youngs.co.uk and use the search filter to selct your area it will bring up the links to the individual pubs, from there you will see if they are open - follow the christmas link & if they have a Christmas Day menu you are in luck.

I have also found the time out website useful by going to pubs listed in the area for suggestions & visiting their websites. http://www.timeout.com/london/restaurants/features/5634/4.html

If you want something a little different - I wasnt able to convince my friends to leave the turkey in favour of some modern indian - however the Cinnamon Club in the city is open. Have eaten there 2x and amazing food & experience both times. www.cinnamonclub.com

Self Catering New Years Eve

We are staying on rue Chappe & looking at the map & nearest Metro I will guess that it is on the Abbesses side.
Thanks Parigi, your suggestions above sound fab & inline with what I was thinking. Bad timing though - it is lunch time & I am stuck at my desk - I, like your friends at the sight of the platter am drooling just at the thought of it.!!

New Years Day Lunch

I too will be looking for somewhere for NY day lunch or dinner so will keep my eyes peeled.

I will be in Paris from the 27th Dec to 02nd Jan & whilst I have put some research into the places that I woud like to dine at throughout the week, I was going to book either closer to the time or even once I arrived as my intinerary is slightly loose. As souphie has advised above, that some places will be closed - I assume that there will still be a fair selection of places open? or would it be recomended to serch a little harder & have a hit list of place that are open perhaps there will be enough around for me to book a few days in advance?

Self Catering New Years Eve

Hello - My husband & I will be in Paris from 27th Dec to the 2nd & will be joined by 6 other friends for NYE. We are lucky to have the use of a friends small appartment in Montemarte & our friends have hired a 3 bedroom appatment near by. Our plan is to dine at the big appartment & then head out for fireworks & join the festivities on the streets & bars.

I am looking for recomendations on any near by food markets that I can buy quality food. My thoughts at the moment are oysters (& perhaps some other seafood) foie gras, quail, cheese, wine & a premade dessert of sorts. would like to keep it relativly simple as I am not sure of what the self contained appt actually contains in the kitchen.

I can pre order the food if needed but would aim to collect & buy on Thursday the 31st if possible. Are markets actually open over the holiday period?

Also, I realise that there are many wine shops located through out the city but I was wondering if there are any larger warehouse type outlets that may offer delivery and perhaps discount on bulk buying?

any suggestions will be much appreciated!
