Small Wedding Dinner Advice Please!
I thought of Kokkari, one of my favorite places. I recently saw a party there in the private room and it looked fun. The private room is right next to the rest of the tables so lots of energy.
Filipino empanadas-- favorites?
I am looking for people's favorite Filipino empanada (chicken or beef) in the SF or Daly City, Penninsula area.
I often find Goldilock's too oily, but I haven't been in a while. Valerio's is our go to right now ( minis) but I would like less crust to filling ratio and to explore others. I also like Auntie Em's but I want more traditional chicken kind. Theirs are cup shaped.
II would like to find a place to buy a few dozen to bring to Colorado as a gift for a group. It will likely be their first time having Filipino empanadas.
Any favorites?
thanks!!
Istanbul - question on some restaurants recommended by hotel
We are prepping for our first trip to Istanbul.
The hotel we are staying at sent us a list if restaurants, and i selected reservations for Hunkar and Kosebasi. Then, one of the staff responded to me these 2 restarants are similar and suggested Surbalik and Sunset restaurant. Does anyone have experience with these?
Also, would like any experience on Park Flora. Thank you!
Bridal shower - restaurant for brunch? Thoughts on Dahlia Lounge?
Good idea... quick question-- is the atrium or sun room still a nice place in the evening? For an early dinner? They have it available in the evenings.
Bridal shower - restaurant for brunch? Thoughts on Dahlia Lounge?
Thank you! Have a call into Cafe Flora. From small amount of info I have, I know cost will be more for the sun room but I am willing to pay more for better food and setting. I feel like I waste money when food is not that great!
I see some iffy reviews on service at Cafe Flora (on Yelp). I don't need five star service but I will be the only hostess from the bunch. Have folks been ok with service there? I am guessing if we get a small room, we will have decicated servers.
Bridal shower - restaurant for brunch? Thoughts on Dahlia Lounge?
hi everyone, thanks goodness I have time! I have yet to contact Cafe Flora. But want to check people's experience with Poppy too? It would be an early dinner vs brunch. I've read some on the board and my best sense is mixed...
[Germany] Munich - short itinerary - critique requested
osho - i can't wait to hear.... I'm a SF hound, going to Munich for the first time in April!
So I am bringing this info! Is there a good place/neighborhood to stay for food options?
Bridal shower - restaurant for brunch? Thoughts on Dahlia Lounge?
Thank you for this ideas so far. I will check them out! Great info on Dahlia Lounge considerations.
Bridal shower - restaurant for brunch? Thoughts on Dahlia Lounge?
Hello - A SF chowhound here.
I am planning a wedding shower for about 20 women in their mid thirties and up (aunts, etc) in May or June. The bride lives in Ballard so plan to have in in Seatte.
At this point I am thinking a brunch (Sat or Sunday). Good food a priority, but a nice setting conducive to a happy celebration is also my priority. I am not thinking "tea" or the likes at this point.
I've contacted Dahlia Lounge. Is the food and service here reliable? The private room looks a little dark but general internet results show positive things. Private room is not a must, but a restaurant that can serve about 20, and has an area for a group.
The Bride is vegetarian, but as long as there are some good options for her, type of food open. Modern to comfort food is fine.
Do people have suggestions on restaurants?
I'd also like to offer cocktails
Thank you for any ideas!
Barrel tasting - advice/info I should know?
Wow... I'm both excited and nervous! One of the reasons we love Healdsburg (aside from the wine) is that it usually isn't crowded! I'm excited. I better spit - or I won't get far! Thank you!
Barrel tasting - advice/info I should know?
My husband and I are going to Healdsburg, CA for the weekend. We've been there and love it, and just learned that it is a barrel tasting weekend. I've never done this.
Is there anything we should keep in mind in tasting/ buying?
Anything else I should know?
We feel pretty lucky, but I'm not sure what we're in for, except for crowds...!
Best Cheese pizzas?
Will Pizzetta make your try list?
Tony's is my current favorite for cheese. While i have eaten in the resto, my favorite is in the to go part.
We drive there even though Gialina is closest to us. Have you tried Ragazza? I hear their pizza is different than at Gialina. They have been too busy for me to get in. Always a long wait.
Best Mexican - Madera
I am going to madera for the first time next week so would love any updates!
What do You Like to Fix When You Get the Munchies?
Oh, becca, this is my all time go to comfort food! From when i was a kid even! Yummy.
Dim sum to go- Bellevue
Hello, SF chowhound here.
We are looking for recommendations for a place to pick up dim sum in Bellevue to bring back to Whidbey. We are visiting Bellevue for the first time. We will be freezing some of the sim
Sum too for my father who lives in Whidbey.
Thanks for any ideas!!
Harriet's Cheesecakes---Sweet Potato Pie Cheesecake---WOWSA!
I am late on the bandwagon too but someone brought this for thanksgiving this year... Loved it too. The textures and flavors...mmmmm.
Gourmet & more - Great new speciality store - Hayes Valley SF.
thanks for the info! checked it out today and I liked the spaece too.
i bought some frozen croissant dough-- we will see. the idea of having fresh croissants at home sounds decadent.
I am definitely going to check out the cheese room one day. there were two people in there today so it looked crowded. would love to hear anyone's experience with the selection.
funny about the macaroon comments. they have a small case there of macaroons.
Tried Nigella Lawson's Chocolate Guinness Cake?
We've made it a couple times (without the frosting) and love it... not too sweet. Guests ask me for the recioe. I, too, though have liked other cakes of hers. Maybe because they aren't overly sweet...
Cleaning INSIDE the two panels of glass on Viking oven door
Yes, I too am eager to hear how this went and if any other tips. I have this exact issue with a Jenn Air oven right now, and have been hiding an evil streak with a dishtowel.
Boxing Room, Hayes Valley
No cocktails when I went probably a month or so ago. We thought this strange but maybe they don't want to compete with Absinthe? Seems that the place and menu calls for mint juleps or something!
Eureka, California — help!
My colleague and I just tried the halibut fish and chips tonight at Lost Coast- and we both loved it! Not oily at all, flavorful, and good pieces of fish. I had no feelings of guilt!
Sunday Brunch at a place that takes reservations
You're a thoughtful wife!
I just want to throw one more in the mix, and it may be out of what you're looking for.
Out the Door on Bush St in the Fillmore area. It's a Vietnamese restaurant but their brunch menu has a range of brunch items. I really enjoy their brunch. Scones, omelet etc. There are pancakes on the menu but not sure it qualifies as simple. It's a energetic place and close to the Fillmore area shopping and Japantown. Anyway, just throwing it into the mix.

Too bad about Foreign Cinema's menu. I've liked their brunch too, but maybe a lot fot their good Bloody Mary's.

Sunday Brunch at a place that takes reservations
I've been to Twenty Five Lusk for brunch (Easter) and Prospect for dinner. My husband and I liked the space at Twenty Five Lusk, but the brunch was just ok. While I haven't been to Prospect's brunch, their food is a definitely a cut about Twenty Five Lusk. Sort of no comparison in my book.

Boston food book or guide?
Great, thanks! The nft and the bar book both fit! Although, they have 2 young kids so the bar book may make them drool..
Boston food book or guide?
hello, a San Francisco chowhound here.
I have friends who are moving back to Boston after living in the Bay Area for the last 6 or so years. If one is available, I'd like to give them a good, restaurant guide/ book to as a goodbye gift.
I know there is a Zagat, but am more interested in others more....
Thank you for any ideas!!
