Craft Cocktails

You ought to try the Sidebar in Silver Spring. It's connected to Jackie's, a really good restaurant. Really good craft cocktails in a beautiful historic space with wood floors. And it's not as expensive as some places. It's just a few blocks from the SS metro station on Georgia Avenue.

Where can I buy blood orange juice, preferably in SoMoCo, NoVa, or NWDC?

They have it at Harris Teeter.

Dickson Wine Bar?

I've never had the bahn mi or food there. It strikes me as more of a place to go for wine or cocktails before a show at the 9:30 club, not an eating type of place. I like the atmosphere but it's more like a bar than a restaurant. Its menu seems kind of limited compared to other wine bars like Ripple or Room 11. No real entrees. I would get maybe a salad and a glass of wine and then go somewhere else for a real meal.

Estadio - opened last week on the 14th St Corridor

Just had dinner and drinks there tonight, Really good. I had the beet salad, the strip steak with mashed potatoes and chimichurri sauce and the ham croquettes and the strawberry gin slushie. Very impressed. I generally don't like Spanish tapas but I thought they had a unique spin on it . Will definitely go back to try more things. But the portions seemed a little on the large side for tapas. I'd like them to be smaller and cheaper so I could try more things.

J & G Steakhouse - total disappointment

Sorry you had a bad experience, but I have to disagree. I guess it depends on what you order. Calling it a steakhouse is a misnomer since it's menu is not limited to or even specialized in steak. Most of their menu is a lot less than $50 and is pretty reasonable for a high end restaurant. I've been there twice and had the halibut which is $23 and was amazing. So I think your review is a little misleading in that it leaves people with the impression everything on the menu is that expensive.
As far as appetizers, I've had the salmon tartare and a ravioli both of which were great. Sorry you had a bad experience, but it's a little misleading based on just eating two things which aren't even representative of the whole menu. I can definitely see why it was rated highly by the Washingtonian.
I guess everyone was different because I found the Source very mediocre. The service was horrible and they charged my credit card twice which I had a hard time getting straightened out. I'd never go back there but I'd go back to J&G anytime.

Gillian Clark's The General Store

I have heard complaints about the service here, but I thought it was fine and friendly. I wasn't too impressed with the actual food. I had the fried chicken and collard greens. It was ok, but nothing impressive. The skin was lacking seasoning. Honestly, KFC does fried chicken better for much less. They are also far inferior to soul food takeouts like the Blue and the White in Alexandria, which has the absolute best fried chicken and collard greens. The only good thing about it is you can have a glass a wine and it has a nice atmosphere which those other places don't.

A Review of Sou'Wester, Chef Ziebold's latest Brainchild

Thanks for your review. I have to say though when I ate there I wasn't that impressed. It wasn't bad but for the price I expected something more original or groundbreaking. I've actually had much better soul Southern food at cheaper places.
So I would definitely not give it as a high a rating as you did. It's also kind of out of the way for most people. I guess if you are staying at the hotel, it's fine. But it's not so great you want to make a special trip to go there in my opinion.

Lyon Hall

Has anyone been here? It is the new French bistro from the owners of Liberty Tavern. I went there last weekend and loved it. It has a wonderful atmosphere and great service. The food is really well done, nothing too surprising or original but well executed. They also have a fantastic beer and wine list.
I had a beet and arugula salad and the steak frites, both of which were lovely.

Rogue States - And Yet Another Burger Place

I love this place. Part of it is it's convenient to both my office and my apt. It's on Connecticut Avenue near N Street.
The burgers are a little more creative than 5 Guys. I liked the curry burger. They also have wasabi mayonnaise for your fries.

Adams Morgan: Solo Dining Favorities?

I like eating at the counter at the Diner. They don't really have a bar, but lots of people eat solo at Himalayan Heritage. Their food is amazing. HImalayan food is similiar to Indian. Overall though Adams Morgan is not really a culinary hotspot. It's more for bars. Those are the only two places I eat in Adams Morgan regularly solo or with groups.

The Source's Happy Hour Deal

The new menu sounds good. I was only there once ages ago when they had the old menu which I wasn't too crazy about. Maybe I will give it a try.

Siroc vs Bibiana

I much prefer Bibiana. Yes, Siroc is quieter and more low key, but I found the food very average and tasteless there. I went there once and I'm not in a hurry to go back. But I've been back to Bibiana. I find it much more innovative and interesting.

Kora in Crystal City, Disappointment.

I'm very sorry to hear about your bad experience. But I just got back from having dinner there tonight and I thought it was very good. There were many diners there. I had a beet salad, a pasta with shrimp, calamari, clams and mussels, and most delicious of all a dessert of chocolate covered cream puffs. I also had a delicious pomegranate martini and a glass of one of my favorite wines. I had no complaints and the service was wonderful and friendly.
Perhaps you got them on a bad night due to the snowstorm.

Boycotting PS7

Weird. If this person was so upset about the service, why didn't they complain to the manager when they were in the restaurant instead of posting online? If they did that, the manager would know at what table they were at and who was their server.
I was at PS7 once a long time ago. I was not terribly impressed by their food plus their prices were a little high for me. So I haven't felt compelled to return.

Need A Relaxing Dinner On U St

You might want to try the new Bistro La Bonne, which replaced Axis in the 1300 block of U Street. It has very good traditional French cuisine and friendly service.

Acacia Bistro

I just went here this weekend. So excellent. It's actually in Van Ness though. I had the endive and radicchio salid with apples and walnuts and lamp chops with green salsa as well as a wonderful glass of Pinot Noir. Wonderful addition to the neighborhood which is otherwise a culinary desert.
I guess upper NW is becoming the new hot spot. Between this and Masala Art, I am jumping on the red line more and more. Dupont Circle is supposed to be cool, but its restaurants leave a lot to be desired!

Soul Food

Blue and the White in Old Town Alexandria on Wythe Street and Route 1 for fried chicken and collard greens. Oohs and the Aahs is so overrated. But the Blue and the White is the real deal! I live near U Street but my family lives in Old Town and we always stop at the Blue and White. It's the best!

Westend Bistro recently?

I've eaten there but not recently. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't amazing either. I expected more for the price. The dishes to me seemed a little simple and stripped down. Nothing that I couldn't make at home myself. If I pay that much, I want something a little more elaborate and creative.
If you're in that neighborhood, I would try Ris around the corner. So much better.

Best Pizza in DC Metro Area

I really love 7H near Eastern Market. I love the pie with roast peppers and proscuitto.

Ris

Has anyone eaten here yet? It's in the Ritz Carlton in Foggy Bottom. I had a late lunch there last week. They serve food all day long so it was nice to find a place open when I got off from work around 3p.m. I hadn't had time to eat lunch since I was very busy at work.

The service was delightful and friendly. At least three people greeted me and came over to ask me how the food was. The waiter recognized me from another restaurant where he had previously worked at.
I had their Asian based soy glazed salmon with soy broth with rice and pickled beets. Really yummy and unique.
I also had the butterscotch pudding which was also delicious.
I highly recommend it.

Eatonville: U Street

I've eaten at Eatonville two times. I wasn't very impressed either time. I wish it was better because it is right around the corner from my apartment.
I had the fried chicken. I've had much better chicken at take out soul food places at a much better price. Now maybe it's just not my thing because I'm not too big on Southern, Cajun and soul food. I like Asian and Italian more.

The cocktails were good though.

DC - One Night Only - What's THE Restaurant?

I would recommend Sei, the modern Japanese place near the Verizon Center on 7th Street NW. It has not only fantastic sushi, but also interesting small plates including one of the best tuna tartares I have ever had. Great cocktails as well as really cool all white decor. Michelle Obama was seen eating there. Obviously she knows the place to be.

Heritage India - given up

You ought to try the new Masala Art near the TenleyTown Metro. According to the Post, it is owned by a former manager of Heritage India and the chef also worked there. I ate there over the weekend and the food was really good as was the service. I also went on Saturday when it was snowing and raining, and it was very busy! So you know, it had to be good! They have the classic Indian things, but they also have some different unusual dishes, too.
I love Rasika, but it is too expensive for me to eat there regularly. Indian is my comfort food; I like my Indian restaurants casual and not too pricey!
