Where to eat in Montauk/Amgansett? Please help.
Because they probably bought mass-produced rolls. I doubt they're baking them themselves, or even getting them from a bakery.
Where to eat in Montauk/Amgansett? Please help.
A funny thing happened to us last week at Duryea's. We went for lunch and ordered the lobster rolls. They were good, but I think there was dill or some other herb in it and I prefer plain mayo (and not too much of it). It didn't come on the traditional hot dog roll, but a more substantial roll that I thought was good and would be perfect for something like bratwurst, which overwhelms hot dog rolls. So after eating, my husband asks the counterperson "where do you get the rolls for the lobster roll" and she tells him "it's a secret; we are famous for our lobster rolls." So he tells her, yes, it was very good, but I just want the name of the roll. She tells him to come back and have another. So after telling her he would love to come back but since it took us more than 2 1/2 hours to get there, that wasn't going to be happening at time soon, she still refused to tell him who makes their rolls!

I didn't care for the pimento cheese either, but my husband loved it!
Quartered Chicken Breasts
This is a minor rant, and probably a silly one at that. Years ago (and I don't mean that many years ago!) I was able to buy quartered chicken breasts. Usually four to a package, and they always had the wing portions attached. Now it seems like the only bone-in breast cut is split breasts, which are usually gigantic. I don't know what size chicken they're getting these from! So I end up with leftovers, which is fine, but I was wondering if anyone else has noticed this.
If you like TJ's Tarte d'Alsace, you will like Tart de Champignon
Maybe I didn't cook it properly, but the crust never got totally crispy. It was very limp and soggy, esp. in the middle. Has anyone else had this problem?
Trader Joe's Holiday Items. What are you looking forward to? [old]
I've always bought the cranberry panettone and I like it. However, I've never had any panettone from any other company so I can't compare.
I even used it last year to make french toast.

I bought a box of these also last week after tasting them. I agree - they'll be perfect appetizers for the holidays.

I should check out that oven next time I'm in Costco buying my $200 toothpaste ;-). Not necessarily for the rolls but just because I could use a new toaster oven! The other thing I thought could be the problem is that it said to let them stand one minute and then remove, and they probably ended up in the pan for a few minutes as I was trying to get my poached eggs out before they overcooked!!

I made these this past Saturday morning and left them out for the hour before as the instructions indicated. After baking, they wouldn't release from the pan without prying and they tasted almost like they were not cooked, even though they were. Will not try again.
