How/Why did you pick your screen name?

I love the book and the movie was beautiful. I'm actually writing my thesis on it and other food related works. I'd be fascinated to know people's thoughts, actually...

Top Chef - Las Vegas - Ep. #12 - 11/18/09 (Spoilers)

false. when rick moonen (i think it was rick moonen...) guest judged, he said he knew how hard it was and how time was their trickiest ingredient or something to that effect.

although if you mean that TCM was filmed before but aired after, then maybe you are right. either way, i do agree that this season was full of exceptionally talented chefs.

my turn to take lunch to the office - what to serve w/ clam chowder?

I'm pretty passionate about this, since this is a food of my childhood. serve caesar salad.with fresh croutons and homemade dressing. to me, this is the quintessential pairing. the tangy caesar really cuts the creaminess of the chowder.

How/Why did you pick your screen name?

I am so jealous you have a chinchilla. I love them and I want one.

My user name is lame, it's in reference to the book like water for chocolate. esperanza is the narrator's mother. It means hope.

Harrison's @ State College, PA?

so you're right about the cozy thai, barring their papaya salad they aren't spectacular. after reading your review of chopsticks express, however, i am going there as soon as possible. and i cannot wait.

Downtown Philly

So, this is not really helpful in the sense that they serve neither soft pretzels or cheese steaks to my knowledge, but if you are looking for a great bar, you should check out the South Philly Taproom. They have an absurd number of premium beers they rotate and it always makes for a fun night. The ambiance is great and their grilled cheese is so so good.

Harrison's @ State College, PA?

I hear Harrison's is good, as far as state college fair is concerned. It did not originally start out as a hotel restaurant; he relocated. As far a zola is concerned, I wouldn't waste your money. On both occasions I ate there my entree was sub par. I'm talking fishy, over cooked salmon and enough sugar on a pork loin and cabbage situation that it made me ill. It's pretentious and relies to heavily on the fact that it's the only fine dining place downtown. For more unique finds, check out the newly relocated cozy thai bistro, herwigs and websters book cafe--especially the yemaya melt and their spicy lentil soup. and even though its a chain, five guys is the only consistently delicious food i've eaten in state college. Otherwise, I'm excited to try crisp--a salad and juice bar on the corner of pugh-- and the korean/thai/vietnamese place they are opening in the former cozy thai location.

seeking new restaurants in Bucks County area

Rouget is quality. I definitely prefer it to la stalla, which I believe is closing. The saloon is great; don't let the name fool you it's really delicious. I also like duck sauce in newtown. It's not incredibly fancy but the ambiance is unique and their wanton soup is to die for. Their eurasian cuisine is delicious too. it's byob and the only place a crave when I'm away from home. I also second Lily's: their breakfast brings back childhood memories, but i haven't eaten there in years.

Chile-Cilantro Hash Browns

without even knowing it, I practically made this for dinner tonight. I fried the potatoes with onions, garlic, jalapeno, mushrooms and cilantro. added a little beer, curry and ginger . it was delicious with some apple cider vinegar...slightly more complicated, but very yummy.
