What We Ate in Nashville & Beyond, Pt. 2

You should both do yourself a favor and skip Noshville. The coffee is vile, as reported, but the service is also miserable and the food quality has dropped considerably in recent years at both locations. If you are looking for a great breakfast, try Athens Family restaurant on 8th Avenue/Franklin Road in the Melrose area. Great food, great prices, friendly attentive service and the coffee is good and strong!

sushi in Nashville?

Since returning home from four years in the land of sushi (LA), I've tried most of the highly recommended sushi bars in Nashville and can recommend only Koto. The new location on Union Street between 4th and 5th is spectacular. While the variety of fish is sometimes more limited than other sushi bars, it is only because Haji-san serves only the freshest, best-tasting fish. If it's gone off, he won't serve it, honest, and I'll take his fresh fish over the lengthiest list of cream cheese-loaded, mayonnaise-covered, surimi-filled rolls at the other sushi bars mentioned here any day, and I live just three blocks away from one of them. Remember that over-sauced sushi generally is a mask for not-so-fresh fish and good luck!

Sushi Spot on Ventura, and Corbin, Tarzana

I went to Sushi Spot for the first time this week and have to say it's some of the best I've ever had. Everything was super fresh and the rice was deliciously seasoned and warmed. Fantastic meal!

Visiting LA for the First Time

I just want to second the recommendation for Nami Sushi....I too am a big fan!

Exciting New Places In Sherman Oaks/Studio City?!

And I'll third it!

is barbeque in the Valley a contradiction in terms?

Boneyard also makes some of the best brisket I've ever had. I could cut it with a fork and it melted in my mouth. Also sampled the pulled pork....fantastic, the chicken....also yummy. And the sides we ordered (beans, slaw, collard greens and fries) were good too, although the collards were a bit sweet for my taste. To top it all off, they have a fantastic beer menu and our service was prompt, helpful and friendly. Chef Aaron even stopped by for a chat. It was my first trip there but definitely won't be my last.
