DNC barbecue sauce competition
I completely agree that the meat is the important thing - and any vinegar and pepper sauce helps while any sauce with sugar in any form (including blueberries) detracts. They should have held the convention in Lexington. Or Goldsboro
DNC barbecue sauce competition
A panel picked 3 official barbecue sauces for he Democratic National convention that will (proabbly) be held in Charlotte. All three are off my radar. Thoughts on the sauces (sauces only, no politics, please)?

June in Paris - Pls help comment/critique
That ccertainly is true for a long stay and certainly for residents, but for a mere 5 days....I might skip the macaron...and go with 2 rather than 3 courses at lunch
Solo first trip to Paris, where to eat in around the 4th arrondisement?
I have had great meals at le dome du marais, bofinger and le grizzli, all in he 4th, but the Metro gets you around town very well, Paris is extremely walkable, and there are literally hundreds of outstanding restaurants in the city. And you can get in most places at lunch
And I've alway meant to try Benoit
Grocery Stores in Bham
You will miss the produce at HEB. because it is a Texas chain, it is able to rely on in-state produce in season. And it can be so, so inexpensive. Publix, the Pig and the rest - including Whole Foods -- rely much more heavily on produce shipped from far, far away. But Alabama has great produce at farmers' markets and roadside stands. You'll be there in tiime for the Chilton County peaches and you'll be able to get muscadines and figs for a song.
Birmingham also has great seafood, trucked up daily from the Gulf
A culinary hint: when you go into a barbecue place and don't see a picture of Bear Bryant, you probably should leave.
Foodies For 5 Days in Paris
That's a very broad question - one that is asked frequently with few replies because Paris has far more wonderful places to dine than you can experience in a year, much less 5 days. And in any major city, there are a multitude of authentic experiences. Can you narrow your inquiry by your location, budget range, daytime activities, etc.?
A useful starting point is http://parisbymouth.com/our-guide-to-paris-restaurants/ - but there are many, many more great places to eat And don't be disappinted if there are other English-speakers around. I imagine 80% of the posters on the board end up at Chez L'Ami Jean when we are tourists in Paris - and see the lovely post on touristy Bofinger
Denver - dinner in the Highlands
Thanks! I'll check these out.
A friend mentioned Z. Any good?
Denver - dinner in the Highlands
Good question. We're pretty open. We don't have dietary restrictions, although some but not all of us wll want lighter options (seafood, dinner salads). Something in the moderate-inexpensive range would be good, but I don't think a hole-in-the-wall will do for dinner -- Lunch, definitely, dinner, no.
48 hours in Kolkata
We've had very little Indian fod in peoples' homes. Our experience is mainly US and London. I would say pretty adventurous as to food, less so as to cleanliness..
Denver - dinner in the Highlands
This seem sto be an area that is chnaging. What are the best bets for a weeknight dinner?
48 hours in Kolkata
Where to eat? The hotel is out by the airport, but I plan to go into town.
Bhubaneswar eats
I looked up dalma and there seem to be four with the name spellled identically. Where is the good one? I saw that tripadvisor has four locations. Could it be a chain now?
estes park,co
good breakfast at the Bighorn, and the Estes Park Brewery was a good place to have a beer and watch the elk, but the food was pretty bad. Do a lot of hiking and you'll enjoy the food
Bhubaneswar eats
We're headed to Bhubaneswar. Any restaurant or must-see/do recommendations?
Which "outer" arrondisement is best for good restos?
Le Chemise is a bit north and well worth the trip. I enjoyed the dome du marais, just off the Place, a coupl eof years ago, and once had a very nice, very unhurried meal in Bofinger (in February). The Bastille market is to die for, as are the food shops along St Antoine. Next time I'm getting an apartment
Cheyenne, Casper, Billings, Medora, Rapid City June 14-28
We're headed to unknown territory in June, and welcome your advice on places to eat (and to avoid) and information on local specialties. We have no dietary restrictions and we're open to a range of prices.
Birmingham Area Spots For A British Boyfriend Visiting First Time
The Bright Star is a great idea - and you should take a trip to Tuscaloosa and get ribs at Archibald's (and see the art museum -- it's a shame he'll leave before A-Day). Visitors from abroad prefer American wine and beer while they are here -- and boubon, not scotch. Like everyone else, they like to immerse tehmselves in the local culture. They like huge shopping malls. He'll love 5 Guys and lunch at the Farmer's Market and Mexican places on Valley Road and Q& S. I would take some day trips - one up to the mountains (state park near albertville or mentone), one to the black belt, one to the art museum in fayette, one ot a lake if you get a hot day. Listen to some bluegrass.
First trip to St. Thomas US Virgin Islands
We only had lunch on St Johns -- got a very good burger and a couple of ice-cold Presidentes at Skinny Legs in Coral Bay.
First trip to St. Thomas US Virgin Islands
We stopped by there. didn't make it to Duffy's Love Shack, and didn't get a chance to try Taco Hell - great name. (I suppose rather than "get a chance" that should be "take a chance"
First trip to St. Thomas US Virgin Islands
We just got back, and had a very good meal at Coco Blue in Red Hook. I had a whole sannpoer grilled, adn it was very fresh and delicious - and a lot fo fish. Others alos were well pelased. They are very up front about what is local and what is not.
We also ate at Mim's which is about 2km away from Red Hook, and I had a great piece of grouper and a huge caesar slad (plenty for 2). The lobster was well prepared. There was a very interesting sauce with the coconut shrimp.
We aso ate a Jiggie's which is a sports bar. Food was ok and a good break, price-wise. It is right on the beacjh, as is Mim's (you park in the same lot).
Help please! (menu translation) [moved from France]
It sounds delicious. I beleive that "porcini" woudl be more recognizable to English-speakers than cepes, and that the 6 gateaux are cakes - or pastries
Headed to St. Kitts
did the beach wash away? why is it no longer "viable"? Too crowded?
Dining recs in Latin Quarter
We had a good lunch this summer at Le Reminet and saw that they were very accommodating to a couple with small children.
St. Thomas in March
We'll be staying at the Marriott in March and I welcome updates on local restaurants. I'll be paying for four adults, so I'm also very interested in the best local supermarkets, produce markets, and most of all the best place to get fresh seafood - preferably right off the boat.
Santo Domingo in February
In Santo Domingo -- Adrian Tropical on the water is pretty good, Pat'e Palo on the Plza Espana is really good. A shrimp and chorizo appetizer there was sensational
We ended up going to Playa Bonita -near Las Terrenas -- for three days and had great meals. Casa Grade is a lovely restaurant/inn run by a very friendly French couple. They do great things with local ingredients. The seafood is morning-fresh, so that the ingredients in cazuelas, etc. change subtly every day. Just a hundred yards down the Atlantis is run by a former chef to Pres.Mitterand. Again, the food was fresh and delicious - very nice wine. good bread and pastries at both. There are several other options, including grills at each end of the beach where local fishermen cook up whatever they caught that morning If you want a quiet, beautuful beach with great food, Playa Bonita definitely is the place to go.
In Samana - where the whale-watching definitely is worth a side trip - we ate lunch at Bambu, which was pretty good.
How soon should I reserve? Are the restaurants, I have listed all similar in cuisine/style?
drop la regalade st honore and add the original location
for more modern try jadis - or am I so 5 minutes ago?
Can we eat well in Paris without reservations?
I walk to try to burn off may last meal and prepare for the next. Preparing for the next is always easier
DC & Chevy Chase recs for Feb visit with teens?
Seafood will not be local this time of year. DC is great - really great-- for crabs and crabcakes in season, but they could be from anywhere this time of year. And if you are from anywhere near the Gulf, you are likely to be disappointed in DC seafood - other than sushi at Sushiko.
The kids will be allowed in the bar at Rosa Mexicano and all other restaurant bars in DC. I'm not sure that the Chevy Chase one i sopened. There's one a couple of blocks north of the Mall/Archives, but to get there you would have to pass Oyamel, which is much more interesting, and Austin Grill - basic Tex Mex and much cheaper.
A very good sandwich place near the White House is Breadline - and it kinda qualifies as a hole in the wall.
In Chinatown, Full Kee qualifies as a hole in the wall. No credit cards, no liquor. Their Hong Kong style noodle soup is the best soup in DC. It's on the eastern end of Chinatown - the part that hasn't been taken over by chains
DC & Chevy Chase recs for Feb visit with teens?
note - tehre is a Capitol Grille right by the hotel, but the one you would want would be near the Capitol. I go there rarely, but every time I do I see at least one national figure
