Cape Restaurant Week

I no longer get excited about restaurant week. Many restaurants have restricted menus for the pre-set price, much like Mother's Day menus. I'd rather order their best stuff at full price.

Dinner suggestions between Providence and Worcester

I'll second Alicante. Good food, nice view. Right on Rte. 16 at Lake Nipmuc.

caterers west of Boston?

Have you tried the Sherborn Inn? You could also try Zebra's in Medfield or Blue Ginger in Wellesley.

Bistrot de Soleil - Cape Cod - Hyannis

We had dinner there two months ago. It was a busy Friday night. The server was pleasant and the food was good. I agree it is a good value. However, the bartender ruined the meal. We could not get a drink. I literally finished my entree before I got the glass of wine that I ordered at the same time as the food. He was too intent on pleasing the drinking customers at his bar, thus increasing his tips. We watched as our server stood at the service end of the bar for 5 to 6 minutes at a time before being aknowledged by the almighty bartender. This happened almost every time the server needed to enter a drink order. When we brought it up, he said it is always like that and that he was actively seeking work elsewhere. On our leaving we mentioned it to the woman who owns the restaurant with her husband, but she didn't think it was an issue.

Where to eat driving from TF Green to Milford, MA (but not Providence)?

It's a shame that your Husband doesn't want to drive thru Providence on a Friday night. The drive on 95 isn't very difficult. Federal Hill has many good restaurants and is easy off & on 95 via the Atwells Ave. exit.

Lunch on 84 somewhere between Hartford and Danbury?

I attended college in Pennsylvania when dinosaurs romed the Earth. During our many road trips we liked to stop at Rein's NY Deli in Vernon, CT. It's just east of Hartford and right off of 84.

Dinner Yarmouth, Cape Cod in October

Lyric & the Red Pheasant are much nicer and more intimate than the Brazillian Steakhouse. Personally, I prefer the Red Pheasant. As phelana indicated, the Ocean House in Dennisport is always great. Another place that I like on the same street as Ocean House, is the Oyster Company, although more casual. In Hyannis, you might like Alberto's or the Roadhouse. Each of these require reservations on the weekend.

Restaurant Week this week on Cape Cod.

We also dined at the Red Pheasant on Friday night. It is one of my favorites. I had the Coq au Vin, as well. Although it was good, it wasn't up to what I've come to expect from Chef Bill. Maybe it was a matter of presenting a menu for Restaurant Week that fits the price point. Maybe it was my high expectations. The rest of the meal was very good, including a nice Oregon Pinot Noir. We certainly will be returning.

Restaurant Week this week on Cape Cod.

The site mentions that the Ocean House will offer this "Three for Thirty" menu nitely during the off-season. As if I needed another reason to dine there.

Huevos Rancheros on Cape Cod - Hangar B, Where Else

My wife & I also had breakfast at Hangar B this past Sunday. We arrived an hour before you and waited an hour to eat. We were served coffee on the deck and were content to wait because the food is so delicious. As we waited, I noticed that they were not seating empty tables as quickly as they could have. I suspect that it was done intentionally, as to not stress the Chef, which is fine with me.

Lyric Yarmouthport...worth another look!

Based on your review, CCG, we will have to get back to Lyric. I haven't been there in over a year. It looks like the owner is working hard to please the patrons. The pictures look great and I am intrigued by the bar menu..

Cape Cod recommendations

Personally, I prefer the Olde Yarmouth Inn over Lyric. Inaho is outstanding, if you want Japanese cuisine.

gluten free fried seafood near Yarmouth?

Although they don't have seafood, IDGY's in Yarmouth is a gluten-free restaurant and bakery. They are in the shopping center at Station Ave. & Whites Path, near Ardeo Grill.

Cape wine store?

Yarmouth Wine and Spirits, which CCG mentioned, is my Liquor Store (I wanted to say "Packy", but that would date me). They have a very large wine selection and their prices are great.

New Italian Restaurant in Dennis Village?

Both. They said that the waitstaff was disorganized and the food was mediocre. I plan on trying it later in September, only because it's close to the house.

Your suggestions for Falmouth/mv

Labor Day is a very busy time on the Cape, even more insane on the Vineyard. The restaurants will be slammed. Check past posts on this board for Falmoutharea and Oak Bluffs/Edgartown on the Vineyard.

Pecorino Romana. My brother ate there. He had a bad experience. There are reviews on Yelp.

Alberto's in Hyannis: off night or downward trend?

We had dinner at Alberto's this past Saturday night, and found it very good. The service was perfect. Not too attentive, but our waitress was there when we needed her and she knew the menu and specials quite well. The food was excellent. I had the veal saltimbocca and my wife had the sirloin steak. Quality of the ingredients was as expected from a good restaurant. The beef was of high quallity. The portions were fairly large. Prices were very fair, as well. The week before we ate at the "new" Il Maestro. No comparison. Alberto's was much superior in all categories.

Alberto's in Hyannis: off night or downward trend?

I try to not judge restaurants on the Cape by what goes on in July & August. Everything seems to get better after Labor Day.

Mid-cape (?) rec'ds wanted!

Can't go wrong following CCG & phelana. They know the mid-cape as well as anybody. For casual, I'd like to add The Skipper. It's right across the street from Parker's River Beach on South Shore Drive. The ocean views from the second floor deck are really nice. The food is above average and the drinks are good. Main Street in Hyannis has many good restaurants and the sidewalk scene in the evening is quite entertaining.

Cape Cod - Grocery shopping/farm stands/speciality stores etc.

I recommend that you go to the beach at Cahoon Hollow in Wellfleet. The highlight will be happy hour at the Beachcomber. As far as groceries are concerned, there are small markets everywhere on the Cape.

Beaches Cafe- Dennisport / Cape Cod

My wife and I had lunch at the beach bar two Saturdays ago. It was warm outside, but we were seated at the bar which is shaded. It is a nice setting, steps from the beach. There is a glass wall protecting the bar from the wind. The lunch menu was limited, but sufficient. My wife had the five napkin burger, which she enjoyed. I had the Italian sandwich. The bartender recommended that I order it as a panini, making it easier to fit in my mouth (apparently the standard roll is very big). The panini was grilled in a press, but the sandwich was still very thick. The cold cuts were piled high. I don't know how I'd have eaten it with the roll. It was all good and we will return, soon. The only distraction came from some families with small children that were sitting around the adjacent grass courtyard drinking beer out of their coolers in front of their hotel rooms and talking loudly. They seemed to be together in a huge group. I hope that this was an unusual occurrance.

Cape Cod restaurants nobody EVER talks about.

We ate at the Paddock 2 weeks ago. Very busy. Food was very good, worth the prices. Nice wine list. We were seated in the Dining room on the right side of the restaurant, but would have prefered something more cosy. Probably sit in the bar on another visit. Celebrated our Anniversery at the Captain Linnel House a few years ago. I thought it was very good, as well. More quiet and cosy than the Paddock. Again, good wine list. Very good service. It is a bit off of the beaten path, though. Drank with friends from Cotuit at the Kettle Ho, but did not eat. Mostly locals.

Thanks, CCG, for the review. It will makes my decision easier with only two excellent pizza options.

Best Pizza on Cape Cod?

My wife and I finally tried Palio last weekend. We had the antipasto, Broccoli Rabe pizza and a bottle of very good Italian red wine. We both thought it was fantastic. I prefer a thin crust that is a little well done. The prices were very reasonable. After reading CCG's review of Columbo's, I'm in a conundrum. I'll have to try them soon. I can't imagine the pizza being better than Palio, but I will keep an open mind. Also, is Pizza Barbone open on Main Street?

Best bbq for greater Boston backyard wedding?

If you don't check-out Dale Bishop's "Pig Picken", you'd be making a mistake (www.pigpickin.com). We've used them for 2 graduation parties and they were great.

BEst Meatballs (Italian) Needham, Newton, W. Rox, etc

The only good meatballs are the ones my wife, mother & grandmother make. I've never had a good meatball from a restaurant.

Rehearsal Dinner - Holliston MA

Take a look at Truffles Grill & Wine Bar, just over the town line in Milford. I've been to a private party there, and it is very nice. Beautiful restaurant with great food. Very close to Holliston. It's better than the Sherborn Inn. I like Stone's, but Truffles is more upscale.
