Hero Certified Burgers....What the $^%#!!!!!

It depends what time you go. I've waited in line with 3 or 4 families in front of me. I go because it's one place my muslim son can get a burger. Although, I read that some Lick's have halal burgers.
For me, I'd rather eat at home. Way too expensive.

The Elusive Big Xtra in Toronto!

Not sure if you're still interested, but the Rotten Ronnie's inside the Heartland Walmart around Mavis and Brittania still serves them. My daughter's favourite as well.

made-from-scratch lemonade or iced tea- 2012

@TexSquared - ITA with the "Nestea" style iced tea...I cannot drink the stuff. I make gallons of sun tea myself in the summer and it peeves me to no end that I cannot order it anywhere...and I can't afford Ruth's Chris.....but I'm off to the US for the weekend, and will enjoy all I can over there!!

Best Fish and Chips - Mississauga

@Stephen - ITA - we used to go once a week before we moved. It was always excellent, and their family pack used to feed the 5 of us for a great price. I imagine it's a bit more expensive now.
@girlstar - see above - once we moved, The Fisherman's Place became my next favourite. Always good sized portions, and the folks were very friendly.

I now live in a 3rd Mississauga location (don't ask), and I frequent Homestyle Fish and Chip, which is at Creditview and Eglinton. They have lunch specials and the Basa and Chips is about $4. Good size portion of chips as well.

NEW CONSOLIDATED Thread: Best Chicken Wings in GTA

@TexSquared - Amen. ITA.

I used to enjoy the wings at The Pump on Rathburn for many years. Reason being, I could get mine un-breaded while the rest of the fam enjoyed the breaded version. Visited last week and couldn't have been more sad. The wings looked more like quail wings than chicken wings.

Anywhere in Toronto come close to 48 cents/lb ($1.06/kg) for frozen basted turkey I paid in Buffalo?

Bigtigger,
You're right - A utility turkey is one that is missing something - could be something as small as a wing, or could be missing a leg, or as you said a lopsided breast. Personally, I don't care for the pre-basted birds anyways - way too much fat and such.

Not sure if all NoFrills have them, but Creditview and Bristol had utility turkeys for 77 cents a lb today.

ISO - Christmas Dinner (with an added complication)

Sorry - my question was just a little muddled. What I'm looking for is a place to have a standard turkey dinner for the 5 of us. If they've got a veggie burger for my son, then we're good -or he'll just have to eat salad.
I'd prefer not to drive into downtown Toronto.

ISO - Christmas Dinner (with an added complication)

I would like to take my family out for Christmas Day Dinner. There are 5 of us, plus my sister. The added complication is that my son is Muslim, so there must be something for him to eat (probably nothing Halal, but veggie perhaps). Yes, I know he doesn't celebrate Christmas, we just bill it as a family dinner out . Although, I was able to buy a Halal turkey for Thanksgiving, but that's another post. Any ideas? We live in Mississauga.

Brampton or Mississauga, where is the best old fashioned fries and gravy?

It was open when I passed by at noon today. I turned left on Steeles from Trafalgar towards Milton, and darned if there wasn't another fry truck there!

Rotel Tomatoes in Toronto?

I've looked and never seen them. I stock up when I head to Niagara Falls NY to shop.

You like the fries at Costco? I love me some fries, but I won't eat them there. They look and taste like frozen "coated" fries, if you know what I mean
It may be a ways out, but there is a "parked" fries truck on Trafalgar (near Steeles? I think). I think it's actually Milton, and it's beside a donut place, but can't remember if it's a Coffee Time or Tims. Fries seem to me to be fresh cut, but I can't vouch for the gravy.

Apple Fritter Search!

Haven't tried those yet. Is it real whipped cream ?? I hate the faux crap that so many chains use. I may have to take a trip out today!

5 Guys coming to Erin Mills Town Centre

I was there at 3:30, so thought I was early enough to beat the dinner rush. I was also peeved because as I mentioned, they only had one cash open. 2 employees came in (while I was lined up) and put their own orders into the other cash. First I thought, OK, l they are starting their shift soon. Nope. I was waiting for my order and they were talking and goofing around with all the staff doing the cooking, and were still doing so after I left.
While my hands were clean, I still didn't like putting them into a bag of hot fries to rummage around for the burgers. God, I'm getting and sounding so old...

5 Guys coming to Erin Mills Town Centre

Well, I was not impressed. The fries were plentiful, I will give them that and not oversalted. However, the burgers are put in the bottom of the bag, the fries are in a cup and then an extra portion of fries are thrown in the top of the bag. Hence, you have to dig them out and put them on a napkin or something in order to get your burger out. No gravy as was stated previously. Burger was just OK, kind of bland to be honest. Bun was totally crushed and paper thin. I asked for BBQ and pickles on the side, but didn't get either. Lined up again after I finished to get a burger to go, but only 1 cashier for a giant line, and then the debit machine broke. Put my order in and waited 10 mins for a "little" (one patty) bacon burger. Sigh. I had high hopes. Will give it one more shot to see if anything changes.

ISO Date squares

Thanks, I may have to take a field trip on the weekend. They sound scrummy.

ISO Date squares

I had the best date square ever at Ste Anne's Spa several years ago. Oh my gravy (tm Cord and Jet). I cannot find anything close to it, anywhere. I tried making them myself, using several different recipes, but they never turn out properly. It's like there isn't enough butter because the top is just like dry oats instead of being more compacted (?).
I have tried the Hot Oven at Cloverdale, they were good, but I'm open for any suggestions in the Missisauga area.

Apple Fritter Search!

There's a bakery in a plaza at Eglinton and Renforth (where Bert and Ernie's is) called Perugina's. They have apple fritters that look like the one's you're hunting for. Very yummy.
