Vegeterian...
Just "vegetarian" is kinda hard. Do you want diner food? Asian? Continental? Middle Eastern? Indian?
Counter is a really good organic, vegetarian wine bar kind of atmosphere. A little pricey, but a nice night out.
Candle79 and Blossom are two "upscale" vegetarian restaurants. Both really good.
Lan has awesome vegetarian Vietnamese food.
Kate's Joint is great for greasy "diner" food. Greasy and gravy-ish. You just have to know what to order (hint: it's not the veggie burger. Ugh.)
Red Bamboo is vegetarian "soul food" at it's finest.
Pukk - great thai food!
And my very favorite is the Vegetarian Dim Sum House on Pell Street.
Dinner at "One if by Land..."
Thanks! Grammercy Tavern was definitely a choice, but didn't have any seatings available on my birthday.

Degustation looks great! And they can accomodate my reservation. I am going to pick one. Thanks for the reservation.
The reservation guy didn't seem to know a lot. Do you think Degustation can accomodate a pescatarian?
Dinner at "One if by Land..."
Yup. That was kind of my thought process. While you may appreciate amazing flavor combinations - that's not whats going to wow him here. I consistently here about great service, which he is much more apt to notice. He was blown away by a meal at "Butter" during Restaurant Week, and honestly? I was really just looking for anything to stay away from or run towards.
If you have a better suggestion for a romantic place for a birthday dinner at about the $75/pp price point without wine, I would certainly be open to suggestion. I just didn't think we wanted another "where should I go on my birthday" thread.
Edit - The other thing to mention was, this was one of the few restaurants that had a selection of vegetarian options so that I am not stuck with "the one dish they have." Please keep that in mind when offering suggestions.
Whole hazelnuts?
I have been able to find them at Trader Joe's in Queens. I assume the Manhattan location may have them as well. Probably cheaper, too!

I am a long-time foodie and trying to convert my boyfriend. He is taking me here for my birthday. I am pretty excited. He is a hardcore meat eater (with mac and cheese tastebuds) and I am a vegetarian/pescatarian. We are thinking about doing the 3 course prix fixe. I wouldn't mind the tasting menu, but since he doesn't drink, and we don't really share dishes, I think it would be a waste.
Any suggestions or advice?
Vegetarian Food in S. Florida?
Hi! I will be visiting my dad in Weston in a week or so and would love to expose him to some good vegetarian restaurants near where he lives. Except - I don't know of any!
Can anyone suggest some veg-friendly fare in Weston/Ft. Lauderdale/the surrounding area?
Best Ice Cream in Queens (other than Eddie's)
I have to second this! They specialize in unusual, but their "sane" flavors are incredible too!
(They are not open Friday nights/Saturdays)
Sushi Yasu in Forest Hills
Sorry to bump an old thread. I had lurked here a bit, and saw this recommendation for Sushi Yasu. I literally live up the block - so I gave it a try (the awning makes it look like just a fish store, despite the fact that it says "Sushi" on it.)
I loved it. His fish is fresh, Yasu is a riot and his assistant always hooks me up with tea, salads and fresh fruit for dessert. I started bringing all my friends. I went about once or twice a week for the past month.
The service is slow. Definitely. But - its just one guy, and he's entertaining, so I cut him some slack. Last night was the last straw.
Myself and two friends came in, and sat down at the bar. There was only one other guy there, and he was leaving, so we were in luck. All of a sudden, a family of four comes in and I knew that was the end of us. After about 10 minutes, he takes all of our orders. Then, someone comes in for take-out, he takes their orders and gives it to them. A half hour later, we each get one roll. Some one else comes in for take-out, he takes their orders and gives it to them. He makes more rolls - leaves them unserved. Gives one or two to the other party. Does another take-out order. Sits another person. I get a roll, but not the other people in my party. Someone gets a miso soup. It goes on and on like this for TWO HOURS! He was just totally in the weeds. We didn't order anything complicated. Two rolls each, maybe? (and spicy tuna - nothing crazy.) After two hours, and we are still missing two rolls, we ask him if we can just go - don't worry about the rolls. He tells us that we are just missing one roll, and he can make it now. We show him that we actually ordered two, but it doesn't matter - we just want out (if he only thought we were missing one roll, WHAT was he waiting for? We were right in front of him at the sushi bar). He rings us up quickly and barely apologizes.
I am so sad. I mean, I am upset about the bad service, but more sad that this awesome place really isn't so awesome. Two hours is insane. I will go back, but only as a take-out, because obviously - take-out gets precedent.
And believe me, before this? I was a big tipper at this place. Even when once I was asked to tip (for take-out!) because they are operating illegally as a restaurant and could not put a tip on the credit card because they are only set up as a fish-seller.
