Should I Join Costco in CT?

Thanks, all for your input. Bagelman is correct in that I am specifically interested in the CT Costcos. I am disappointed that they don't have the extensive kosher meat/poultry section that one can find in NJ, for example. However, if they do carry Meal Mart deli (for last-minute-kids-coming-home-from college- meals) and shredded cheese, it still might be worthwhile for me. The lack of kosher bakery is somewhat disappointing, but not fatal since I usually serve pareve desserts which I imagine are not available. I have eaten some pareve boxed pastries purchased either in Costco or BJ's which should be really be called "pasties" given the lackluster taste, etc. On the other hand, I have eaten some delicious dairy cakes from BJ's at a shul kiddush, but, based on Bagelman's, knowledgeable critique, I think I'll skip BJ's.

Should I Join Costco in CT?

I am considering joining Costco, but am wondering whether it is worth it. Do any of the Costco stores in the New Haven or Fairfield County areas carry enough kosher stuff to make it worthwhile? What about meat/chicken selection?

Best Passover Shopping?

As I begin to contemplate shopping for Passover, I'd like your input as to where you all think is the best place to go for variety and price in the Monsey/Northern NJ area?

Main Event vs. Mauzone (Celebration) for Bar Mitzvah

I do feel that way about sticking with what I know to be good, but I guess I want to see if it's worth shaking it up a little.

Sure. It will be in our shul. I am looking for a buffet luncheon with maybe a plated first course. Not overdone, with nice presentation and good waitstaff.

Main Event vs. Mauzone (Celebration) for Bar Mitzvah

I am planning a bar mitzvah in the late spring and am in the process of choosing a caterer.

Last go round, we used Main Event and were very happy with them. I am afraid to go with someone else without firsthand experience, so I am turning to you all for your opinions/advice.

We will be having around 150 people at a sit-down kiddush and luncheon after Shabbat morning services (davening). Price does factor in, but is not the final determinant.

Abel Caterer, CT

Thanks for all the info on Abel. I am glad they are now "acceptable" to the stricter crowd thus giving them entree into more venues.

Is "Stanley" the same one who ran the JCC cafe in Bridgeport a number of years ago? I hope not...

I know there were some issues a while back due to the non-kosher side,m but have heard that there is now a local hashgacha. Is this accurate?

Does anyone know anything about this caterer? Quality and presentation, especially.

Hotel Weekend Bar Mitzvah

Can anyone give me information on a ballpark cost (per person) of a weekend bar mitzvah at a hotel in the NY/NJ/CT area.
What is included in the cost? How does one set up for the tefillah? Is it bring your own Torah?
Can you recommend a hotel that you, or someone you know, has used and were happy with?
