Loam [Geelong]

What a fabulous time to check out chowhound!

My mother's birthday is on the 10th and her partner was telling me he wanted to take her to this restaurant that his barber told him about as a surprise, but the barber didn't remember what it was called.

Thanks very much mr gimlet for helping out!

Foods That Destroy the Roof of your Mouth

Most people seem to be mentioning pizza for heat... I always thought it was a texture thing from the crispy base... hmmm. Pizza for dinner tomorrow night to experiment!

Also chuppa chups. Especially if they have an air bubble that makes sharp edges

"Don't Open That Bag!!!".....because I'll eat the whole thing.

I'm not usually one for corn chips, but Mexicana flavoured Doritos are literally impossible to not eat in one sitting. I stopped buying them because I would scarf the whole pack and feel like a tremendous fatty afterwards. The only time I will get them now is if I am having people over.. we still finish the whole bag, but I eat less in the process :)

What do YOU keep at all times in case you want "that snack"?

woops...

Peanut Butter

This. But it has to be Kraft Super Crunchy. Accept no imitations!

Peanut Butter

Wow. This sounds incredible! If only we had easy access to Hershey Kisses in Australia!

Do you have a favorite I'm-alone-now-so-nobody-will-know favorite dish?

Special Toast sounds amazing! All we ever got was regular toast with cinnamon sugar sprinkled over the top, which was delicious, but didn't take it to the next level.

Mine is cauliflower florets (torn apart into the pan, not chopped) fried in some hot olive oil with copious amounts of pepper and a fair amount of salt, some worcestershire sauce and then tossed onto some plain 2 minute noodles with some Kalamata olives (which i usually de-pip by biting a chunk off and then pulling the seed out) . Heaven at it's most lazy!

Brisbane, Australia

Piaf is fantastic. I've been there a few times and they have never disappointed, and you simply cannot beat the prices for quality of food!

(cannot gush enough about my love for Piaf)

Best Meat Pie in Australia?

Unfortunately Yatala do not live up to the childhood memories :(

I still occasionally stop on the way back from the coast just to see if the last... few times... were a fluke, but the sad truth is that they are like supermarket pies these days, but with more salt!

Best Meat Pie in Australia?

This is easily avoided by eating pies using the jess method :)

step 1: remove top of pie from base/filling
step 2: cover the filling with tomato sauce and mix
step 3: eat base of pie with the delicious tomato saucy filling
step 4: eat the flakey pie top upside down with a small amount tomato sauce on top

ok... i need a pie now

(please someone tell me they eat pies like this. it gets odd looks, but it really is the best way!)

oh, and on topic... I've never found a place that does consistently great pies in brisbane. Every time I think I've found THE place something goes wrong. the hunt continues!
