Eggs and Garlic

Isn't it common to rub a spoon with garlic and use that to push eggs around in the pan? I think I read that on this website.

Another Top Chef Finale Spoiler? Seriously??!!

But I wasn't swinging a leg of lamb in the blogosphere. I was just at Chow's front page and the episode was completely spoiled for me. What would be so hard about writing "The Winner of Top Chef Reveals All" or something that didn't mention anyone's name?

Bourdain on CBS Sunday Morning

He was so cute as a kid! He seems so much softer in interviews. I thought they could have gotten a lot juicier though- I've heard better gossip on the boards here! But that's not usually what CBS does.

"Ooh! You Made Bruschetta!"

The correct French pronunciation of crepes rhymes with steps. In America most say "craypes," but that is incorrect, so Flay was right.

tons of flax seed -- what to make?

I don't have the cookie recipe, but here's something I've made quite a few times, if you like tofu (I suppose other poultry might work, though I have no experience with that.) Lightly brush tofu drained tofu cut into thick triangles with a mixture of soy sauce and veggie broth, then dip into a combination of white and black sesame seeds, flaxseeds, and flour as needed. Bake at around 350 for 20 minutes or so.

Best soy milk?

Old post, but as I drink about a gallon of soymilk a day, I thought I'd respond.
I too love the 8th Continent light in vanilla. The chocolate is delicious as well. Soy slender is also really delicious and very light, but it still manages to be creamy. I've grown out of silk because I feel it's kind of watery.

Top Chef Season 2 Rehash

Dave is a waiter? Well I'm sure he's great at it, because he has such a wonderfully addictive personality, but I would love to eat at a homey Dave Martin restaurant.

I agree that Season 2's contestants were too young and immature. Season one had the talent with Harold, Tiffany, Dave and Leanne (sorry if I spelled those wrong!). Now during Season 3 I'm just getting annoyed with the inconsistent judging.

Your favorite dip

How long would this dip (and some others in this thread) keep in a fridge, covered? I was thinking about making a few of these (halving them) and keeping them in a dorm mini-fridge for a few days (I have microwaves/ovens available to reheat, etc.). Bad idea?

Michigan's Fruit Belt

I live about 5 minutes from there... it's really not the fruit extravaganza most make it seem. To get the best cherries and apples at least, you have to drive north a ways.

Top Chef-is anyone else upset about how they are sending home contestants?!?!

I agree. I think they've made some terrible choices. Howie has screwed up every single team challenge and made a thick RIOSOTTO in Miami in April. I would love to see him go home, immediately.

Vegan Desserts for 2

Thanks! Sounds delicious... I came across a video of "healthy chocolate mousse" that's nondairy and uses avocados as the thickener... anyone tried this or had any experiences with avocados replacing egg whites/heavy cream?

Best peanut butter to use for cookies?

Yes, I've been to PB Loco several times and sampled all (yes, all) of the peanut butters as I'm a complete fanatic. They're all delicious, but I especially love the mocha for breakfast items and the asian curry spice for satays (have seen several different spellings for this word..?). Fun store, I definitely recommend stopping by if you're around the area.

Could I modify that recipe to use cocoa powder and maybe confectioner's sugar?

Vegan Desserts for 2

I don't have a WF nearby, though I love them. Chocolate mousse sounds delicious though, and I've heard many say how decadent it is prepared with tofu. Do you know the ingredients in the WF version? I'm looking up recipes online. Thanks!

Thanks for the suggestions! I'm 17 and I'm just learning how to cook, so any advice is really appreciated. Thank you!

Best peanut butter to use for cookies?

I used to make peanut butter cookies ALL the time and I loved Dark Chocolate Peanut Butter I got from a peanut butter store in the Mall of America. You couldn't really taste the chocolate in the cookies but it made them so rich.

Vegan Desserts for 2

Helloo, I'm having somewhat of a "romantic" dinner this Friday with my SO and I'm veganish (making the transition) and he's not. I was thinking of serving a bulgur risotto with some asparagus and any other vegetables I have on hand, something grilled on the side, a big piece of meat for the carnivore, but I'm stuck on dessert. I want something vegan that would satisfy a meat eater, and something low in gluten because it's just coming out that I may be gluten sensitive- that's not too big of an issue, though. Thank!

Need Summer "Fruity Dessert"

My favorite summertime dessert- Frozen Blackberry-Lemon Chiffon Cake. I like to mix it up and use raspberries, strawberries, and lime juice, too.

Teaching a toddler to cook - any suggestions?

Parfaits are fun and easy and aren't really "cooking", but will teach him about food. As would topping his own english muffin pizzas with whatever he likes.

Too much fresh dill

Salmon, sour cream, cucumber, + the fresh dill, and you're set.

Favorite dips and spreads

Black bean dips with garlic, onion and cumin are always flavorful and have a nice thick consistency. I also love hummus, though many don't... if you're a fan, it's always nice to add something like roasted red pepper, olives, capers, or some serious spices, like turmeric or cumin.

Trader Joe's Frozen Edamame

I love their edamame. I boil in salted water. Do you shell first? I'd think microwaving would make the shells super tough.

What to serve with Green Tea Ice Cream?

Or maybe a black/white sesame seed brittle...

What to serve with Green Tea Ice Cream?

I always think honey goes great with green tea. You could toss it with some berries or drizzle some on the blandish cake.
