Lunch half way between Pvd and Hartford?

Any suggestions for a lunchtime meeting place somewhere on or near Rt. 6 in Connecticut? The ideal place will be ~1/2 way between Providence, RI and Hartford, CT although will consider driving a little extra either way for the right place.

Alternatively, we can consider Rt. 44 as a meeting place too. I just find that a little slower driving.

Pane Vino or Camille in Providence

I like Pane E Vino over Camille's. Camille's is more upscale/formal while Pane E Vino is more intimate and relaxed. I love the wine list at Pane E Vino, especially on Monday nights. I've never had a bad food experience at either. Pane E Vino has a very small bar. Camille's bar is bigger.

Al Forno / Bacarro ? [Providence, RI]

In defense of Capital Grille. I've had some really great experiences there. Service is always spot on and my steaks have always been perfect. Of course, it is pricy and it is a chain. But the steaks I've had there have been better than steaks at other pvd steak places.

Best Providence Dinners These Days>>What do you think of My List?

Opinionated, were you attending a function? Maybe the Federal Reserve? What kind of food did they serve? Any more details to help us help you?

Another thought, Capriccio's is down a level and dark.

DINNER MEETING THIS THURSDAY IN PROVIDENCE - help with recommendation

I can't agree with you more Gin n Tonic. I'm constantly on here, but just don't have much new to post. Providence posters have been getting an undeserved bashing lately.

OP, I'm going to suggest Blue Grotto on Atwells Ave. I've had several really enjoyable meals there lately. They have done some lovely renovations that have really opened up the place and updated it. The food was great. I've had leisurely dinners with friends twice in the last month. We took our time and never felt rushed. It is also spacious so you would probably have luck getting a table that is away from other diners if needed or a four top instead of a two top so you have more room to spread out. The downside is that they do not have a parking lot, but they do have valet parking.

birthday dinner for two in providence ten prime, gracies or cafe nuovo

What do you like? What are you looking for? They are different places.

For me personally, of the places you mentioned, I would pick, in this order, Gracie's, Ten, Nuovo.

Gracie's is quieter. Wonderfully prepared food. Can do a lovely private/romatic dinner in the wine cellar room. Main dining room is also nice. I've had some really wonderfully prepared food there.

Ten Prime - This is more of a scene. There is more of a vibe here. We go here to sit at the bar, soak in the scene and have some cocktails. Food is good, not always great. We shared a really well prepared steak here about 8 months ago.

Cafe Nuovo - nice location, especially on a waterfire night. This would be bottom of my list. We had a special date night dinner there and we both were very unimpressed with our food. I had ordered a special that was discribed as a lobster claw and spring vegetable risotto. It was the smallest lobster I've ever seen (think crawfish small). the bits of lobster and vegetable were actually hard to find in the dish. My husband had a steak - it was tough. This was a few years ago. I haven't been back. At that price point and for a special dinner, I haven't been willing to chance it.

If you might want to also consider Chez Pascal. It is well liked on the board. My experiences there have always been very nice and the food great.

Outside of Providence, Persimmon in Bristol is really great. Two of the best meals I've ever had in RI have been here (both chefs tastings).

My dad met my soon to be inlaws at Pane E Vino. We had our rehearsal dinner in that back area. Pane E Vino will probably always be a special place for me. They consistently do a nice job. The Sunday 2 for 1 is a great deal.

Waterplace Restaurant, Providence, RI

Normally, I wouldn't hold a function experience against a place and I certainly don't usually post something after a first experience someplace. I typically give them a few strikes before they get a negative chowhound post or even before I say I'm never going back. These guys managed to accomplish this in the course of 15 minutes as they booted us all out the side door. The fact that the manager was just so abnoxious sealed the deal for Waterplace and any other Pinelli place. Their local chain is off my list. There are just too many good places around to support ones that treat people like crap.

Pane E Vino is doing 2 for 1 entrees on Sunday nights in August. It is a great deal for a great restaurant.

Waterplace Restaurant, Providence, RI

When I posted last night, I didn't have time to write the entire story of our experience. Here it is....

We attended a private function at Waterplace Restaurant. It was an appetizer/cocktail reception. The food was mediocre at best. The chicken skewers were dry and overcooked, the fried calamari was soggy and the passed hot apps were nothing more than prepackaged heat and serve apps. I wasn’t expecting outstanding apps and would not have ever posted anything about the food or the restaurant if it wasn’t for what happened later. Prior to the event, we were told that the space we had would be open to the public after 9:00pm but that we would be welcome to stay. We had no problems with this. This group was using the inside and outside lounge area. Several of us were sitting in the outside lounge area and shortly after 9:00, someone who said he was one of the managers came over to our table, and told us they needed to take the table away. They literally, pulled the table out from under us and as we stood to get out of the way, they grabbed the chairs too. This is not a case of us holding the table and not spending any money. Drink rounds (the drink prices were expensive) were purchased throughout the night and we had every intent of continuing to hang out and spend money there. We objected and expressed our displeasure and the manager said “That’s fine.” Every time we said something or protested our treatment, he would respond with “That’s fine”. That is actually all he said. As it was becoming obvious that we were no longer welcome, we moved inside to say our goodbyes to the rest of the group. Immediately, several bouncers started telling everyone that we needed to leave and pushing us towards the exits. We had to leave the unfinished drinks we had paid for (the event was a cash bar) and were hustled toward the door. We tried to leave through the main entrance, but it was blocked by two other large bouncers who informed us we could not go that way (the bathrooms were also now off limits and behind the bouncers) and that we needed to leave through a side entrance. We were actually tossed out of the place! The large group had been directed to valet park so we all landed on the sidewalk at the same time trying to get our cars so we could leave. My husband and I were lucky and only had about a 20 minute wait for our car since we were near the front of the group. I have no idea how long others had to wait for their car. I’ve never been treated so rudely by any establishment. I can absolutely say that we will never return to this location and based on the treatment would never recommend this place. If the Pinelli Marra Restaurant Group thinks this is the way to treat their customers, I’ll take a pass on all of their restaurants.

Waterplace Restaurant, Providence, RI

Stay away. Just about anyplace in Providence is better. Food is mediocre at best and service is terrible. It is nothing more than a crappy nightclub that only stays alive because of the great location. What are you looking for?

Vintage's (Woonsocket RI) Steak Tartare Recipe?

The original chef, Brian Counihan, went to The Local in West Newton and Isabella's in Dedham. You might be able to get in touch with him through one of the websites or Facebook.

They still serve sushi. They just don't have the sushi bar anymore. I too miss the sushi bar and the sushi chef. The sushi isn't as good as it was before.

Yes, Vintage is still open. the owners are the same people who own The Blue Grotto. Service at the bar is usually pretty good. I think the food at d.carlo is better than Andrew's or Vintage. But the service at Vintage is better than at Andrew's or d.carlo (we sit at the bar).

d.carlo (Smithfield, RI) - anyone else disappointed lately?

After not going there for more than a year, my husband and I stopped in three weeks ago on a Friday night. We sat at the bar and shared some apps for dinner. Everything, including the the service was very good. So much so, that we said we'd need to try and put it on our list of places we try and get to on a more regular basis.
