Food Gifts For Holiday Giving

I'm looking for something unusual to give for Christmas to friends in distant locations. Anyone have any good ideas? Not too expensive; not the "fruitcakes", please!!

Caesar Dressing

Try using "homogenized eggs" in little cartons, if you are afraid of raw eggs.

Dining Around New Orleans [Long]

I can't believe after your very fine reviews that you would even consider putting Crabby Jack's on the list! That is a mere chain restaurant! You would do better to dine at The Gumbo Shop, or Bucktown Seafood in the Quarter, or Mandina's out on Canal (delicious Italian neighborhood restaurant! Crabby Jack's ---- no Way!

Camillia Grill or Old Coffee Pot?

As for the Camellia Grill, it is finally restored. We were there in March. Part of the fun is riding the trolley out to it. The ride is pretty cool and of course, the views of the Garden District are beautiful. Get off at the Carrolton stop, or ask the streetcar driver. Be prepared to pay cash, exact change only, for the trolley. Camellia Grill has very attentive waiters, very fast and visible food prep. The Ruben Sandwich is fantastic, the breakfasts are great! The pie is good and the milkshakes are awesome. Everything is served very quickly, but you may have to wait for a seat. All seating is on stools afixed in front of semicircular bars. Eat up!

Real farmers market in San Antonio?

Hi, santone. Try the one on Saturdays at Millberger's Nursery on 1604 @ O'Conner Rd. It's way in the back of the plants, trees, etc. The produce is outstanding. Last time I went I got fresh dewberries, strawberries, and some great cukes and tomatoes.

I have sent mostly Texas products, since I live here. The best ones are for cakes, cheesecakes and pecan pie for ham, bacon, sausage for chocolate pralines for fruit
All are wonderful with the best selections and variety. I also favor SanSaba pecans and Austin nuts.
