Best in Louisville: Fish market and international/ethnic food market

I'm looking for the best fish market and best place to get serious ethnic/international ingredients. Things like: 10lb bags of rice, fresh and dried peppers, harissa, lavash bread, sausages, Middle Eastern spices, chutneys, etc., etc. Anyone have an idea?
I am specifically looking for Middle Eastern, mediterranean, and Asian ingredients.

Thanks!

Bagels in Nashville

Anyone have bagel suggestions in Nashville? Bagel Face? Star Bagel? Also, I'm from NYC, so I am a little biased and particular about my bagels! Thanks!

Real, Traditional Club Sandwich in LA?

Since my OP, I've been to Swingers many times. It's my favorite so far, even though they use sourdough. Cafe 50s is good too, but it's not a real triple decker.

D'Artagnan products in LA

Coo,, thanks. I did contact them once, several months ago and asked them. The replied that they didn't know who sold their stuff in LA. I found that hard to believe. maybe I'll give it another try.

D'Artagnan products in LA

Does anyone know where to get a decent range of their products in the LA area? I know Surfas has some (but they are frozen and very expensive). I know they mail order as well, but again, it's much cheaper to buy retail.

Thanks!

Real, Traditional Club Sandwich in LA?

I had the Doughboy's today. Good, but 2 strikes against it: the way it's cut (wedges) and the smoked turkey, rather than roasted. Good mayo, though! I'll try Lulu's, but they're gonna have to hold the swiss and replace the aioli with mayo! :-)

Funny about mayo. I too used to HATE it. Thought it was the most disgusting thing ever. Now? Not so much! I'll check out Shutter's, thanks!

WAY too many extemporaneous ingredients: French ham, turkey, smoked bacon, Gruyère, tomato, avocado, hard-boiled egg & watercress.

Real, Traditional Club Sandwich in LA?

Ok, where can I find a real, honest to goodness Club Sandwich in LA? Even the diners seem to alter it. Basically, I am looking for:

Turkey (or chicken, if you must), bacon, tomato, lettuce and mayo on three slices of white toast, cut in quarters, on the diagonal. Extra bonus if they're secured with toothpicks with the colored plastic on the ends.

I don't mind having to ask them to hold the cheese, ham, mustard or avocado, but anything other than triple-decker, white toast is a deal-breaker.

Thanks!

Fish Market, Mid-City, Larchmont, Miracle Mile, Hollywood?

Apologies. I meant the market at the 3rd St. Farmer's Market. I am looking for a place to go on a regular basis when the mood strikes me but it seems from your response and others, that the weekly neighborhood famers' markets seem to be the only real choice.

Fish Market, Mid-City, Larchmont, Miracle Mile, Hollywood?

Can anyone recommend a decent place to get fresh fish in the area bordered by, say:

Santa Monica Blvd to the North, Pico to the South, Larchmont to the East and Crescent Heights to the West?

I know about the markets in Glendale and Pasadena and I know about Santa Monica Seafood and if I am in those names, I can stop there, but is there anyplace in the Mid-City area for every day shopping?

It doesn't have to be amazing, live fish in tanks, super great selection, but I won't buy fish at Ralph's, either and I find some Whole Foods' selection to be poor.

How does the fish market at the Farmer's Market rate among the Chowhound set?

Thanks!

Sorrel in LA

Thanks! It's used in Indian cooking a lot, too. Do you happen to know any Indian markets in LA?

Smoked Bluefish in LA?

I know this is a long shot, but does anyone know where I can find smoked bluefish in LA or even a place that might be able to order it for me? I know it's an East Coast fish but it's an important part of my Thanksgiving tradition and I would love to be able to continue it out here!

Many thanks!

Thanks! DIdn't see them at West LA last week, but I might have gone too late. I noticed some folks had closed up shop. Now, if only I can find smoked bluefish.....

Can anyone point me to where I might be able to get Sorrel in LA? It's not the most common of greens, I know.... I need it for a variation on Oysters Rockefeller!

Thanks!

Mexican Bay Scallops vs. Peconic or Nantucket Bay Scallops

Not entirely ridiculous! The only reason I would eat them raw was when I got them in East Hampton, I knew they'd been swimming only a couple of hours earlier! That's one of the benefits of small town living!

Mexican Bay Scallops vs. Peconic or Nantucket Bay Scallops

Cool, thanks. But do they have that similar, sweet flavor? Would you consider eating them raw? Like I said, I'll probably just pick some up and see. The thing is, I don't like sea scallops. :-)

Mexican Bay Scallops vs. Peconic or Nantucket Bay Scallops

Thanks! The Easy Coast bays freeze very well, actually. Considering these are 1/2 the price of the Peconic bays, it's not gonna kill me to drop $2.50 for 1/4 lb and see what I get, I guess!

Mexican Bay Scallops vs. Peconic or Nantucket Bay Scallops

I'm a recent arrival to LA and have seen things labeled "bay scallops" in Santa Monica Seafood and other places. They say they are from Mexico. Have any other former East Coasters tried these? How do they stack up against the little morsels of brilliance that are the East Coast bays?

Smoked Eel in LA area

Anyone know if it's possible to get smoked eel in and around LA? It's a traditional winter holiday food where I grew up on Eastern Long Island and I would love to introduce my LA friends to it, this year!

angulas or spanish baby eels

I have to contradict an earlier post. Elvers/Angulas are not unborn eels. They are eels that have been born in the Sargasso Sea near Bermuda and have made their way back across the Atlantic to Europe or up the East Coast of the US back to the rivers where their parents came from.
