Question about La Volta in Raleigh

I thought it was really good. My wife didn't like it as much. Give it a try.

Helios Raleigh

My SO and I went to Helios on Glenwood for lunch today. I have to say that it is great. She had the chicken salad sandwhich and I had a Serrano Ham and Manchego cheese sandwhich, and we split the English Pea Ragou. The sandwhiches came with a side salad or chips. We both opted for the salad and it was fantastic. At $7.50 for the sandwhiches and $5 for the ragou it was a bargain. We will be back soon. The old chef from Coquette is the chef there now and the food quality really shows.

Best local Bottled BBQ sauce in NC?

I really like Jim's. They carry it at Kroger and it is fantastic. I think it is much better than Bone Suckin' sauce.

Battistella's New Orleans Kitchen, Raleigh

I am a big fan of Cajun food and I wanted to see if anyone has been here yet. It is located on Glenwood Avenue in an old hotel right by Crabtree.

Raleigh - Glenwood Grill

I think that it has good food for the money. It isn't as good as Bloomsbury, but it is still a good meal. I enjoy their crabcakes and their fish. They also do half portions which is nice.

Possibilities for Valentine's Meal (Triangle, NC)

Try Revolution in Durham. Also, Fearrington is having a special for it's 3 course meal. I think that it is $45 pp. You may want to call to verify.

So which is better? This or Super Wok? I am addicted to the tri pepper chicken at Super Wok. I live in Raleigh and didn't know if it were worth the drive.

Charleston: Magnolias, Blossom or Cypress???

I would go to Magnolia's. It is fantastic. You can get the shrimp and grits at lunch and it is fantastic. I would also go to FIG. That was the best restaurant that we ate at during our last trip to Charleston.

Raleigh: New on Peace St.: Village Kabob

I will have to agree that this place is fantastic. I have had the mantu and the lamb kebobs. Both were wonderful. The lamb was cooked perfectly and the mantu was just a melting pot of flavor. I would rank the lamb up there with some of the best I have had. The owners are super friendly and they want you to be happy. Their stews are also fantastic. The only negative that I have found is that you are eating with paper plates, but that is a very easy thing to get over. I have been 3 times in the last week.

emerald isle, NC recommendations

For good inexpensive food go to Ruddy Duck's in Morehead. It is nothing fancy, but it is great.

Business Dinner - Research Triangle Park

Bin 54 is amazing. By far the best steak I have ever eaten. Order the dry aged beef. Angus Barn is another great place for a business dinner. They are very used to accomodating a large crowd. I know the UNC basketball team eats there frequently before they travel.

Charleston, SC Where to eat?

I just got back from Charleston on Sunday. We ate at Cypress on Friday night. The tuna that my wife had was very good and the lobster bisque that I had as an appetizer was very good as well. I had the shellfish grits and they were cold and didn't have much flavor. We ate at Magnolia's for lunch on Saturday. It was fantastic. It continues to be one of my favorite restaurants. I had the shrimp and grits and my wife had the mahi over succotash. We split the fried green tomatoes for an app. Everything was exceptional. For dinner on Saturday night we went to Fig. That was one of the best meals that I have ever eaten. For appetizers we had gnocchi, cucumber soup, and the heirloom tomato salad. For dinner I had the grouper wrapped in panchetta and my wife had the snapper over corn risotto. It was all amazing. Oh, and we had the molten chocolate cake with mint chocolate ice cream on top...unreal. I would not miss Fig or Magnolia's. You can't go wrong with either one.

Charleston, SC Where to Go?

My wife and I are going to Charleston in a couple of weeks. I have not been in two years and I was wondering what is good. I love Magnolia's, Penninsula Grill, Blossom's for pizza, Basil for Thai. Are those restaurants still good? Also, I have heard that Cypress and Coast are good. Is Carolina's still good? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I know that we will eat at Magnolia's one night so that I can have their Shrimp and Grits.

Sitti-Raleigh, NC- One Person's Review

We love Sitti. I do agree that mezze dishes are better than the entrees. Try Alladian's in North Raleigh as well. It is great.

Who has the best Thai in Raleigh?

I have tried several of your rec's recently. I will have to say that Thai House tops the list. Sawasdee was second and Thai Lanna didn't even compare to the other two. I thought the curry at Thai Lanna was lacking flavor. Thai House's curry was fantastic. I also had the whole flounder with ginger sauce. That is something that you shouldn't pass up.

I still like Lemongrass for their lunch special. Entree, app, and drink for $8.

I second Bella Monica, but make sure you make your reservation several days ahead of time. It is very good Italian food very close to the RBC Center.

Muy Pronto Fonda y Birrieria Jalisco - Raleigh

I stopped by yesterday just to see what the place was like. I had already had lunch so I didn't try the food. I did notice that the prices seemed high. I eat at Los Cuates a lot and I can eat lunch for $4. That is with chips and the full salsa bar. I did notice that they had ceviche and shrimp cocktail. I just returned from Mexico and ate both every day. Has anyone tried either? I will try it, but Fuzzy I am with you in saying that I really miss Las Cascadas.

Triangle Steak Houses

Bin 54 is the best steakhouse that I have ever eaten in. Try the dry aged beef. If you don't want to drive to Chapel Hill, then I would suggest JK's in North Hills. I think that they have one of the best steaks around.

I am sad to say that they closed last week. I ate there two straight days. This place will be missed. The owner has my number and he said he would call if they opened something else.

I love Lemongrass off of Litchford Road in Raleigh. I eat there at least twice a week. They have a great lunch special for $8. It includes a drink, an appetizer, and and an entree. They offer this deal 7 days a week.

Briasas De Acapulco- Raleigh

Try it again. Call them at 821-7642. I would give the Dominican food a try. I went last night and had the pork shoulder. It was the best thing that I have had there yet. It was the most tender pork with seasoning that had sort of a citrus taste to it. It was somothered with onions and peppers. Fantastic. This Saturday night they are having a special menu with many Dominican specialties. The Mexican food is outstanding as well, but I have become addicted to the Dominican food. One other note their sanitation grade is now an A.
