Looking for nachos with shredded lettuce on them.

Gabbys puts shredded lettuce on them. They're not the best, but if lettuce is what you're looking for then they've got it!

The Chickery - Spadina South of Richmond (David Adjey's new casual spot)

Went last week and the place was packed at lunch. Granted they just opened, but in the time I was there I saw about 5 people bringing their orders back because they had received the wrong thing. Had the quarter chicken and left little to be desired. Could have been that they were just too busy to put the time in, but I found it very bland and under seasoned. Also coming in at almost $15 for lunch I won't be back until they work the kinks out.

Saturday brunch at a place near the Yonge subway line, between St.Clair and Union

I've had quite a few things on their brunch menu and they are all fabulous. I am more of a savory than sweet person and would recommend the Eggs Benny, the Huevos Racncheros, and the Easy as Pie - if you're ready to eat for an army. Their breakfast meats are also quite delicious with maple added to them. One of the few places I will actually eat, and enjoy, breakfast sausages.

Not too far is Hair of the Dog. Just a short walk over from College subway.

Where can we get GRILLED WHOLE FISH downtown?

Earth often has whole fish as one of their specials. Perhaps you could give them a shout and see if it would be on that day. It's typically what I get when I go and every time - delish!

Restaurant Wedding in Toronto for 140-160 people

Hi Clo109,

Just wondering how far you got with the Victor. I'm in your shoes as well but have approximately 110 - 120 guests in around the same time and also looking for restaurant suggestions.

Any idea on rental/food/booze costs? Or have the contact there?

Thanks in advance :)

Gluten Free Toronto

There's a great all GF store on Avenue at the 401, across from Bruno's. They bring up a lot of items from the states and offer prepared foods, etc. Great to grab some hard to find things but others, like GF soya sauce, are often cheaper at the supermarket than at the specialty store. GReat owners though and very helpful service.

Gluten Free Toronto

A new one to add is Trimurti on Queen. Having just been diagnosed with celiac I've been making the rough transition and was afraid one of my favourite foods - Indian - would be off the table. Instead, we now joke about moving in upstairs we go so often.

Most servers are extremely well versed in celiac and do not hesitate to bring the cook out to speak with you. They've explained to me that pretty much all of the curries and mains do not use any wheat at all so about 90% of the menu is gluten free to begin with. They have also done an incredible job of accommodating me. When I mentioned that it was too bad the pakoras (chickpea flour) were cooked in the same fryer as the samosas (wheat flour) they fired up some oil on the stove and made me gluten free chicken pakoras so I wouldn't feel left out. To me that is above and beyond! The food is also delicious, and knowing that they are being so careful and accommodating makes it taste even better. Highly recommended.

Was scheduled to open November 15th but now they're saying November 25th. The Maple Leaf Gardens Loblaws is also supposed to open at the same time.

Wedding at the Royal Conservatory of Music

Hi all,

Starting the search on wedding venues and I've come across the RCM. Absolutely love the space, but I'm wondering if anyone has had/been to a wedding here before and could shed some inside light on the venue. Looking for any info on the space, suppliers/food/bar, staff, etc.

Anything would help :) Thanks!

Wedding venue input - Canoe/Park Hyatt/RCM

Can anyone confirm the cost of RCM? There is nothing online, not even on their website, that I can find.

Long weekend in Boston - First timers need help!

This is great, thank you! I'll be sure to post back following the trip.

Long weekend in Boston - First timers need help!

Mainly wine and beer. Could be persuaded into some cocktails if they were worth it :)

Long weekend in Boston - First timers need help!

Thanks for the response! We were looking at Island Creek and will definitely be going there.

In terms of our tastes, we will be doing a lot of walking and exploring downtown and any cute/fun areas recommended. We've narrowed our hotel to around the Waterfront if that helps at all.

Some great lunch places would be great to know of since we will be out and about (destination unknown!) and these can be more difficult to find than dinner.

Long weekend in Boston - First timers need help!

Hi all,

My SO & I will be visiting Boston for the first time over the Columbus long weekend in October and we are looking for help on where to go, what to eat, and what to avoid! We'll have three full nights (Friday - Sunday) for dining and drinking.

We have yet to figure out where we're staying but it will be generally downtown and we're willing to travel. We are coming from Toronto and eat all cuisines, but we're really looking for amazing Boston finds - not necessarily extravagent (but if it's worth it let us know!), as we all know sometimes the best is the hole in the wall down the street!

Any and all suggestions are welcome. Thanks in advance!

Rodney's Oyster Fest

Is anyone heading down to Rodney's Oyster Fest today? $30 gets you two beers and 6 oysters. I believe the rest are buck a shuck. Has anyone been before? Worth it?

New restaurant in old Ivory Thailand space

Just passed by this morning and the old Ivory Thailand has been renovated with a new sign up and menu board outside. Didn't catch the correct name but I believe it was French. Anyone know anything about it?

I would rather eat the bowling shoes!!!!! [The Ballroom]

Has anyone been recently? Have the food and/or service improved? A friend wants to have their BDay party here and I am trying to suggest elsewhere.

City Grill at the Eaton Centre is (finally) being replaced by Mercatto.

WOO HOOO!!!!! FINALLY!

City Grill at the Eaton Centre is (finally) being replaced by Mercatto.

Looks like they will be open any day now, just waiting on final approval on their liquor license. The gentleman I spoke to said probably by the end of the week. This location will be under a different name, Mercatto Tratoria and has a much larger menu as displayed on their new site.

Looking forward to it!

Lunch/Brunch suggestions (dining solo) at Yonge/Lawrence?

SOHO Bistro at the corner of Yonge & Woburn does a pretty decent brunch. An easy place to go on your own.

"The One That Got Away" fish'n'chips...any thoughts?

I have personally never tried it, however this come out in BlogTO today and "The One That Got Away" is number 2:

Mission Impossible? Great Celiac Food In GTA?

Oh, and just as an FYI - both Milestone's and Jack Astors have separate gluten free menus if you ever find yourself at one of their chains.

Also, Villa Restaurant in the west end has gluten free pizza and pasta and Parmigiano at Yonge and Lawrence has gluten free pasta as well.

These days restaurants are extremely accommodating to celiac and will make anything to order based around your restrictions. It's incredible how far it's come from about 10 years ago. Just make sure there is no flour used to thicken sauces (you wouldn't believe how many times that comes up) and also no soya sauce used in the dish :)

Tons! Here's a link to get you started: http://www.blogto.com/toronto/the_best_wheat_and_gluten_free_restaurants_in_toronto/

My vote goes to Big Momma's Boy and Riz - two fantastic little restos with great service who really understand that gluten free does not need to be flavourless.
